二、阅读下面短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
Once there was a boy who loved sweets very much.He always asked his father
for sweets.
The father thought hard about how to stop his son from asking for so many
sweets. The father made up his mind to take his son to a great man living nearby. He
might be able to have the boy give up sweets.
So the father visited the great man with his son.The father asked the great man
for help. But the great man liked sweets himself. He told the father to bring his son
back after a month.
During the month, the great man succeeded in giving up sweets. When the
father and his son returned after a month, the great man had a talk with the
boy. From then on,the boy did not ask for sweets anymore.
The father asked in surprise,“Why didn’t you ask my son to give up sweets
when we came to you a month ago?” The man answered,“How could I ask a
boy to give up sweets when I loved sweets myself? And last month I gave up eating
sweets.”
A person’s example is always stronger than words. We should not ask others to
do what we can’t do ourselves.
1. Whom did the boy always ask for sweets?

2. Why did the father visit the great man with his son?

3. Did the boy give up sweets successfully?

4. How long did it take the great man to give up sweets?

Because the father wanted the great man to have his son give up sweets.
Yes./Yes,he did.
A month./It took the great man a month to give up sweets.
5. What can we learn from the passage?

We should not ask others to do what we can’t do ourselves./Actions speak
louder than words./…(言之有理即可)
