Xu Xiake was born in present-day Jiangsu Province in 1587. He was a great geographer as well as a traveller in the Ming Dynasty.
Xu was fond of reading when he was young. He especially enjoyed reading books on geography and history. In order to know more about the motherland’s mountains and rivers, Xu began his journey at the age of 22. He overcame many difficulties and travelled throughout China on foot for more than 30 years.
What he saw and heard was recorded in the book The Travel Diaries of Xu Xiake which made great contributions to the world geography.
