As we all know, climate (气候) change has greatly influenced the birds’ living environment. Take Poyang Lake as an example. As an important habitat (栖息地) for the seriously endangered birds, Poyang Lake has experienced usual rises and falls in recent years.
“In some years, the lake experiences floods (洪水), while in others it experiences a shortage of rain. Both of these situations lead to less food in the birds’ habitat.” Qian Fawen, a leader from the National Bird Center of China told China Daily.
To solve such habitat problems, China has named 1, 140 places these years as important living and wintering places in wetlands (湿地). To protect China’s wetlands, a law was also made in 2022 to control human activities. According to the law, people can’t overuse the wetlands. What’s more, they can’t pour (倒) waste water into the wetlands.
Since these methods have worked well, more birds have been seen wintering in the nation’s wetlands. In February, Hunan Province reported that 72 kinds of waterbirds had spent the past winter at Dongting Lake, and that the number of one endangered kind of birds had increased from300 in the 1980s to more than 5, 000 at present. Can dogs tell the time with their noses According to a recent study, it may be true. Dogs have been known to pick up smells that humans can’t, but they may also be able to tell the time by using their noses.
“As each day has a new smell, your dog can notice these changes,” explains a dog expert and university teacher, Professor Alexandra Horowitz. The dog expert talks about the idea in her new-book Being a Dog: Following the Dog into a World of Smell.
Most humans usually experience the world with their eyes. For dogs: their world is based on smells. Dogs are often trained to search for drugs, explosives, and dead bodies with their noses.
The dog expert believes that dogs can notice very small changes in smells during the day, giving them a feeling to judge (判断) the time. “Smells in a room change as the day goes on. Hot air rises, and it usually rises along the walls and will rise to the ceiling and go to the center of the room and drop,” Alexandra explains, “The dog, I think, can smell time through the movement of the air in the room,” she adds.
This could explain why a dog can tell when its owner is expected to return home. If a smart dog is able to notice the changes in its owner’s home after he or she leaves the house, it may be able to predict when its owner is expected to come back.
31.Alexandra Horowitz is all of the following EXCEPT ______.
A.an expert B.a writer C.a pet doctor D.a college teacher

C.Dog owners should pay more attention to their dogs.
D.Dogs notice the passing of time by jumping up and down in the room.
33.What does the writer want to tell the readers
A.Dogs can help the police. B.Dogs can smell almost anything.
C.Dogs can help you find everything you lost. D.Dogs can tell time with their noses.

Seahorses are small, thin fish. Even though they’re fish, seahorses aren’t great swimmers. Instead, they often use their tails (尾巴) to hold onto something in the water.
There are over forty different kinds of seahorses. Many kinds of them are in danger because of the actions of humans. Sometimes people catch and sell them as pets. They are also sometimes caught by accident when boats are trying to catch other fish.
Seahorses are unusual because they are the fathers who carry the babies. Fathers can carryover 100 babies at a time. When babies are born, they are about the size of a grain of rice.
Last year, around 380 seahorses were set free into the wild. To begin the project, scientists collected three “pregnant (怀孕的)” father seahorses and brought them to the aquarium (水族馆). After the babies were born, the scientists kept them at the aquarium for five months, looking after them. About a month before the young seahorses were set free, the scientists created eight underwater “hotels” to provide a safe place for them to develop. Putting the hotels into the sea ealy allowed the hotels to be covered with small sea life that can help provide food for the seahorses.
This is the fifth time the scientists have set free seahorses into the area. Brett Fenton, a scientist of this project, said, “We have high expectations (期待) that we’ll see the number of the animals grow.”
34.What makes many kinds of seahorses in danger
A.Humans’ actions. B.Weather changes.
C.Food problems. D.Unknown diseases.
35.According to the text, father seahorses take the responsibility to ________.
A.look for food B.carry the babies
C.protect homes D.fight with others
36.Why did the scientists create eight “hotels” for the young seahorses
A.To help them live safely underwater.
B.To stop them from swimming away.
C.To train them to rely on themselves.
D.To see if they could live on their own.
37.What can we know from the last paragraph
A.There would be more other projects for seahorses.
B.Scientists saved seahorses in other areas five times.
C.The project might be a success for saving seahorses.
D.The number of baby seahorses hasn’t increased a lot.
