There is a hidden paradise in Southwest China where the water comes from the Changjiang River, and the mountains extend to Kunlun. Guizhou, a province of wonders and colors, is home to many ethnicities. The people of this area have maintained a harmonious and respectful relationship with the natural world for thousands of years.
The Miao people, who moved to Guizhou about 4,000 years ago, still live there today. And for the Miao people who live on Yueliang Mountain, loud gunshots break through the morning silence each day. The last remaining riflemen’s group(枪手部落)in China is based in Biasha, Congjiang County. The village also welcomes honored guests by firing gunshots into the sky when they arrive.
The Miao people of Biasha believe that all things in nature have a spirit, and that humans should be grateful for them instead of trying to own them. Spiritually, they are closely connected with their own trees. Each person has three trees in their life.
To protect their child throughout the life, parents plant a tree when the child is born. On the first day of each New Year or any other major holidays, the person pays respect to the tree. The coffin(棺材)will be made of the tree when the person passes away.
A village figure selects a tree for every child who turns 15 to ensure that they reach adulthood. The tree is known as “Xiaozaishu”, which means “the tree that prevents bad luck”. The boy and girl must worship the tree from childhood until adulthood.
“Changqingshu”, which means “the evergreen tree”, is the third tree of life. After someone dies, the tree is placed right above the burial location. This means that life continues in another form.
Guizhou is rich in colorful customs and cultures. These customs and cultures are both tangible and intangible. They develop well in this land where they shine with their uniqueness.

Every year, billions of people travel across borders. While most trips are from one non-English speaking country to another, English is the main language used for communication. In fact, communication in English between two non-native speakers is generally not a problem. The real problem is when a non-native is faced with a fast-speaking native English speaker.
English words tend to merge(合并) together much more frequently than words in most languages. This has even given rise to informal new spellings of word pairs: ain’t = am not, gonna = going to. Another issue is with speech itself. When native English speakers talk, they don’t necessarily follow a logical structure, nor do they know exactly what their arrival point will be. This means they might move forward a bit and then go backwards, and fill their speech with redundancy(多余). Actually anyone can notice this redundancy in their own language, but it’s hard to understand it in a foreign language.
When you talk with a native English speaker, the trick is to find ways to tune out all the noise and identify the key words. To tell the essential from the non-essential, you should focus only on the loud and long words. These words tend to be the key words. If you can understand at least these words, then you should be able to make sense of the overall speech. A good way to see this in action is by watching a presentation on and reading the transcript (文字记录) at the same time. This will help you identify which words the speaker stresses.
However, under the best conditions, people only take in 40% of what they hear in their native language. Even many native speakers don’t always understand each other, possibly due to different accents. We might ignore, forget, or misunderstand about 75% of what we hear. Therefore, if you don’t understand something, it is OK to ask for clarification(说明).
28. What is paragraph 2 mainly about
A. The characteristics of English words.
B. The difficulties of learning English well.
C. The problems of talking with non-native English speakers.
D. The reasons why it is hard to understand native English speakers.
29. How can listeners effectively recognize key words in spoken English
A. By repeatedly listening to TED talks.
B. By ignoring background noise during the speech.
C. By focusing on the long words that a speaker stresses.
D. By reading the transcript of the speech before listening.
30. What can we infer from the last paragraph
A. People can just remember 75% of what they hear.
B. Understanding native English speakers fully is hard.
C. Keeping calm will help you receive more information.
D. Misunderstandings are not common among native speakers.
31.What is a suitable title for the text
A. Tips for understanding native English speakers
B. Language challenges in international travel
C. The importance of English as a global language
D. Differences between native and non-native speakers
D
You and your best friend have a lot in common: your favorite food, your taste in music, and maybe your hometown. But a new study finds that your similarities may even extend to the genetic level.
The researchers, James Fowler of University of California San Diego and Nicholas Christakis of Yale University, used data collected during the famous Framingham Heart Study, running since 1948 in Framingham, a town in Massachusetts. When subjects shared their DNA with researchers for the study, they shared lots of other information, too, including whom they hang out with. “Because Framingham is quite small, many people that were friends also happened to take part in the study,” Fowler explained. He and Christakis looked at almost 2,000 subjects and identified about 1,400 pairs of friends.
The findings show that people share 0.1 percent more DNA with their friends than with perfect strangers. That’s about the same genetic similarity you share with your fourth cousin.
For the findings, the study authors have a few theories. Maybe people with similar genes seek out similar environments and then meet others like them. Or, people who share DNA could have comparable skill sets, so they work together better over long periods of evolutionary(进化的)time.
The study has a few limitations. For one, the team didn’t look across the entire human genome-they compared only about 500,000 of each person’s three billion DNA base pairs. For another, even though the researchers removed anyone who was related in any way, Framingham’s population is made up mostly of descendants of Italian and Irish immigrants, so the genetic differences may not be large enough to make a wider-reaching conclusion. But the study such as this could influence theories about how altruism(利他主义)has developed over evolutionary time.
Of course, Fowler and Christakis don’t have all the information yet. Interestingly, they found that the biggest genetic similarities were found in friends’ sense of smell. They’re not quite sure why that would be the case, but future studies may help them find out the answers.
32. What do we know about the new study
A. It explored people’s social relationships. B. It used data collected from a small town.
C. It built upon and improved earlier research. D. It centered on mapping the genes of friends.
33. What’s the purpose of paragraph 4
A. To point out the research methods used.
B. To discuss the possible effects of the new study.
C. To explain possible reasons behind the findings.
D. To summarize previous studies on genetic similarities.
34. In which aspect did the new study fall short
A. Only including the Irish descendants.
B. Researching a small number of subjects.
C. Paying too much attention to social networks.
D. Failing to cover the entire human genome.
35. What is the author’s attitude towards the new study
A. Positive. B. Objective. C. Doubtful. D. Disappointed.

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
How to get back to sleep
Waking up in the middle of the night is normal. Most of us experience mini-awakenings without even noticing them-up to 20 times per hour. When it comes to observable wake-ups, most people have about two or three per night. We tend to look at the clock, toss and turn for hours, or turn on the light and check our phones when sleep gets away from us. 36
Don’t watch the clock.
Turn your alarm clock to face the wall and resist the desire to check the time on your phone. Counting the minutes of missed sleep since you wake up in the middle of the night increases stress and anxiety. 37 In addition, exposure to blue light from your phone can make you more awake.
38
Visit the bathroom to empty your bladder(膀胱)if it might be full. Make sure that your bedroom is cool and dark and that your bedding is just right so that you don’t feel too warm or cold.
Get up and go.
If you’re just not sleepy, get up after about 20 minutes have gone by. Sit in a comfortable chair. Read a book, with just enough lights on so that you can see the print comfortably. If your mind is racing, distract yourself by listening to quiet music for a few minutes. It’s important not to stay in bed when you’re reading. Staying in bed will lead your brain and body to associate your bed with wakefulness instead of with sleep. 39
Follow your normal schedule tomorrow.
Don’t sleep in, don’t nap, and don’t go to bed early the next night. Get up at your usual time and go to bed at your usual bedtime. 40 But by increasing your body’s appetite for sleep, you’re ensuring a better night.
A. Get comfortable.
B. Try muscle relaxation.
C. It could delay your return to sleep.
D. Go back to your bed when you feel sleepy.
E.You may feel a bit more tired than usual during the day.
F. However, there are better ways to help you get back to sleep.
G. Don’t do anything challenging like dealing with problems in your life.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。
With my parents away on a business trip, I planned to spend a quiet weekend at home. But when my friends Chickie and Dom invited me to join them for an afternoon at the beach, I was tempted. “I had an asthma(哮) attack yesterday, and it really tired me out,” I warned them. “So I’ll probably just lie out on the sand.”
A few hours later, relaxing under a sun umbrella after a picnic lunch, I was glad I’d come. I looked for Chickie and Dom in the water, but they were too far away. They like to go far out before swimming back to the shore. I soaked up(吸收) the sun until I got too hot, and then I took a walk down to the water.
For a few minutes I just let the waves lap around my legs. The ocean was smooth. I thought I could float on my back as if I were in a swimming pool, and I did. I closed my eyes and enjoyed the gentle rocking underneath me. The sun wasn’t quite hot this late in the afternoon.
I drifted(漂移) peacefully until the water beneath me rolled, splashing(飞溅) over my face. I opened my eyes and looked around. How did I get so far from the shore
I started swimming as quick and hard as I could. Even so, I wasn’t getting any closer, and it was becoming harder to breathe. I spun around with a splash, looking for help, but it seemed that I was completely alone in the water. Far off on the sand I could see people packing up their umbrellas and towels. It must be nearly five o’clock, I thought. That’s when the lifeguard went off duty.
A wave slapped my face and I swallowed salt water. My chest was already burning as I struggled to breathe. In desperation I raised one hand and waved it to get someone’s attention. Two young men with their surf board were suddenly near me.

Dear David,
I’m delighted to learn that you’ve started learning Chinese! Knowing that you would like to have a better command of Chinese, I’m writing to share with you some practical suggestions.
With proper guidance and enough practice, you are certain to become skilled in Chinese. To begin with, it is advisable that you regularly watch some Chinese learning programmes, which will expose you to a real-world learning environment and will help you develop a better understanding of Chinese culture. Besides, you’d better make some Chinese friends and communicate with them as much as possible. With frequent communication in real life, you’ll eventually improve your oral Chinese and feel more confident.
Hopefully my tips above can be of some help. Wish you success.
Yours,
Li Hua

One possible version:
“Help!” I managed to cry out. One of them grabbed my left arm, and the other grabbed my right arm. Together, they tried to pull me toward the shore. But I was too exhausted to move by myself. So the young men laid me over the surf board and carried me onto the sand. As we reached to the shore, one of the young men asked, “Are you all right ” I looked at him and nodded my head.
“The water is not deep. Actually you can stand there.” the other young man said. I felt very embarrassed and got up to walk back to my umbrella. After just a few steps, I turned around to thank the young men. But the beach was nearly empty and the young men had just gone. Getting back to the umbrella, I felt a mix of gratitude and awe. The young men helped me when I was in danger, and for that, I would be eternally grateful. I looked back at the water once more, thinking I would never underestimate the power of sea.

I found that I felt different due to what I was eating, so I tried to find places that served food that made me feel good. The secret was the quality of the food and how well the food was prepared. I made an effort to find good restaurants as well as nice dishes.
A: How did you manage to make a list of 218 favorite restaurants
B: I’ve lived in many cities and when I moved back to Sweden from the United States, people asked me where to go and eat when they went to cities I knew. I got a lot of ideas. Then I wrote about restaurants for the Swedish club magazine and someone suggested I gather the information about the restaurants together since I had all the facts about the restaurants I’ve been to. I started to do that.
A: How do you find restaurants
B: The best way is to ask the people there. I may talk to the people at the street market or take a walk and look for a place for myself. I never asked a hotel clerk or a taxi driver. I don’t go empty restaurants or places with menus too difficult to understand.
Text 10
M: At the beginning of the tour, we’ll start with the most important place in my town, which is the Plaza Leon. The Plaza Leon, which is more than 100 years old, is a gathering place for young people on Friday and Saturday nights, and for parents and children on Sunday afternoons. Four streets lead to the Plaza, which have white sidewalks and treeline. Hernandes Street, which was named after a famous writer born in the city, contains all of the food stores, fish markets and vegetable stands. Femando Street, which was named after an educator, is where all of the government offices are housed. Via del Mar Street, whose roads are made of stones, is the only street which still has its old surface. Finally we come to Horatio Street on which there are two universities, one of them is the most famous university in my country. That’s why it’s my favorite street of all.
