One of the best ways to pay for college is to find work that helps bear part of the school fee. Here are 4 types of part-time jobs that provide students with extra income.
Jobs with employer scholarships
Some companies offer help by paying for college through scholarship programs. Taco Bell, for instance, offers its part-time employees the chance to win an up to $25,000 award through its Live Mas Scholarship. The award can be used toward vocational schools or a two- or four-year college. Employees must have worked for the company at least three continuous months.
Work-study
For years the work-study program has allowed students to earn money through part-time work. Students aged between 16 and 24 who file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid may be qualified for the program. While these jobs aren t always on campus, students in work-study can earn at least $7.25 per hour—the state s minimum wage.
Paid internships
A paid trainee position can not only help students pay for college but can also open doors for full-time work after graduation. According to a 2019 survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, nearly two-thirds of paid interns received a job offer, while just about 44% of unpaid interns were offered a job.
On-demand economy jobs
Known for their flexibility, the jobs can help students earn cash between classes. These on-demand jobs include completing small jobs, making deliveries or even driving for ride-booking services. Students can typically earn more through on-demand work, ranging from $10 to $20 an hour.
21.What are the applicants for the work-study program required to do
A.Submit an application form.
B.Work part time for years.
C.Accept the minimum wage.
D.Live and work on campus.
22.What is one of the advantages of on-demand economy jobs
A.Providing scholarships.
B.Having the fixed workplace.
C.Including an extra award.
D.Offering more job options.
23.Which program is of great help for students to find a full-time job
A.Jobs with employer scholarships.
B.On-demand economy jobs.
C.Paid internships.
D.Work-study.

I grew up in a three-bedroom brick house in the Park Hill section of North Little Rock, Arkansas. It was a sweet, ordinary little home but reminded me of so much love.
I ve always felt I was raised by a beautiful fairy. My mom, Nellie, was soft-spoken and had an extraordinary smile. My father, Maurice, was a train conductor and his declining health was the most defining aspect of my childhood. When I was 8, the doctors told us that Dad had a severe heart condition and we needed to care for him. I developed magical thinking, which was vital to my later acting. I d say to myself that if I did this and that, my daddy would live.
After high school, I attended Hendrix College in Arkansas. When I was a freshman, they cast me in a school s big play. At the end, one of the drama professors said, “You don t really belong here. You belong in New York. They d know what to do with you.” He gave me a list of schools. He pointed to the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre and said it was small but Sanford Meisner, the man who ran it was great. I auditioned (试镜) and a month later, I was accepted. Mom and I started crying.
After moving to New York, my big break came six years later, in 1977. I took a meeting about a movie called “Goin South”, with Jack Nicholson. After the audition, they said I wasn t quite right. Back in reception, I wanted to apologize for being stubborn. Jack was standing there. He said, “Are you waiting to see me ” I told him I was but I didn t have a script. He gave me one and told me I d have 10 minutes with him the next day. I made it to a screen test in L.A. Later, I was in Jack s office and asked if someone could approve my hotel expenses. Jack was smoking a cigar. He said, “Don t worry about it, kid. You re on the payroll.”
Today, my husband, actor Ted Danson, and I spend most of our time in Ojai, California. I also love the wildness of the mountains. I still own my childhood home in Arkansas. I haven t been able to part with it. Emotionally, the love from my parents is still there.
24.What motivated the author to develop her ability to act

From self-driving cars to carebots for elderly people, rapid advances in technology have long represented a potential threat to many jobs normally performed by people.
Experts now believe that almost 50 per cent of occupations existing today will be completely unnecessary by 2025 as artificial intelligence continues to transform businesses. This could put some people s livelihoods at risk.
“Experts predict that 50 per cent of occupations today will no longer exist by 2025 as people will take up more creative professions,” said Martin Chen, Chief Operating Officer of Genesis. “This means that jobs will develop and so will real estate development.”
Workspaces with rows of desks will become completely extra, not because they are not fit for use, but simply because that purpose no longer exists, according to the report. “The next fifteen years will see a revolution in how we work, and a corresponding revolution will necessarily take place in how we plan and think about workplaces,” said Peter Andrew, Director of Workplace Strategy for CBRE Asia Pacific.
A growing proportion of jobs in the future will require creativity intelligence, social skills and the ability to apply artificial intelligence. “And for most people that will be a route to happiness and fulfillment,” the report states.
Data in the US suggests that technology already destroys more jobs than it creates, as GDP has been able to grow faster than employment since 2000. A 2014 report by Pew Research found 52 per cent of experts in artificial intelligence and robotics were optimistic about the future and believed there would still be enough jobs in the next few decades.
The optimists imagined “a future in which robots and digital agents do not replace more jobs than they create”. Microsoft s Jonathan Grudin told researchers, “Technology will continue to break up jobs, but more jobs seem likely to be created. Although there have always been unemployed people, when we reached a few billion people there would be billions of jobs. There is no shortage of things that need to be done and that will not change.”
28.What will put some people s livelihoods at risk by 2025 according to experts
A.Businesses. B.Real estate.
C.Artificial intelligence. D.Self-driving cars and carebots.
29.Why will desks in offices be unnecessary in the future
A.The desks will no longer be fit for the purpose.
B.There will be no purpose of using the desks in offices.
C.The development of technology removes the need for desks.
D.The office revolution will make people rethink about their work.
30.What will the characteristics of the jobs be in the future
A.Most jobs in the future use high technology.
B.More and more jobs are the focus of happiness and fulfillment.
C.More and more jobs are focusing on artificial intelligence.
D.Most jobs will require social ability to communicate with others.
31.What can be implied in Jonathan Grudin s words in the last paragraph
A.People needn t worry about their jobs in the future.
B.There will be billions of people in fifteen years of time.
C.Enough jobs will be created for everyone to choose from.
D.Robots and digital agents create more jobs than they destroy.
D
At a time when we are all experiencing an extraordinary level of stress, science offers a simple and effective way to bolster our own emotional health. To help yourself, start by helping others.
“There is a lot of evidence that one of the best anti-anxiety medications (药物) available is generosity,” said Adam Grant, an organizational psychologist at Wharton and author of Give and Take: A Revolutionary Approach to Success. “The great thing about showing up for other people is that it doesn t have to cost a whole lot or anything at all, and it ends up being beneficial to the giver.”
Our bodies and minds benefit in a variety of ways when we help others. Some research has focused on the “helper s high”. Studies show that volunteering, donating money, or even just thinking about donating money can release feel-good brain chemicals and activate the part of the brain stimulated by the pleasure of food. Studies of volunteers show that do-gooders had lower levels of the cortisol(皮质醇),a stress hormone on days when they did voluntary work.
In fact, the act of giving advice has been shown to be more beneficial than receiving it. In a series of studies of 2,274 people, researchers from the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Chicago found that after middle school students mentored younger students about studying, they ended up spending more time on their own homework. Overweight people who counselled others on weight loss were more motivated to lose weight themselves.
Feeling responsible for other people also can help us cope with whatever challenges life brings. Emily A. Greenfield, an associate professor of social work at Rutgers University, studied a concept called “felt obligation”, which is measured by asking people questions such as how obligated they would feel to give money to a friend in need, even if it meant putting themselves in a bind. Dr Greenfield analysed data collected from 849 participants in an ongoing study of health and well-being that asked about “felt obligation” as well as health-related declines they experienced over time, such as problems carrying groceries or walking a block.
As it turned out, the people who had higher levels of “felt obligation”—meaning they were the type of people to sacrifice something for others—coped better with their own life challenges.
She noted that caring for others helped us to regulate our own emotions and gain a sense of control. “When we remind a friend that social distancing measures are temporary, and this too shall pass, we are also, in effect, reminding ourselves and serving to regulate our own emotions,” she said.
32.What can we learn from the text
A.Donating money can release brain chemicals making people feel good.
B.Giving advice is more beneficial than giving money.
C.Overweight people helping others on weight loss are discouraged from losing weight.
D.People having higher levels of “felt obligation” are less likely to help others.
33.What does the underlined word “bolster” in paragraph 1 most probably mean
A.Improve. B.Maintain. C.Ruin. D.Blow.
34.What does the passage imply
A.A friend in need is a friend indeed.
B.Sunshine always comes after the rain.
C.Helping others is helping yourself.
D.Don t fail to do good things even if they are small.
35.What s the best title for the passage
A.The Challenge for Volunteering

Self-improvement doesn t have to be a terrifying task. It can be a fun and exciting adventure that takes you on a journey of discovery and growth. With some simple tricks, you can transform yourself into a better version of you.
First off, remember that self-improvement is a marathon, not a dash. 36 Take it one step at a time, and enjoy the ride. Think of it like climbing a mountain: you take one step after another, admiring the view as you go, until you reach the summit.
Start with small, achievable goals. Whether it s reading a book a week, going for a daily walk, or learning a new skill, these little milestones will help you stay motivated and feel accomplished. 37
Don t be afraid to fail. Failure is part of the learning process. If you stumble or fall short of your goals, don t beat yourself up. 38 Keep in mind that failure is just a temporary setback—it doesn t define you.
39 Share your goals with friends or family, and ask them to hold you accountable. Join a self-improvement group or find someone who can guide and encourage you on your journey. You ll find that that makes the process even more enjoyable.
And finally, don t forget to celebrate your progress. 40 Whether it s a small accomplishment or a major milestone, take a moment to appreciate your efforts and feel proud of yourself. You can even create a reward system for yourself—maybe a delicious treat or a fun activity for every goal you achieve.
A.Choose your circle wisely.
B.Seek support and inspiration.
C.Instead, dust yourself off, and start out again.
D.Make time for activities that will fuel your soul.
E.No one can expect to change everything overnight.
F.Remember, every step counts, however small it is!

It was one of the hottest days of the dry season. We had not seen rain for almost a month. The crops were dying. Cows had stopped giving milk. The streams were long gone back into the earth. If we didn t see some rain soon we would lose everything. It was on this day that I learned the true lesson of sharing and witnessed the best miracle I had ever seen in my life.
I was in the kitchen making lunch for the family when I saw my six-year-old son, Billy, walking toward the woods. I could only see his back. He wasn t walking with his usual steps. He was obviously walking with great effort...trying to be as still as possible. Minutes after he disappeared into the woods, he came running out toward the house. I went back to make sandwiches, thinking that whatever he had been doing was completed. Moments later, however, he was once again walking with that slow purposeful long step toward the woods. This activity went on for over an hour: walking cautiously to the woods, then running back to the house. Finally, my curiosity got the best of everything. I crept out of the house and followed him on his journey.
He was cupping both hands in front of him as he walked, being very careful not to spill (洒出) the water he held in them. I stepped close as he went into the woods. Branches and thorns slapped against his little face but he did not try to avoid them. He might have a much greater purpose, I thought. As I came closer, I saw the most amazing sight. Several large deer stood in front of him. Billy walked right up to them, at the sight of which I almost screamed at him to get away. A huge buck (雄鹿) went dangerously close. But the buck neither threatened him nor even moved as Billy knelt down. And I saw a baby deer lying on the ground, obviously suffering from heavy loss of water and heat exhaustion, lifting its head with great effort to lap (舔) the water cupped in my boy s hands.
When the water was gone, Billy jumped up to run back to the house. I followed him back to the tap.

This time I joined him, with a small pot of water from the kitchen.

故填are。
故填in。
“which during...(AD 386-534)”为which引导的非限制性定语从句,修饰先行词Cave 254。
根据“it will be a few years”和“they move to bigger cities”可知,此处是指在搬到更大的城市之前要有几年,设空处引导时间状语从句,表示“在……之前”,故填before。

65.a 考查冠词。“ three-episode documentary”为“The Master of Dunhuang”的同位语。
One possible version:
My dream job
Good morning, everyone. I feel it an honor to address a speech titled “My dream job”.
Of the wide range of jobs around us, I will choose to be a teacher. My mother accounts for my choice first. Her commitment to teaching and happiness of being a teacher motivate me. Additionally, it is the inquisitive faces from my future students that reinforce my idea. Last, I am eager to make a difference to those for whom education is their only ticket to success.
Not only will I spare no effort to learn my lessons, but I will also develop some qualities required to be a good teacher.
Thank you!
第二节
One possible version:
When the water was gone, Billy jumped up to run back to the house. I followed him back to the tap. Billy turned it on and cupped both hands. He knelt down, letting the drip slowly fill up his “cup”. And now I knew what was going on. Obviously, he was afraid of being scolded for wasting water, so he avoided asking me for help. When he stood up and turned back, I walked toward him. His eyes were filled with tears, “Mom, I m not wasting.”
This time I joined him, with a small pot of water from the kitchen. I let him tend to the baby deer alone while I just helped fetch the water. As the tears that rolled down my face began to hit the ground, they were suddenly joined by other drops...and more drops...and more. I looked up at the sky. It was as if God, himself, had been weeping with pride. I couldn t believe it was raining!
