Teaching Procedures Step 1: Warming-up (5 minutes) 1. Greet the students and have a free talk with them. Ask some questions like: How are you today What did you do yesterday 2. Show a picture of a big family on the screen and ask the students: What can you see in the picture Do you have a big family Step 2: Presentation (5 minutes) 1. Present the new words: family, father, mother, sister, brother, grandfather, grandmother, parent, grandparent, doctor, teacher, cook, plant, flower, everything, need, beside Use pictures and gestures to explain the meanings of the words. Have the students repeat the words after the teacher. Play a word game to help the students remember the words. For example, show the pictures of the words quickly and ask the students to say the words as fast as possible. 2. Present the sentence structures: This is my...; What does he/she do ; He/She is a...; He/She likes to... Use the pictures of family members and their occupations and hobbies to make sentences. For example, This is my father. He is a teacher. He likes to read books. Have the students imitate the sentences and make their own sentences about their family members. Step 3: Listening Practice (10 minutes) 1. Play the audio of the conversation between Li Ming and Wang Mei for the first time. Ask the students to listen carefully and answer the following questions: What do Li Ming's parents do What do Li Ming’s grandparents like to do How old is Li Ming's sister 2. Play the audio again and have the students fill in the blanks in the passage. This is Li Ming's family photo. Li Ming's father is ______. He is a teacher. Li Ming talks to him about ____. This _____ is Li Ming's mother. She is a __. She is always to help people in need. Li Ming's grandpa likes to ___ and his grandma likes to flowers. Li Ming's sister is eight years old. She likes to sing and. 3. Check the answers with the students. Step 4: Reading and Checking (5 minutes) 1. Have the students read the conversation aloud in pairs. 2. Ask some pairs to act out the conversation in front of the class. Step 5: Listening and Judging (5 minutes) 1. Play the audio of the dialogue between Jenny and Danny. Ask the students to listen and judge whether the statements are true (T) or false (F). Jenny's uncle is a businessman. ( ) Jenny's uncle is twenty-two years old. ( ) Jenny's uncle likes to travel. ( ) 2. Check the answers with the students. Step 6: Pair Work (10 minutes) 1. Have the students bring a photo of their family.
