Unit 2 I can run really fast?
Teaching aims:
1. To match pictures with new words.
2. To get information from the reading material about the three monitors.
3. To make notes and write sentences.
4. To learn to write paragraphs.
Teaching points:
Key vocabulary—monitor, start, ready, promise, fast, fit, just, ball, game, team, best, score, tidy, sure, everybody, beautiful.
Key structure—other, other
Teaching procedures:
Step 1. Revision
Get the students to read the words and sentences.

2. I often help… do sth.
What do/does sb. do?
Step 2. Reading
Get the students to look at the pictures in Activity 1, say what is happening.
In pairs and talk about what they can do.
Get the students to answer the questions.
Call back their ideas in a whole class setting.
Step 3. Matching
Get the students to listen to tape. Listen to the four paragraphs.
Get the students to read through the three paragraphs individually. Then match them with the pictures.
Let the students share their answers with their partner.
Call back the answers from the whole class, having the students read the paragraphs, with a different student reading each sentence.
Step 4. Reading
Get the students to read the passage, and talk about which monitors do they want to be.
Get some students to read the passage loudly. Compare which group reads the best.
Step 5. Answering
Read the passage and check the true sentences.
Lingling doesn’t get on well with others.
Lingling is kind to everyone.
Daming is good at sports so he wan gets to be the PE monitor.
Daming plays football for the school.
Tony doesn’t like cleaning.
Tony’s home is tidy.

Get the students to read the headings and make sure the students understand them.
Step 7. Joining
underline the correct words.

Step 9. speaking
Work in pairs. Choose the best classmates to be the monitors in Activity1. Say:

Step 10. Writing
Write a passage about one of the monitors in activity 5. use the passage in activity 2 to help you.
Sample:
Lily is a good cleaning monitor in our class. She often cleans our classroom, and she let us like clean classroom, just like home.
Step 11. Homework
1. Finish off the Workbook exercise.
2. Copy the new words in this unit.
