A boy lost in the wilderness was saved by a kangaroo. That’s the story floating around after Simon Kruger, a 7-year-old boy, was rescued from Australia’s Deep Creek Conservation Park.
According to Australia’s 7 News, the saga (传奇故事) began when Simon wandered off after the family ate a picnic lunch. Apparently the lost boy drifted away to pick flowers for his mom. Instead, he got hopelessly lost — and without adequate warm clothing to stay out overnight in the forest.
A police search, including helicopters, followed. But Simon wasn’t found for 24 hours — even though he was ultimately discovered only about half a kilometer from the family’s campsite. His father Etienne Kruger thinks his son was disoriented when the rain and wind swept in after he got lost.
However it happened, Simon wasn’t found for almost a full 24 hours. The overnight weather was cold and wet, dropping to a low of around 43 degrees Fahrenheit.
So how did the lost boy survive the cold, wet night The family said that Simon’s flowers for his mom attracted a kangaroo. His dad explained, “A kangaroo came closer to him and ate the flowers from him, and the kangaroo fell asleep next to him. I think God sent a kangaroo to keep him warm.”
4. The purpose of the writer is to ______.
A. inform us a moving story between a boy and an animal
B. teach the children to protect the environment
C. ask the parents to look after their children more carefully
D. praise the policemen for their great effort to rescue a lost boy
5. What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A. The kangaroo feeds on flowers.
B. At first sight, the little boy was fond of the kangaroo very much.
C. It was the flowers that attracted the police to the place where the boy was found.
D. It was lucky for the boy to have a kangaroo with him.
6. What does the underlined word “disoriented” mean
A. Determined. B. Excited. C. Confused. D. Concerned.
7. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage
A. Realizing he was lost, Simon tried his best to find the way back.
B. The police found the boy because of the signs that a kangaroo had left.
C. With the help of the police, the lost boy could survive the cold night.
D. The boy was lost for almost 24 hours without warm clothing in the forest.

Today, the imagination of going somewhere in a car with no one in the driver’s seat has come true. However, the self-driving cars still ask a human to be ready to take over driving if needed.
Known as autonomous cars, they can make going anywhere much more convenient. The adults often spend more than 300 hours behind the wheel each year. Self-driving cars could give them that time back.
In addition, autonomous cars may possibly transform what a car is and how it works. Think about it. With no need for a driver, does there need a driver’s seat or a steering wheel Self-driving cars could have couches, beds or even an entire kitchen. Passengers could sit and talk with one another face to face or go to sleep at the start of a drive and wake up in a new place. A chef could prepare a meal while on the way to deliver it to your home. The inside of a car could also be an office, hair salon, or personal gym. Suddenly, cars are much more than just a way to get from one place to another.
But a future of cars driving themselves around city streets with no one inside is still years away. That’s because the technology behind autonomous vehicles isn’t perfect yet. The cameras and other systems that self-driving cars use to guide themselves have trouble “seeing” the road in bad weather or heavy traffic. They also have difficulty dealing with different types of roads. The road signs, and turns of a highway are very different from those of a neighborhood road. So, at least for a while, there will still need to be a human driver ready to take the wheel in self-driving cars.
8. What can be learned about self-driving cars from paragraph l and 2
A. They need monthly system update. B. They can replace autonomous cars.
C. They lengthen the adults’ driving time. D. They turn to human control sometimes.
9. What may be changed by autonomous cars
A. The types of roads. B. People’s body clocks.
C. Communication methods. D. The in-car human activities.
10. What prevents self-driving cars from city streets
A. The unclear signs of highways.
B. Their inability to avoid traffic jam.
C. The imperfect technology behind the cars.
D. Their disadvantage in cleaning up the cameras.
11. What does the text mainly talk about self-driving cars
A. The bright future. B. The present situation.
C. The unreal imagination. D. The unsolved problems.

Do you ever get to the train station and realize you forgot to bring something to read Yes, we all have our phones, but many of us still like to go old school and read something printed.
Well, there’s a kiosk (小亭) for that. In the San Francisco Bay Area, at least.
“You enter the fare gates (检票口) and you’ll see a kiosk that is lit up and it tells you can get a one-minute, a three-minute, or a five-minute story,” says Alicia Trost, the chief communications officer for the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit — known as BART. “You choose which length you want and it gives you a receipt-like short story.”
It’s that simple. Riders have printed nearly 20,000 short stories and poems since the program was launched last March. Some are classic short stories, and some are new original works.
Trost also wants to introduce local writers to local riders. “We wanted to do something where we do a call to artists in the Bay Area to submit stories for a contest,” Trost says. “And as of right now, we’ve received about 120 submissions. The winning stories would go into our kiosk and then you would be a published artist.”
Ridership on transit (交通) systems across the country has been down the past half century, so could short stories save transit
Trost thinks so.
“At the end of the day all transit agencies right now are doing everything they can to improve the rider experience. So I absolutely think we will get more riders just because of short stories,” she says.
And you’ll never be without something to read.
12. Why did BART start the kiosk program
A. To promote the local culture. B. To discourage phone use.
C. To meet passengers’ needs. D. To reduce its running costs.
13. How are the stories categorized in the kiosk
A. By popularity. B. By length.
C. By theme. D. By language.
14. What has Trost been doing recently
A. Organizing a story contest. B. Doing a survey of customers.
C. Choosing a print publisher. D. Conducting interviews with artists.
15. What is Trost’s opinion about BART’s future
A. It will close down. B. Its profits will decline.
C. It will expand nationwide. D. Its ridership will increase.

50. 【答案】Dear Tom,
I’m sorry to learn that you are going through a hard time in learning Chinese. Now I’d like to offer you some suggestions.
To begin with, you should have a positive attitude towards learning Chinese. Read a lot and read Chinese aloud as much as possible, because it can enhance the sense of language. Besides, seize every opportunity to practise using the language. The more you practice, the more fluent you will become. Above all, involve yourself in a Chinese environment, such as having situational dialogues, watching Chinese movies, singing Chinese songs, learning Tang poetry and understanding Chinese culture. At last, trust yourself. Your efforts will be rewarded and you are bound to make greater progress.
Looking forward to your improvement soon.
Yours truly,
Li Hua
