Secondly, here you will learn practical skills that you can use all your life while some other students still struggle with the subjects they are not good at during the three long years at high school. Why Because they didn’t choose the school that suits them. And finally, when others are still wondering where to go. You are able to live on your own. And perhaps it won’t be long before you are on the way to success.
People take different roads because they have different potentials(潜力). So different students should choose different schools. Go to high schools if you think that you can go farther on that road. Choose a key high school if you are lucky enough to have the chance. Enter a vocational school if you are interested in the lessons there and you are better at making things with your hands.

A myth is something that is not correct, but many people believe. There are a lot of myths about the human brain.
One of the biggest myths is that we only use 10 percent of our brains. The next part of the myth is that if we can learn to use the rest of our brains, then we'll be much smarter. People say this all the time, but it's not true! The truth is that although we don't know everything about the human brain, we know that each part of it has an important function (功能) . Modern scientists think the "10 percent myth" ridiculous (荒谬的) .
The other most popular myth is about being "right brained" or "left brained". According to this myth, people who use the right side of their brains are more artistic and creative. People who use the left side of their brains are better at math and science. This is as popular as the 10 percent myth, and it's also wrong. In 2013, a study at an American university examined the right brain and left brain myth. According to the study, we use both sides of our brains equally (相等地). "
It's true that we use different parts of our brains for different things. We use our left side for language more, and our right side when we need to pay attention. But there is no evidence (证据) that creative people use the right side more or that scientific people use the left side more.
We've talked about myths, so let's look at a few interesting facts about the brain. First of all, the brain feels no pain. Second, about 75 percent of the brain is made of water. It's also the fattest organ in your body. Here's another interesting fact about the brain. Around the time you turn 18 years old, it stops growing.
( )5. The underlined word "This" in Paragraph 3 refers to ______________.
A. the left brain myth B. the right brain and left brain myth
C. the use of human brains D. the study of an American university
( )6.Which of the following is TRUE about the human brain
A. It is growing all life long. B. The right side is used more by artists.
C. Some parts of it are not used at all. D. Three quarters of it is made of water.
( )7. The passage mainly tells about _________________.
A. the growing of the brain B. different functions of the brain
C. right brain and left brain D. myths and facts about the brain

Tomorrow is Garfield’s birthday. He first appeared in a comic strip on June 19, 1978. Garfield is well known all over the world. Lots of Garfield books have been turned into 26 languages. Garfield products are sold in 69 countries.
Jim Davis is Garfield’s creator. Jim was born on July 28, 1945 in Indiana. He grew up on a farm where his dad raised cows. Jim and his brother Dave helped with the farm work. They had 25 cats. Their room always made sure there was plenty of food for the cats.

五、阅读与回答问题
I love to write! Ever since I was a five-year-old girl, I wrote stories in my notebooks and on small pieces of paper. I told stories to my friends. As a grown-up, I have written over 100 books! That's a lot! As a teacher, it's my goal to encourage all of my students to love to write.
Writing is easy if you're careful enough, I told them. Everyone I meet is a possible character.
Everything I see or do is a possible scene in a book. Start looking around you. You'll be amazed at what you discover.
Anyone can be a writer. You just put your pencil on your paper and write what you like to read, step by step:
● Create great characters. If you know your characters well, they'll write the story for you.
● Interest the reader right at the beginning. You can start your stories with dialogue or action. If you can make the reader ask questions, then he has to keep reading to find out the answers.
● Follow the steps. The steps for every story are almost the same: Introduce the characters and the conflict(争端); things get worse; all seems lost; the hero saves the day!
● Balance is the key.
Remember, when writing, it doesn't hurt to add some humor.
