Rush for the gold
By John Feinstein Reviewed by Brian Forbes
Genre: Realistic fiction Number of pages: 320
What’s the basic story line
This story begins in ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) the months leading up to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. The two main characters are a 15-year-old swimmer, Susan Carol Anderson, and her boyfriend, Stevie Thomas. Susan and Stevie are teen sports journalists for different newspapers, which is how they meet. After winning the Swimming World Championships in Shanghai, Susan becomes a top American swimmer. With the help of her pushy (爱出风头的)agent, she is soon the most talked-about swimmer in the country, which is both a good thing and a bad thing.
Are the characters believable
The characters are be ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )lievable to an extent. Susan is six feet tall at age 15, which though uncommon, makes sense, considering her great athletic ability. However, despite being so exceptional in the pool, Susan is basically an ordinary girl. Like many teenagers, she loves to text and video-chat. Stevie is an ordinary sports-obsessed teenager, and is therefore automatically believable.
On a scale of 1 to 10 ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) (10 being the best) how would you rate this book
Rush for the ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )Gold is a great book. If you like swimming, then it is really an ideal book for you. The book shows how out of hand things can get when agents are trying to make money and control an athlete’s life. It also provides many details about the races, which makes it possible to picture what is happening. In general, I give Rush for the Gold a 9 out of 10. A 9, because while I do not think it is necessarily fit for all readers, I find it to be a page-turning story, and overall a great book.

Laughter is very ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )important for us. Do you need any reasons Here are some.
Seriously, laught ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )er is like a super vitamin. It reduces muscle tension, improves your memory, strengthens your immune system and helps prevent heart disease, among other things. It’s even worth giving a fake laugh at your co-worker’s awful joke.
When your heart breaks ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ), you want to be sad, and you want to focus your attention on that sadness. We often avoid laughter in order to respect the weight of losing a loved one, a job or a big mistake we’ve made. Those, however, are the times when we especially need to laugh at something. Humor makes losses less upsetting to keep it from crushing us. It also makes us less likely to get worried or angry.
Scary things ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )are less scary when you laugh at them. For example: When that guy in Jurassic Park gets eaten by the T-Rex, it1 s terrifying. I was five when I saw that, and I thought I was going to have a heart attack. But when my dad directed my attention to the fact that the man was sitting on a toilet when he got eaten, I laughed and felt much less scared.
Laughter cur ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )es boredom. A funny friend asks you if you want to go rock climbing — sure. She wants to check out a new movie — let’s do it. She asks if you want to go to a wine tasting and pretend to know what the difference between Pinot (加州葡萄酒)and Chardonnay (夏敦埃酒) is — duh, you,re already there with a glass for you and her. All this is because she makes you laugh. If you stay with a friend that can make you laugh, you’ll never get bored. Who doesn’t want that
Do you need any mor ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )e reasons But I think these reasons are already enough to make you know the importance of laughter.
5. Paragraph 2 mainly shows that laughter .
A. can really help us relax
B. can be used as medicine
C. is physically good for us
D. can just prevent heart disease
6. Which can be inferred about laughter from Paragraph 3
A. It often gives way to something sad.
B. It can help reduce negative emotions.
C. It should be avoided on certain occasions.
D. It is especially important to those who are sad.
7. By mentioning th ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )e experience the author had when he was five, he wanted to show that____.
A. laughter is even important.to kids
B. scary things are really funny at times
C. laughing at scary things makes them less scary
D. parents can protect their kids from scary things
8. We learn from Paragraph 5 that________.
A. funny people usually have many friends
B. people like hanging out with humorous people
C. funny people can make others become hard working
D. people try to make others laugh in order to make friends

American childr ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )en aged 8 to 18 spend an average of more than seven hours daily using some kind of entertainment media. Many kids now watch TV online and many send messages from their bedrooms after “lights out”,yet few parents set rules about media use.

Ever wonder why pla ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ygrounds only belong to children When you reach your mid-twenties, you aren’t expected to enjoy yourself as freely as you would in your teenage years. Why is such enjoyment limited to a particular age group only A major culprit has to be our society’s tradition about sticking to life’s goals and advancing in a career path. But today, we’ll be shifting our attention towards a less-known reason — the absence of playing equipment for older generations.
The fix is easy and ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )difficult at the same time. Easy, because file obvious way of rectifying SL) the matter would be to have playground equipment for adults placed in parks and on playgrounds with ones meant for younger generations. And it is difficult because not many companies make such play-structures and encouraging older people to frequent such locations is a hard task. Not many people would like to leave a few hours out of their already-busy routines to play. However, some companies have started installing (安装)play-structures big and strong enough for average-sized adults.
Could gyms provide the ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) service It depends on how you plan to use the gym-space for recreational purposes and mostly, they’re used to gain fitness only. And none of the time spent at the gym for this reason is considered to be recreational since it is not fun at all. When was the last time you saw somebody dead lifted 150 pounds Never.
But if you moderni ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ze gyms and aim to provide activities other than, or alongside, fitness ones, then yes, gyms could be used for recreational and fun purposes. We’ve already seen examples including pool tables, badminton and squash (壁球)spaces in gyms and they are all great ways to get new adults and older people to have fun on a regular basis like children.

A. Because many people prefer to play on the playground.
B. Because the solution to the problem is easy to find.
C. Because children are willing to share the playground with others.
D. Because companies have produced play-stmctures for adults.

As we can see ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ), WeChat has become increasingly popular in recent years. We can communicate with each other through voice and send pictures and text messages. However, it ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )also has disadvantages. First, we must be aware that our identity and personal information may be revealed on it. Second, a lot of time and energy will be wasted if we use WeChat for too long.
