Why do we use figures of speech in writing
运用修辞手法,为续写添色加彩
在读后续写实践中,适当运用一些修辞手法,可以化平淡为新奇,化呆板为鲜活,化枯燥为生动,化冗繁为洗练,激发联想,唤起美感,增强表现力、说服力和感染力,做到语言形式与表现内容完美和谐的统一。
Major figures of speech:
Personification: a figure that endows(赋予) objects, animals, ideas, or abstractions with human form, character or sensibility.
Simile: a comparison of two different things through the use of the connecting words “like,as...as,as if/though...”.
Metaphor: The comparison of one thing to another that does not use the terms “like or as”.
Hyperbole: the use of exaggerated terms of the purpose of emphasis or heightened effect.

【小结】:
主语是表示事物、情感或心理活动的抽象名词,这类名词有breeze, fog, time, place;fear,excitement,joy, thought等。与之对应的动词有:kiss, desert, blanket(覆盖), witness/see,seize(侵袭,突然控制), choke(使哽咽),flood(使大受感动,充满),creep(不知不觉地产生), grip(紧抓),give way to(被…代替), make sb ..., fill sb with等词。
无灵主语句=无灵主语+有灵动词

My unforgettable experience
When I was six or seven yeas old, I played so hard that I didn’t take a nap even at noon.One hot summer day at noon, I went out to play with my friend. On my way to her house, suddenly, I saw something terrible like a ball which was black and white, neither human nor animal. But it could jump up and down.I thought it must be a ghost(鬼). My eyes wide open and legs feeling weak,① I didn’t dare to move , covering my eyes with my hands. When I took a second look, it disappeared. With my heart pounding and my palms sweating, I couldn’t help crying. Eventually, I went home, ②crying.
