Trying to figure out if your friend is angry You may look at his or her face. However, a new study finds when people are at the peak1 of joy or despair, their body language is a more reliable indicator of their emotions than their face.
“You can t tell from the face alone if something good is going on or bad going on. When people see the faces alone, they re kind of lost,” said Julliel Hievet, a psychologist2 at the Hebrew University. “The body maintains a clear signal of positive and negative.”
Hievet also noted that most researches on reading emotions focused on the face. A few studies had shown people rely on body language to read emotions when it conflicts with someone s facial expression, but those studies used trained actors in poses.
His research team wanted to see how people use body language to read intense3 emotions. To do so, his team gathered dozens of images of top tennis players at the moment they won or lost critical points in competitions like the U.S. Open. They showed three groups of 15 participants images of just the face, just the body, or both together, and asked the viewers whether the images showed positive or negative emotions.
People who saw the body—with or without the face—accurately distinguished whether the player was happy or distraught. Those who viewed just the faces failed to do so.
The team also transformed4 winning faces onto losing bodies and vice versa5, and found the body cues determined whether viewers thought the players had won.
The findings don t rule out the face from all emotional indicators, he said. “But when things become very intense, the good and the bad combine together, and it s hard to tell if it s positive or negative,” he added.
Interestingly, when people saw a body and face together, they said they made judgments based on facial expression. “People use information from the body and then they read it into the face,” Hievet said.

A team of Israeli scientists "printed" a heart with a patient's own cells(细胞) first in the world, researchers say.
Past researchers had been able to print simple tissues(生物组织) without blood vessels(血管), the team said. The new development is the first time "anyone anywhere has successfully engineered and printed an entire heart filled with cells, blood vessels and so on," Tal Dvir of Tel Aviv University told The Jerusalem Post.
Dvir and his team reported the findings Monday in Advanced Science. The heart, about the size of a rabbit's, is too small for a human, but the process used to create it shows the potential for one day being able to 3D-print pieces and maybe full transplants(移植), the team said. Because the heart is made from the patient's own biological material, it reduces the chance that the transplant would fail, according to the research paper. The team used fatty tissues, then separated and "reprogrammed" the materials. The cells that become heart cells were then created.
The development is being praised as a "major breakthrough" in medicine and one that could help battle heart disease, the leading cause of death in the United States, according to the U. S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. "Patients will no longer have to wait for transplants or take medicines to prevent their side effects," Tel Aviv University said in a statement. "Instead, the needed hearts, lungs etc. will be printed, fully personalized for every patient." The research is still a long way off from clearing the way to transplant the 3D-printed hearts into humans, the team says.
Dvir told the news organization Bloomberg that the heart the team printed will need another month before cells develop full to beat. Tests on animals would need to be done before the technology could be tried in humans, he added. It would take a whole day and billions, rather than millions, of cells to print a human heart, Dvir told Bloomberg.
But Dvir remains hopeful. "Maybe, in 10 years, such printers will be seen and used in the finest hospitals around the world," he told The Times of Israel.
28.Why is the heart transplant less likely to fail
A. Because the number of heart donators has been increasing.
B. Because the transplant technology has been improved.
C. Because the heart is created with the receiver's own cells.
D. Because every hospital has easy access to such printers.
29.What can we infer about the 3D-printed heart
A. This heart can be transplanted into humans immediately.
B. This heart has been printed just for rabbits due to the size.
C. It made heart transplant much less difficult than before.
D. The new technology hasn't gained much praise in medicine.
30.Dvir's attitude towards the future of the technology is ______.
A. positive B. worried C. doubtful D. unclear
31.What is the text mainly concerned with
A. The personalized heart transplant.
B. Heart 3D-printed using human cells.
C. A scientist discovering a new technology.
D. Heart disease, the leading cause of death.

The International Space Station (ISS) was just three small rooms when the first crew moved in. The crew members soon discovered there was hardly any space for them to move around. The air was warm and humid, making them feel sticky (感到热得难受的).
Twenty years later, the space station is almost as large as a football field and has three modern laboratories. The station has enough solar power equipment to fill almost four-tenths of a hectare, and enough electrical wiring to stretch 13 kilometers.
The first crew-American Bill Shepherd and Russians Sergei Krikalev and Yuri Gidzenko - left Earth on October 31, 2000. About 48 hours later, they opened the doors to the space station, holding hands in a sign of unity.
The three-man crew spent most of their time trying to get the equipment to work; heat from some of the devices made the living space too warm. Installing (安装) machines and making repairs took hours, compared to minutes on the ground, Krikalev remembered. "Each day seemed to have its own set of challenges," Shepherd said.
The space station did not come close to hitting any space objects during their nearly five months up there, Shepherd said, and the station has held up relatively well. Today NASA's top concern is the growing threat from space junk. This year, the space station has had to avoid objects three times. NASA and its partners say the space station easily has several years of usefulness left. Russia's Mir station operated for 15 years in the late 1980s and 1990s. America's 1970s Skylab spent much less time in space.
Shepherd said that the past 20 years of international experience and cooperation can help with enormous projects, like possibly sending humans to the planet Mars. "If you look at the space station program today, it's a blueprint on how to do it," Shepherd said.
32.Which of the following can best describe the ISS twenty years ago
A. Small but highly used. B. Large but impractical.
C. Wet and a little cold. D. Crowded and uncomfortable.
33.What did the first crew mainly do at the ISS
A. They operated the devices. B. They cleaned space junk.
C. They enlarged the space. D. They repaired the equipment.
34.What does NASA worry most about the ISS today
A. There being more equipment failure.
B. There being doubts about its usefulness.
C. The risk of being struck by other objects.
D. The changes of the orbit three times a year.
35.What can be the best title for the text
A. The contribution of the ISS
B. The development of the ISS
C. The problems troubling the ISS
D. The uncertain future awaiting the ISS

第二节(满分25分)
67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
A tornado(龙卷风) hit a small town nearby, leaving many families completely destroyed. Afterward all the local newspapers carried many human interest stories featuring some of the families who suffered the most difficult period to appeal to people's attention and assistance.
One Sunday, a particular picture especially touched me. A young woman stood in front of a simple mobile home, with a depressed expression on her face. A young boy, seven or eight years old, stood at her side, eyes downcast. Hiding behind her skirt was a tiny girl who stared into the camera, wide eyes with confusion and fear. The article that went with the picture gave the clothing size of each family member. With growing interest, I noticed that sizes of the family closely matched ours. This would be a good opportunity to teach my seven-year-old twins, Brad and Brett, and three-year-old Meghan to help those less fortunate than themselves.
"We have so much. And these poor people now have nothing," I said. "We'll share what we have with them." I brought three large boxes down from the room upstairs and placed them on the living room floor. Meghan watched seriously, as the boys and I filled one of the boxes with canned goods and food. While I sorted through our clothes, I encouraged the boys to go through their toys and donate some of their less favorite things. The boys were pleased to join. Brad rose and went to his room fast. He came back bringing his action figures that he played with not so frequently. Brett also jumped up and ran to fetch some of his Matchbox cars and airplane models. Meghan watched quietly as the boys piled up abandoned toys.
The boys placed the objects they had chosen to donate into one of the boxes while I filled the third box with clothes. Meghan walked up with Lucy, her worn, faded, best-loved rag doll hugged tightly to her chest. "I'll help you find something for the little girl, too," I said to little Meghan.
Paragraph 1:
"Mommy, I will give Lucy to them," Meghan turned to me.
Paragraph 2:
Recognizing what little Meghan's gesture meant, I removed my old jacket from the box of clothes.

66.Dear Wang Qiang,
①I m sorry to know that you become addicted to computer games recently. I feel quite worried about you. ②Now I m writing to offer you some advice, hoping you can get rid of this bad habit soon.
As far as I m concerned, it is no good addicting yourself in computer games since spending too much time online does harm to your health and makes it very difficult to focus on schoolwork. Therefore, I d like to recommend that you take up a new hobby such as running or playing football. ⑤Besides, it might be a good idea if you join a school club, where you can take part in all kinds of activities and make new friends. In this way, you will be attracted to your wonderful school life instead of getting lost in a virtual world.
I hope you will take my suggestions into consideration. Looking forward to your good news.
Yours,
Li Hua
67.Mommy, I will give Lucy to them," Meghan turned to me. "Oh, honey," I said. "You don't have to give Lucy. You love her so much." Meghan nodded seriously, eyes glistening with tears. "Lucy makes me happy, Mommy. Maybe she'll make that little girl happy, too." She paused in front of the box that held the toys, pressed her round little face into Lucy's flat face, gave her a final kiss, then laid her gently on top of the other toys. The boys watched, open-mouthed, as their baby sister placed her favorite doll in the box.
Recognizing what little Meghan's gesture meant, I removed my old jacket from the box of clothes. I replaced it with the new green jacket that I bought last week. I believed the young woman in the picture would like it as much as I did. The boys were inspired by our behavior and offered their beloved things to the family. We all wished the family could pass the difficult period as soon as possible and that they would love the things we gave them with all our heart.
