【答案】范文
Nearing the doorway, Jenny took a deep breath. When she pushed the door open and entered the house, she found her mother was not in. Tired and sad, she sunk down into the sofa. “Where could my mother be ” she wondered. “Was she still angry with me ” Again, the scene of the quarrel appeared in her mind. She remembered her rudeness to her mother. Realizing that all the scolding from her mother was due to the fact that her mother really cared a lot about her, she felt rather ashamed, tears rolling down her cheeks.
At that time, her mother came back and touched her hair gently, which called her mind back. She raised her head and saw the familiar face of her mother. “Here you come! I’ve been looking for you,” she said, fatigued but relieved. Jenny couldn’t help throwing herself into her mother’ arms. “Mum, I’m so sorry and thank you for all you have done for me.” she expressed her sincere apology and great gratitude. Hearing this, her mother smiled, patting her back gently. It dawned on Jenny that Mum’s love was invisible and intangible, but always surrounded us.

A young man was getting ready to graduate from college. For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer’s showroom, and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted.
As Graduation Day approached, the young man waited for signs that his father had bought the car. Finally, on the morning of his graduation, his father called him into his study. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him. He handed his son a beautifully wrapped gift box. Curious, but somewhat disappointed, the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible, with the young man's name embossed(饰以浮饰) in gold. Angrily, he raised his voice to his father and said, “With all your money you give me a Bible ” He then stormed out of the house, leaving the Bible there.
Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business. He had a beautiful home and a wonderful family, but realizing his father was very old, he thought perhaps he should go to see him. He had not seen him since that graduation day. Before he could make the arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and willed (遗赠) all of his possessions to his son. He needed to come home immediately and take care of things.
When he arrived at his father's house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart. He began to search through his father's important papers and saw the still new Bible, just as he had left it years ago.
With tears he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. As he was reading, a car key dropped from the back of the Bible. It had a tag with the dealer's name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation, and the words…“PAID IN FULL”.

People speak English in different parts of the world. The same words can be used in different ways, depending on where you live. People can also have completely different ways of saying the same thing.
The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) is asking the public to help it add new words. Editors want to find the regional (地区的) differences in English around the world. They want to increase its record of the language.
Last year, the OED, BBC Radio and the Forward Arts Foundation teamed up to find local words in the United Kingdom. It resulted in more than 100 regional words and phrases being added to the dictionary. One was “cuddy wifter”, which means “a left-handed person”.
Now, the OED is widening its search to English speakers around the world. Eleanor Maier, an editor at OED, said the reaction has been great. Editors are listing a number of suggestions to include in the dictionary. These include Hawaii’s “hammajang”, which means “in a disorderly state”. Another is the word for a swimsuit, “dookers” or “duckers”. It is used in Scotland.
The OED also might include the word “frog-drowner”, which Americans might use to describe a downpour of rain. Another possibility is “brick”. It means “very cold” used by people in New Jersey and New York City.
The dictionary has already found that, depending on location, a picture hanging off center might be described as “agley”. It might also be called “catawampous” or “ahoo”.
“The OED aims to cover all types of English,” Maier said. That includes scientific words, slang and regional language. Maier also said that it can be difficult for the OED’s editors to identify (确认)regional words. Because the terms are more often spoken than written down.
The project is called Words Where You Are. It is looking for more suggestions. “We were surprised and pleased by the number of regional words we were able to include,” said Maier.
8. Which of the following word has been added to OED
A. Agley. B. Frog-drowner. C. Cuddy wifter. D. Catawampous.
9. “Ice-cold” is closest in meaning to “________”.
A. brick B. dookers C. hammajang D. ahoo
10. What can be inferred (推断) from the passage
A. More than 100 countries take part in the project.
B. The OED’s editors are dissatisfied with last year’s revision.
C. It is challenging to recognize the written form of some regional words.
D. It is necessary for English learners to have an Oxford English Dictionary.
11. What is the main idea of the passage
A. It’s time to find the source of local words.
B. The OED aims to collect new words from locals.
C. The same English words can be used to say different things.
D. The OED will include more regional words from around the globe.

Playing outside can do good to children in many ways. As little as 10 or 15 minutes can support physical and mental (精神的) development.
Generally speaking, children should aim to do 60 minutes of exercise per day. This could be running, climbing, skipping, jumping or kicking a ball at the park. Exercise helps children to stay fit and keep a healthy weight. It strengthens muscles and develops their balance. Exercise is also good for mental health. It gives off endorphins in their brains, which can make them feel happier.
Studies have shown that playing outside can develop children’s motor skills: Gross motor skills are our ability to make large movements with our arms or legs. There are lots of ways to develop gross motor skills outside. For example, running around, walking on the roads which are not smooth or climbing hills. Fine motor skills are our ability to make smaller movements often with our hands. Children can develop these skills by picking up small objects.
While playing outside, children can also build their vocabulary by naming the objects or animals they see around them. Ask your child to describe the view or find shapes in the clouds. Some children may find they’re happier to talk outside. With fewer people around watching or overhearing them, they can be more adventurous with their language.
Moving through new and different places can improve children’s spatial awareness (空间意识). Playing outside often means children have to use their imagination and communication skills. They are likely to have fewer toys outdoors and so have to create their own games. This can increase how much children talk to each other.
So you should think about chances in your daily life for children to spend time outdoors. Explore your local area. Or set up some activities or a family sports day.
12. What does the second paragraph mainly focus on
A. Time needed to do sports. B. Proper places for exercise.
C. Sports suitable for children. D. Advantages of doing exercise.
13. Which of the following is fine motor skill
A. Taking weightlifting exercise. B. Picking up stones on the beach.
C. Walking on the roads with care. D. Playing tennis on the playground.
14. Why do some children feel happy to talk outside
A Because they have less stress from study. B. Because they like to take more adventures.
C. Because they feel less watched or overheard. D. Because they love animals living in the wild.
15. Who is the text mainly written for
A. Parents. B. Children. C. Teachers. D. Researchers.

Jenny was the only child in her family. She had a quarrel (吵架) with her mother that afternoon and she ran out of the house angrily. She couldn’t help weeping sorrowfully when she thought of the scolding from her mother. Having wandered aimlessly in the street for hours, she felt a little hungry and wished for something to eat. She stood beside a stand (货摊) for a while, watching the middle-aged seller busy doing his business. However, with no money in hand, she gave a sigh and had to leave.
The seller behind the stand noticed the young girl and asked, “Hey, girl, you want to have the noodles ”
“Oh, yes, but I don’t have money on me.” she replied.
“That’s nothing. I’ll treat you today,” said the man, “Come in.”
The seller brought her a bowl of noodles, whose smell was so attractive. As she was eating, Jenny cried silently.
“What is it ” asked the man kindly.
“Nothing. Actually, I was just touched by your kindness!” said Jenny as she wiped her tears. “Even a stranger on the street will give me a bowl of noodles, while my mother drove me out of the house. She showed no care for me. She is so merciless compared to a stranger!”
Hearing the words, the seller smiled, “Girl, do you really think so I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you thanked me a lot. But it is your mother who has raised you since you were a baby. Can you remember the times she cooked for you Have you expressed your gratitude to her ”
Jenny sat there, speechless and numb with shock: she remembered her mother’s familiar face and weathered hands. “Why didn’t I think of that A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel grateful. Why haven’t I thanked my mum for what she has done for me ”
On the way home. Jenny made up her mind to make an apology to her mother for her rudeness as soon as she arrived home.
