Today, with the development of society, people all over the world have the same hobbies. That is to say, we are not very different in some ways. However, cultures are still quite different. In the East and in the West, social rules are not the same.
In the East, it takes a long time to become someone’s friend. However, when people become friends, they will know each other very well and share almost everything in their lives. When people from the West meet you, they will call you a friend right away. That doesn’t mean they are close to you. When people from the East meet you, they want to know about your age, your salary (薪水) and whether you have been married or not. For people from the West, these are impolite questions. They think such kinds of questions violate their privacy (隐私).
Family is important to everyone. In the East, kids live with their parents for a long time. They still listen to their parents after they grow up. However, in the West, independence is very important. After the kids grow up, they leave home and don't need to listen to their parents' advice any more.
In the East and in the West, people think differently, too. People in the West think about small details. They also think less and act more. But in the East, people pay attention to relationships between things, and they often keep their opinions quiet.

Psychologists (心理学家) at the UK's University of Edinburgh did the study on a group of Scottish people. 22 The findings are published in a daily called Psychology and Aging.
The research is based on a study that began in 1950. 23 They tested six basic personality traits (特征): self-confidence, responsibility, patience, desire to success, creativity and moods.
In 2012, researchers successfully found 174 of the 1, 200 students, who were 77 years old on average at the time. They agreed to take a personality test similar to the one they had completed 63 years earlier.
Researchers then compared the then and now test results. 24 Moods and responsibility had changed less. But there were still not too many similarities between the two results.
The younger and older self seemed to be totally different for each person. "It was as if the second tests had been given to different people, " the study's authors noted.
25 William James, the father of American psychology, said that personality is "set like plaster (石膏板)". This new study may bring some fresh ideas to the theory.

I’m Adam and I live in California. I think the best movie theater in California is the ArcLight, because it has the best environment and service. It opened on March 22, 2002.
I still remember the first time I went there. The building was tall and beautiful. After I got in, I saw some workers walking on the floor to show the way to people. And it was very quiet. The workers there were friendly and helpful.
The screen was big and the seats were soft. I found my row easily. Before the movie started, people talked a lot. But when it started, they were all quiet. People couldn’t come into the room after the movie was on for 15 minutes. Of course this could be a little annoying (使人气恼的) for some of those late birds, but no one liked to be disturbed (被打扰) by late arrivals. I enjoyed the wonderful sound of the movie a lot.
