Sport is not only physically challenging, but can also be mentally challenging. Criticism (批评) from coaches, parents and other teammates, as well as pressure to win can create too much anxiety or pressure for young athletes. Pressure can be physical or emotional and research has showed that it can lead to burnout Burnout has been described as dropping out of or stopping an activity that was at one time enjoyable.
The early years of growth are important years for learning about oneself and the sport setting (环境) is one where valuable experiences can take place. Young athletes can, for example, learn how to cooperate with others, make friends, and gain other social skills that will be used throughout their lives. Coaches and parents should be aware, at all times, that their feedback to youth can greatly affect them. Youth may take their parents and coaches’ criticisms to heart and find faults in themselves.
Coaches and parents should also pay attention that youth sport participation (参与者) does not become work for children. The result of the game should not be more important than the process of learning the sport and other life lessons. In today’s youth sport setting, young athletes may stress (强调) more about who will win instead of enjoying themselves and the sport. Following a game, many parents and coaches focus on the outcome and find faults with youth’s performances. Positive support should be provided regardless of the criticism. Research shows positive support encourages and has a greater effect on learning than criticism. Again, criticism can create high levels of pressure, which can lead to burnout.
24. What is the main idea of the first paragraph
A. Pressure should be made less.
B. Sport can be mentally challenging.
C. Mental pressure should be reduced.
D. Sport should be made less competitive.
25. Why is sport important for young people according to the passage
A. It can remind them to criticize themselves.
B. It can help them learn more about society.
C. It can provide them with valuable experiences.
D. It teaches them how to set realistic goals for themselves.
26. What should parents and coaches do according to the passage
A. Pay more attention to letting children enjoy sports.
B. Help children to win every game.
C. Train children to deal with stress.
D. Make children understand the positive aspect of sports.
27. What’s the author’s purpose of writing the passage
A. To teach young athletes how to avoid burnout.
B. To tell young children not to worry about criticism.
C. To stress the importance of encouraging children in sport.
D. To discuss the skill of putting criticism and encouragement together.
C
Imagine you’re at a football game when this rude man sits next to you. He’s loud, he spills his drink on you, and he makes fun of your team. Days later, you’re walking in the park when suddenly it starts to rain heavily. The same guy from the football game offers you an umbrella. Do you change your mind about him based on this second meeting, or do you go with your first impression and write him off
Related research suggests that we’re quick to form lasting impressions of others based on their behaviors. On the one hand, learning very bad, highly immoral (不道德) information about someone usually has a stronger influence than learning very good, highly moral information. This is because immoral behaviors can better show a person’s true character.
On the other hand, when forming and updating our opinions about others, people tend to give more importance to behaviors that are seen as less common. When thinking about others’ actions, certain areas in the brain will become active. This brain activity is connected to how often people think these behaviors happen in daily life. In other words, the brain tries to decide if the person’s behavior is common or unusual. There’s a good meaning in this data: your brain, and you, might care more about the very bad, immoral things another person has done compared (比较) to the very good, moral things, but it’s a direct result of the comparative rareness of those bad behaviors.
In the situation with the rude-football-fan-turned-good-person, your brain says, “Well, in my experience, pretty much anyone would lend someone their umbrella, but the way this guy acted at the football game, that was unusual.” And so, you decide to go with your first impression.
Think about the last time you judged someone based on their behavior, especially a time when you really feel like you changed your mind about someone. Was the behavior that caused you to update your impression something you’d expect anyone to do, or was it something totally out of the ordinary
28. What does the underlined words “write him off” mean in paragraph 1
A. Ignore him. B. Forgive him. C. Accept him. D. Follow him.
29. Why do bad behaviors have a stronger influence
A. They are more memorable.
B. They are seen as less common.
C. They could form lasting impressions.
D. They better present a person’s true nature.
30. Which of the following is your final impression to “the man”
A. Noisy. B. Impolite. C. Kind. D. Careful.
31. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text
A. The importance of first impressions.
B. A rude-football-fan-turned-good-person.
C. How to leave a good impression on others
D. What will influence your impression of others
D
The cold, wet weather of winter often puts out any wildfires that are still burning, but not in the far North areas, such as Alaska, Canada, and other parts of North America. Some forest fires just don’t die in these places. Think of the fires as “zombies” (僵尸): Scientists do. When summers are warmer than normal, some fires can hide through the winter. They bum dead plant matter and soils under snow. In May 2021, scientists reported their work to a scientific journal. The scientists saw that zombie fires are rare but they could become more common as the world warms, the study warns.
“Some years, new fires were starting very close to the previous year’s fire,” explains Rebecca Scholten. She studies Earth and environmental sciences at Vrije University Amsterdam in the Netherlands. The new fires made scientists wonder how often fires might survive the winter. The scientists started by combing through firefighter reports. Then they compared these with satellite images of Alaska and northern Canada. The scientists looked for fires that began close to fires from the year before. They also focused on blazes starting before the middle of summer. Random lightning or human actions spark most fires in the area, Scholten says. But those fires happen later in the year.
Zombie fires accounted for less than 1 percent of the total area burned by fires from 2002 to 2018. But it changed from year to year. Take 2008, for example. A zombie fire burned Alaska that year. It caused almost one-third of fire damage that year. One clear pattern emerged: Zombie fires were more likely to happen after very warm summers. High temperatures may allow fires to reach more deeply into the soil. Such deep bums are more likely to survive to spring.
The zombie fire threat could grow. The climate is warming. Forests in the far North already are warming faster. “We’re seeing more hot summers and more large fires and intense burning,” Scholten says. Plus, zombie fires could cause more issues. The fires release huge amounts of greenhouse gases. These trap heat in the Earth’s atmosphere. The atmosphere is a layer of gases that surround the Earth. Scholten’s research could help fire management. Firefighters would know to check for them after warm summers.
32. What may lead to zombie fires according to the passage
A. wet weather B. hotter summers C. low temperatures D. cold winters
33. What can we learn about zombie fires from Paragraph 2
A. Where flames broke out provided the clue.
B. Changing climate plays a role in the zombie fire threat.
C. Zombie fires are less likely to happen after very warm summers.
D. It is of little use comparing firefighter reports with satellite images.
34. What conclusion will be possibly made based on the last paragraph
A. It is important to understand zombie fires.
B. Zombie fires are likely to be under control soon.
C. Firefighters cannot do much to stop the zombie fires.
D. We still have much to learn about the warming climate.
35. Which of the following could be the suitable title of the passage
A. “Zombie” wildfires do great damage to land
B. “Zombie” wildfires release greenhouse gases
C. “Zombie” wildfires sparked by human actions
D. “Zombie” wildfires reappear after wintering underground

“Surprise!” was the first thing I heard when I opened the door. My family and friends were all smiling at me. There were colorful balloons all over the house, a big poster saying “HAPPY BIRTHDAY”, and of course a cake with 12 candles. It was a wonderful feeling, I knew that I had finally turned twelve and I might possibly get the thing I wanted most.
I saw my mom and dad coming towards me with a small box which seemed to be a birthday present. When I opened the box, I couldn’t believe my eyes. I had really gotten a mobile phone! Throwing myself into their arms, I let out a cry of joy, “Thank you! I love you guys!” “You’re welcome. We knew this was going to make you happy but we didn’t only get you this because you turned twelve, but also because you are doing well in school. We expect you to keep getting good grades.” “Of course I will.” I said confidently.
As soon as I got to school the next morning, I was showing off my phone and asking everyone for their number. It was cool how I got so many contacts on the first day. It felt like I didn’t even exist in that class anymore. I wouldn’t pay much attention to the teachers because I was too busy on my phone. However, I didn’t get caught using it.
I am pretty sure that the teacher did notice that I stopped paying attention to her because a week later we took a test and I failed. What was worse, my mom had to sign the test.
It was hard to show my mom the test. She was used to seeing A’s and B’s on my tests. Finally, I showed it to her, and she couldn’t believe it. She was angry but most of all, she was disappointed.

Realizing why I failed, my parents started to dislike that I had a phone. They said they had noticed that I never paid attention to them. It was like I had my own little world. So they thought we didn’t communicate as much with my phone. They regretted having given me a phone, which made me ignore the family and study. Then I started to wonder if I was wrong. A week later I tried going a whole day without a phone and it didn’t go that badly. I had so much fun because I was actually spending time with my family and paying attention to them.
From that day, I had a different opinion towards phones. Phones really take you away from the rest of the world. I am not saying that phones are bad and not to use them, but you do have to spare some time to spend with your family and not get stuck with your phone all day.
阅读A篇

对比文中四处旅游景点的酒店价格, Grand Bahama Island, The Bahamas标题下最后一句“There are hotel rooms at $80 a night. (有每晚80美元的旅馆房间。)”;Madeira, PortugalSri Lanka标题下“Visitors can find hotels starting at $85 a night(游客可以找到每晚85美元起的酒店)”;Dominican Republic标题下“you can find hotel deals starting at $33 a night.(你可以找到每晚33美元起的酒店优惠。)”;Sri Lanka标题下“Do you want to spend just $25~50 a day (你想每天只花25~50美元吗 )”可知,Sri Lanka可以订购最便宜的客房。故选D。
阅读B篇
24.B 25.C 26.A 27.C
根据第一段“Sport is not only physically challenging, but can also be mentally challenging. Criticism (批评) from coaches, parents and other teammates, as well as pressure to win can create too much anxiety or pressure for young athletes. Pressure can be physical or emotional and research has showed that it can lead to burnout (精疲力竭). Burnout has been described as dropping out of or stopping an activity that was at one time enjoyable. (运动不仅是身体上的挑战,也可以是精神上的挑战。来自教练、父母和其他队友的批评,以及获胜的压力会给年轻运动员带来太多的焦虑或压力。压力可以是身体上的,情绪上的,或心理上的,研究表明,它可以导致倦怠。倦怠被描述为放弃或放弃一项曾经令人愉快的活动。)”可知,第一段主要讲的是体育运动对精神的挑战。故选B。
25.细节理解题。根据第二段“The early years of growth are important years for learning about oneself and the sport setting (环境) is one where valuable experiences can take place. (成长的早期是了解自己的重要时期,而运动环境是一个可以产生宝贵经验的阶段。)”可知,年轻人喜欢运动是因为它可以为他们提供宝贵的经历。故选C。
26.推理判断题。根据第三段“In today’s youth sport setting, young athletes may stress (强调) more about who will win instead of enjoying themselves and the sport. Following a game, many parents and coaches focus on the outcome and find faults with youth’s performances. (在今天的青年运动环境中,年轻运动员可能更担心谁会赢,而不是享受自己和运动。在一场比赛之后,许多家长和教练关注的是结果,并对青少年的表现吹毛求疵。)”可推断,家长和教练正确的做法是让孩子们享受体育活动。故选A。
根据第三段“Positive support should be provided regardless of the criticism. Research shows positive support encourages and has a greater effect on learning than criticism. Again, criticism can create high levels of pressure, which can lead to burnout. (不管批评如何,都应该给予积极的支持。研究表明,积极的支持比批评更能鼓励和促进学习。同样,批评会产生巨大的压力,从而导致精疲力竭。)”可知,作者通过陈述压力对孩子参加运动的诸多负面影响,使父母和教练意识到只有多鼓励、少批评,才能让孩子喜欢体育运动。可推知,作者写这篇文章的目的是强调鼓励孩子的重要性。故选C。
阅读C篇
ADBD
根据文章第一段“Do you change your mind about him based on this second meeting, or do you go with your first impression and write him off (你会因为这第二次会面而改变对他的看法吗,还是根据你的第一印象write him off?)” 故选A。
根据文章第二段“On the one hand, learning very bad, highly immoral (不道德) information about someone usually has a stronger influence than learning very good, highly moral information. 读后续写
