When I studie ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )d in college, I spent a term abroad at the University of Copenhagen, in Denmark. The experience abroad offered something a bit more exciting than that in my state college. The language was not a problem. Everyone in Denmark speaks English very well. The country is safe and the educational opportunities are excellent.
At first I s ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )tayed in a house of a single woman, who was housing two American students. The woman provided more supervision (监督)than my own parents, so I left the home and went to live in the dormitory. To my surprise, I found most of the American students had moved into the dorms for the same reason.
Once I settled in t ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )he dorm, my focus was getting to know Copenhagen and the local social scene. The American students all arrived with bright colored jackets to protect them from the cold Danish weather, so the Danes could easily pick us out of the crowd.
I arrived in Januar ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )y. The weather was cold and I was happy with my jacket. The Danes walked everywhere and it was easy to get around in the city, but it did take some time to get used to the cold weather there. While there is only about five hours of daylight in winter, there is as much as 18 hours of daylight in the middle of summer. For this reason, I chose to stay there at the end of the term to really enjoy this wonderful city in the warmer weather.
While the educati ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )onal opportunities at the University of Copenhagen were great, they were not the major focus for most of the students I knew. The professors seemed to understand the need of the foreign students, so they were not very strict with us. Grades were not a problem or a stress. We had enough spare time to travel around. This may be different from other programs or universities.

I was always very g ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ood at Math. Therefore, when my son followed in my footsteps, I was one proud father. The problem was that the boy always got bored easily as the teacher’s pace was quite slow. He loved the subject, but he no longer found it interesting to study it in class. He was ahead of his peers (同龄人),and he needed a little bit of motivation. Here are some tips to make this important subject more enjoyable for my second grade son.
In order to challenge ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) him, I ask him math questions about everything that he does. If he says that his favorite cartoon is at 3 o’ clock, I will ask him to check the time and tell me how many minutes are left. If he wants to buy something at the shop that is worth thirty dollars, I will ask him how much I have to give him to get twenty dollars back. Whenever we go shopping, I ask him to add up the total cost of everything we have bought, and he likes paying for the shopping himself and calculating the change he expects.
There are many ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) mathematics games that my son enjoys. We usually play these games as a family in order to stimulate (鼓舞) his mind. There are also some downloadable mathematics games I can get for him to help him learn more about measurement and geometry (几何).These games can give us a lot of fun,and with them we can while away the day with interesting mathematics on Sundays. This is especially important for measurement and geometry.
Mathematics does no ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )t have to be boring. With these ideas, I have managed to put a lot of fun into a subject which I know will benefit my son a lot in the future.
28. What was the author’s son’s problem
A. He did not like mathematics at all.
B. He did not do well in mathematics.
C. He had lost all the interest in math study.
D. He disliked his teacher’s slow teaching.
29. Why does the author ask his son to check the time
A. He wants his son to live a regular life every day.
B. He wants his son to study math at home on time.
C. He uses the daily math questions to challenge his son.
D. He is afraid that his son will miss the cartoon time.
30. The underlined phrase “while away” in Paragraph 3 probably means
A. have a good time
B. go away for a holiday
C. spend time pleasantly
D. discuss some questions
31. The author writes this passage mainly to tell readers______.
A. mathematics is a very important subject
B. how he makes mathematics fun for his son
C. studying math has much fun and is very easy
D. how to improve the math ability of children

When you watch a mo ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )vie these days, it’s difficult to tell what’s real and what’s created by using computers. Visual (视觉的)effects can even change how movies are made.
Almost anything that ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) can be imagined by a director can now become reality in the world of movies. “We’re really not limited by the technology,” said David Smith, the CEO of Sony Pictures Imageworks. Mr Smith said that with today’s technology, the digital world was more realistic than ever before. For The Amazing Spider-Man2, Mr Smith’s team created a Times Square that was exactly like the real one in New York. “If there are lights inside the stores that are lighting areas inside the store, we put those lights there,” said Mr Smith.
But there was still on ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )e challenge for visual effects artists, said Paul Debevec of the University of Southern California Institute for Creative Technologies. “We’re still trying to figure out how to perfect the human face in movies,” said Debevec. Mr Debevec added t ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )hat besides changing the look of an actor face, there could be another use for digital (数字的)faces in the entertainment. Now Mr Debevec expe ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )cts directors will start to use more virtual (虚拟的)production techniques, like those seen in the movie Avatar. Mr Debevec says that with virtual production, there won’t be a need for so many people behind the scenes. But visual effects artists agree, even with advanced technology, there is no replacement for a real actor showing a character in a movie.
32. By mentioning Th ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )e Amazing Spider-Man2, the writer wants to show that______.
A. it was a movie that was really worth seeing
B. it cost a lot of money to make the movie
C. the digital world has become very realistic
D. many things in the movie were imagined by the director
33. We infer in t ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )he movie The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Brad Pitt______.

Hot air balloo ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ns operate on the very basic scientific principle that hot air rises. Many people practice ballooning as a sport. 36 Generally speaking, hot air balloons are quite safe.
Before examin ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ing the safety of hot air balloons, it may help to understand how they work. Each balloon has a large bag called an envelope, attached to a basket. In order to get enough lift, the air in the bag is heated with the help of a flame. 37 When the flight is over, the pilot slowly lets out enough air to allow the balloon to drop to the ground.
38 Typically, pilots ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )choose the early morning hours to fly, since wind speeds are still low. Low wind speeds make riding in hot air balloons much safer, and the flights are more enjoyable. The weather is the most important concern in hot air balloon safety. High winds and extreme weather such as rain and snow are potentially very dangerous. 39 Good pilots also always check their equipment before beginning a flight, and they often carry backup tanks of flight and other equipment for safety.
Generally, pilots who ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )want to fly hot air balloons must get a pilot’s license. 40 But in many countries there are specific courses and examinations which pilots must take to handle these types of aircraft. A private license allows a pilot to fly with a few friends, while a commercial license permits a pilot to fly larger balloons.
Balloon rides can be g ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )reat fun, and they are very safe as long as passengers follow the directions of the pilot.
A. As the air heats up, the balloon rises.
B. Others enjoy it as a relaxing activity.
C. This requirement varies in different nations.
D. Pilots needn’t control the directions of the balloons.
E. An experienced pilot will not fly in these conditions.
