Dear Daisy,
Phew! I’m so glad the day is over. I’m really tired, but my first day at school went well.
First of all, we met outside the school building. I was very anxious (焦虑的) because my primary school only had 300 students but in the middle school there are about 1,300. What a difference! The older students are really big. I felt so small waiting there in front of the school.
The head teacher came out and told us to go into the school hall. Then he called our names out to tell us which class we were in. My class teacher is called Mrs Black. She took us to our classroom. It’s on the 5th floor. We aren’t allowed to use the lift! I couldn’t believe it.
We spent all morning with Mrs Black looking at our timetables. Everyone in the school had a different timetable. I’m worried that I’ll forget my timetable and go to the wrong room.
Lunchtime was OK. I had salad, fish and fruit, which were quite delicious and healthy, and then I went to play football with some of the other boys. They were all friendly and I don’t think it will take me long to make friends.
After lunch we started lessons. I had maths and then history, where we started to learn about ancient Greece (希腊) . That looked interesting. I have to do some homework tonight to find out how the ancient Greek people lived, so I’m going to do an Internet search and look it up in the library.
So far so good. I am quite looking forward to tomorrow, even though I’ve got science. I hate science!
Yours,
Jason

I can still remember the first day when I met my best friend. She had just moved to the neighborhood and her grandmother brought her down to meet me. I hid behind my mother and she hid behind her grandmother, scared of looking at each other.
Soon, we lost the shyness and started playing with each other, riding bikes to each other’s house and having sleepovers. In 7th grade she was going through family problems. However, every summer we would sit at each other’s house, watch movies on TV and talk about all the boys we liked.
It was last year that I noticed the problem. She suffered from clinical depression (临床抑郁症), and had to go to a hospital during the day. I was very sorry for her at first. But with the late night calls and meeting each other halfway up the street at midnight, we still stayed in touch. I wanted to be there for her since her new best friend left her, and I knew I still cared about her like a sister.
Yesterday she came to me and said, “I never knew what a best friend was until you were the only person that would stop me from cutting myself and that ever made me feel better about myself and my problems. You didn’t know this but I was trying to kill myself that very night you called me and I was crying. I owe you so much, and you didn’t even know you were helping me. ”
We both cried. And I guess a kind of lesson from my life so far is to never give up your friends. Even if they aren’t as cool as others, or people think they are crazy, they need someone there. If you leave them, you will only be very sorry. So if your friends need you, and you care about them, you should be always there for them.

C.clinical depression D.bad relationship with classmates
30.What would have happened to her friend if the author had not cared about her
A.She would have lost her new best friend.
B.She would have killed herself that night.
C.She would have run away from her family.
D.She would have stayed in hospital for a long time.
31.What lesson can we learn from the story
A.Always care about your friends. B.Don’t care about others’ opinions.
C.Never owe your friends too much. D.Try to be as cool as others.

Most people think that regular (有规律的) exercise does health wonders for people, but what exactly are its health benefits
To start with, research suggests regular exercise can help make people’s body strong. It helps cut down on the number of different diseases people face each year. Regular exercise throughout the year helps the working quality of people’s heart become better and lower blood pressure. During exercise, people’s heart must work harder so that it can make blood go throughout the body. This extra effort makes it grow stronger over the long term. At the same time, as little as 30 minutes per day can help to lower blood pressure. It helps move away things that are all linked to having high blood pressure.
Exercise has a good effect on people’s mind and spirit too. If you are suffering from stress and sadness, regular gentle exercise is one way to improve your full sense of happiness. The way that exercise improves people’s mental state is by moving away the bad effect of stress that swims into their bodies, helping them find deep calm.
Some studies even show that exercise keeps people’s skin fit. Exercise helps keep skin cells alive and healthy by increasing blood flow. Blood carries oxygen and nutrients to working cells throughout the body, including the skin. In addition to providing oxygen, blood flow also helps carry away waste products. You can think of it just like cleaning your skin from the inside.
However, we should know that when suffering from an illness, try not to finish all your plan for exercise. The body needs time to recover. Strong exercise can be harmful to the immune system (免疫系统) when it is already under pressure. Instead, take a gentle walk when falling ill to help recovery.
So, now you know the benefits of exercise and how to do it properly. What are you waiting for

A.By moving away waste in blood. B.By helping them find deep calm.

“Jessie, are you listening ” Mrs. Williamson’s question cut in Jessie’s thoughts.
Jessie turned to her teacher. “What was that ” she asked.
The teacher frowned (皱眉), saying it was the second time that morning that she hadn’t been listening and that she was supposed to do better. Jessie’s face turned red, thinking Mrs. Williamson shouldn’t have said that to her. Jessie couldn’t help it if the bird by her desk was distracting (分心) her.
When the bell rang for a break, the teacher stopped Jessie. “I hope you will think about what I said in class,” she told her. “A rule is a rule. And it’s important for everyone to follow the rules.”
Jessie nodded to show she understood, but she didn’t really take it seriously, still thinking Mrs. Williamson was being too strict. Then she rushed outside to play ball games with other kids. They first picked teams and made the rules for the game. According to the rules, when a team got two outs, they had to go to the outfield (外场).

Dear Chris,
I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble fitting in at your new school. Such problems are quite normal. Perhaps the following suggestions may be helpful.
First, I think you may need to communicate with your classmates as much as possible. In this way, you will get to know each other better. Second, it might be a good idea for you to take part in more activities, which usually involve teamwork and interactions with other students and are therefore good for developing friendly relationships. Lately, faced with some tough problems, you might consider asking your teachers, who can usually offer you some sensible suggestions.
I sincerely hope my advice will be of some help to you. If there is anything more I can do to help, please let me know.
Yours,
Li Hua
67.
Instead of giving Jessie’s team a chance to score, the other team quit. It made Jessie angry and she complained it was not fair. One of the players on the other team said they didn’t enjoy the game but Jessie thought that they had to keep on with the game, reminding them it was one of the rules and a rule is a rule. But as soon as she said the words, she remembered what happened in class. Mrs. Williamson had told her a rule is a rule, too. No wonder her teacher was so strict. Rules were important for everything to be fair.
Jessie went to Mrs. Williamson’s office. Seeing Jessie at the door, Mrs. Williamson was a little surprised. She found Jessie’s face flushed with shame. Jessie apologized and promised to follow the rules in class and she was going to do better from then on. Her teacher smiled warmly and hugged Jessie, saying, “I’m proud of you, Jessie. It is very brave of you to apologize.” Jessie smiled, too. She felt much better, and she understood that she needed to follow the class rules. After all, a rule is a rule!

66.Dear Chris,
I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble fitting in at your new school.
Yours,
Li Hua
