Summarize how to write a news report about an accident, especially what information should be mentioned. (Applying) 3. Write a news report about a given accident by using the target language of this module with the help of the checklist. (Creating)

Write a news report about a given accident by using the target language of this module with the help of the checklist. (Creating)
教学过程
Activity 1 Brainstorm Students think about what accidents may happen in daily life. e.g. traffic accidents, sports accidents, bitten by animals, etc. 【设计意图】This activity is aimed to activate what students have learnt in unit 1 and unit 2, and lead them into the topic naturally. Activity 2 Look and say Students see a photo of an accident and say what they see in the photo. (a plane and many people on the river) And students see another photo and understand the new words “pilot”, “crew”, “passenger” with the help of the image. 【设计意图】This activity is aimed to arouse students’ interest in this accident. Activity 3 Read and answer Students read the news report in Around the world and answer four questions. 1. When and where did the accident happen (It happened only three minutes after the plane took off in New York.) 2. Why did the accident happen (The plane was hit by a large number of birds.) 3. How did the plane avoid a terrible disaster (The pilot made a quick decision. He and the crew kept calm and he carefully made an emergency landing on the Hudson River. ) 4. What happened after the accident (All the passengers left the plane safely.) Then students guess the meaning of “emergency”. They can choose from the given options. a. sudden, serious and dangerous b. slow, usual and safe 【设计意图】This activity is aimed to help students get the specific information about this accident and guess the meaning of the new word from the context. Activity 4 Read and think Students read the news report again and answer two questions. 1. What do you think of the pilot Why (I think he is brave/kind/clever/experienced/responsible…He stayed calm and made a quick decision. He saved all the passengers.) 2. Did the writer talk about his feelings or opinions (No, he didn’t.) After answering the second question, students will be asked to think about why the writer didn’t talk about his feelings or opinions. (A news report about an accident usually tells the facts and the truth.) 【设计意图】This activity is aimed to help students think critically and get the idea what to mention and not to mention when writing an accident news report, which helps them gain the awareness of being objective when writing news reports in the future if they get the chance. Activity 5 Listen and complete Students listen to a conversation and complete the accident report in Exercise 6. (Accident report The accident happened to a (1) lucky cat at about four o’clock yesterday afternoon. When the accident happened, Alice was (2) reading a book in the sitting room. She heard a strange (3) sound from the next room. He was looking into the fish bowl and trying to get a (4) fish from the bowl. The bowl fell on Pete. Alice picked him up and took him to the (5) bathroom and dried him. 【设计意图】This activity is aimed to help students get the specific information about this accident. Activity 6 Read and think Students read the accident report and think about the question. What information should an accident report tell (1.Who was in the accident /2.When and where did the accident happen /3.How did the accident happen /4. Why did the accident happen / 5. What happened after the accident ) 【设计意图】This activity is aimed to help students find out what information they should mention when they write an accident news report. Activity 7 Summarize Students summarize how to write a news report about an accident. They will summarize from two aspects, what information should be mentioned and what they should pay attention to. (an accident news report(what information): who/what/where/when/why/how; pay attention to: 1. use simple past and past continuous (when/while) 2. use third person perspective 3. tell the facts and the truth) 【设计意图】This activity is aimed to help students fully understand how to write an accident news report and lay a good foundation for applying what they have found out in the next activity. Activity 8 Watch and write Students watch a short video clip and write a news report of it based on the checklist. After they write it, students will read and appreciate a sample writing and give stars to this sample according to the checklist. (Sample: Yesterday afternoon, an accident happened in the middle of the road. When a white car suddenly stopped in the middle of the road, a black car hit it. And then, a man on a scooter passed. He was very curious about the accident, so he slowed down and looked back. Unluckily, another black car hit the man while he was still looking at the two cars. Later, the policeman came and the man went to the hospital because he got hurt.) 【设计意图】This activity is aimed to help students apply and integrate what they have learnt in this lesson and create a writing. And by giving stars to the sample writing, they will fully understand how to use the checklist to rate their own writing. Homework Must do: 1. Finish your news report 2.
