I’m a seventeen-year-old boy preparing for my A Level exams at the end of the year. In the society where my peers (同龄人) and I live, we tend to accept the rat race values. As students, we want to get good grades so that we can get good jobs. I enjoy studying and have consistently received A’s in my classes. There was a year when I finished first in my class in the final exams. It was a great accomplishment.
Another one I am pleased with is that I managed to improve the relationship between Mum and Dad. Dad was a successful businessman who was rarely at home. Mum was a housewife who always felt bored and constantly nagged (唠叨) him to let her go to work. Their constant arguing bothered me, so I advised Dad that Mum would be better off with a part-time job. He agreed, and their relationship has improved since then.
My most proud achievement, however, is my successful work in the local old folks’ home. My grandparents had raised me since I was a child. I wept (哭泣) bitterly when they died. Unlike many of my classmates, I do not take part in my school's community service to earn points. I enjoy my voluntary work and believe I'm contributing to a worthwhile cause. This is where I can help. I talk to the elderly, assist them with their daily life, and listen to their problems, glory days and the hardships they experienced.
Last year I hosted a successful New Year party for the elderly and they enjoyed a great time. Many expressed a desire to attend another party the following year. When I reflect on my accomplishments, I'm especially proud of my service at the old folks’ home, so I hope to study social work at university and work as a social worker in the future. I wish to be more skilled in attending to the less fortunate as well as find great satisfaction in it, after all.
4. What can be inferred about the author from the first paragraph
A. His good grades got him a good job. B. His views on social values are well known.
C. He is content with his scholastic achievements. D. He refuses to compete with his peers fiercely.
5. Which role does the author play in his parents’ relationship
A. A judge. B. A helper. C. A monitor. D. A supporter.
6. What is the greatest accomplishment for the author
A. The work in community service. B. The contribution to volunteering.
C. The success in exams. D. The recovery of confidence in life.
7 Why does the author want to major in social work at university
A. To get a well-paid job. B. To make his life more colourful.
C. To get himself recognized in the community. D. To better help the less abled.

Yawning (打哈欠) is something we all do — maybe because we’re bored carrying out boring tasks or because we’re tired. Sometimes, just seeing other people yawn can set you off. But is this biological function really contagious, and why do we do it in the first place
Many of us think we open our mouths when we yawn to take in more oxygen, but in fact it appears there is no clear biological reason. According to BBC Bitesize, new research suggests it might be because yawning cools the brain down and prevents it from overheating, much like the fan in your laptop. This might be why we’re more likely to feel sleepy and yawn in warm temperatures.
What is clear is that we yawn more when we’re exhausted and ready for a nap, and we can’t control when we do it — once we start, there’s no stopping us! But it’s also true that yawning is a very contagious behavior. John Drury, a researcher from Sussex University found in his research that there is a connection with our social group and how close we are to the people in it. If we identify with the person who exhibits the behavior, we are likely to copy it too.
Another research by the University of Nottingham in 2017 found similar results. They asked volunteers to watch other people yawn. They found their ability to resist yawning when others around them yawned was limited. And the urge to yawn was increased when people were told they couldn’t. They also found, when using electrical stimulation, that they were able to increase people’s desire to yawn. These findings, they say, could be useful in treating other conditions like Tourette’s, which involve the same area of the brain.
What is certain is that a yawn can creep up on us at any time even when we think we’re not tired — but, I hope, not when you’re reading this article!

C. our brain needs to be cooled down. D. we are bored with difficult tasks.
10. What is the similarity between John Drury’s findings and those of the university of Nottingham
A. Humans can’t stop yawning as it is beneficial.
B. When told not to yawn, we will yawn less frequently.
C. Using electrical stimulation can stimulate people to yawn.
D. We are more likely to yawn when someone around us yawns.
11. What is the text mainly about
A. The reasons for yawning. B. The benefits of studying yawning.
C. The necessity of yawning. D. The similarity of the studies on yawning.

The popularity of the video has attracted people' s attention on the unlikely story of a ballet school in a poor small town of Lagos, Nigeria: the Leap of Dance School.
