It’s time to go back to high school. Students are excited about the new beginning. But for many kids, the first day is more about friends than classes, and maybe with good reason. On that day, the teacher takes attendance(考勤), hands out books, and describes the teaching plan. If a student hears the same things in seven classes, you can’t blame(责备) them for thinking it’s going to be another long year. When the high schoolers’ parents ask what they did in school, it’s pretty likely that the answer will be “Nothing.”
It doesn’t have to be this way. Kids always want exciting changes, and you can give them a taste of how appealing your course will be. One English teacher asks students to write 77 words about what they want to get out of her class. Then she reads their responses out aloud. She keeps the responses until the last day of the school year. Finally she hands them back to students so that they can see if they achieved what they wanted. After encouraging kids with a year-long game, she begins the English course.
On the first day of science, a teacher gives students 30 minutes to build something to improve people’s lives. A history teacher organizes a debate on whether Swiss cheese is better than cheddar. In math class, another teacher puts students in groups of three, and gives them six minutes to come up with as many answers as possible to the question, “What is math good for ”
The new class activities are part of our school wide movement to improve the first day of classes. Many teachers choose to use creative ways to encourage kids from day one. And all students seem to enjoy the changes. Quite a few parents told me that their kids said, “I think English (or math or biology or Spanish) is going to be great!”
24.Which best describes the class on the first day of school in Paragraph 1
A.Too boring. B.A bit strange.
C.Really wonderful. D.Quite challenging.
25.What does the underlined word “appealing” in Paragraph 2 probably mean
A.Confusing. B.Ordinary. C.Attractive. D.Unfamiliar.
26.What will the students find out in English class at the end of the school year
A.If their writing skills have improved.
B.If their expectations have been realized.
C.If they can understand the 77 words.
D.If the teacher likes their responses
27.What do the teachers in Paragraph 3 have in common
A.All try to organize different debates.
B.All ask students to work in groups.
C.All hold discussions on teaching plans.
D.All choose to do something exciting.

I first visited the UK on a vacation as a curious 15-year-old in 2013. The rich culture of London, the beautiful highlands of Scotland and the sunny beaches of Wales deeply attracted me. I decided then that I wanted to carry on my university education in the UK.
Fast forward to 2016 and I arrived at the University of Bristol. The first couple of weeks were great. But after my first month, I started missing my parents, my little sister, the food and the warm, sunny weather.
There was also another problem. Having always studied an Indian curriculum (课程), which is objective, learning based and strict, I found it difficult to adjust to several aspects of the British education system. The freedom of choosing which lectures (课) to go to, the highly subjective and thought-encouraging discussions at tutorials (辅导课) and a large amount of reading I was expected to do caught me off-guard.
It was not until my first end of term exams were over in January 2017 that I could show down and think carefully about the things that I was doing wrong and the things that I got right. The week after my exams ended, I realised how little time I had spent outside the university libraries and my living place.
So I tried new cafes in Clifton, and going for walks near the famous Clifton Suspension Bridge. I also started watching British TV shows. And I evolved socially too. I finally found the societies I wanted to join. I also realised the importance of staying in touch with my tutors and not being afraid of needing and asking for help. I made some amazing fiends in Bristol. Had it not been for the people around me, my first year would not have been as good as it was.
Overall, my second term ended on a much more relaxed and happier note than the first. I wrote my final exams in May and, before I knew it, I had finished my first year of university.
28.What was the author’s first visit to the UK like
A.Impressive. B.Eventful. C.Romantic. D.Risky.
29.What problem did the author face after arriving at the University of Bristol
A.She didn’t have much freedom when choosing lectures.
B.She was unprepared for the new way of studying.
C.She couldn’t keep up with her classmates.
D.She found it difficult to read in English.
30.Which of the following did the author consider important for her after her first exams
A.Staying in touch with her family.
B.Spending time at the library.
C.Building strong relationships.
D.Learning English through TV shows.
31.What would be the best title for the text
A.The UK is a wise choice for studying abroad
B.My first experience of culture shock
C.Education is the key to success
D.My first year as an international student

The first typewriters were big heavy metal machines that worked a bit like a piano. Have you ever seen the inside of a real piano You press a key and some levers( 杠杆) make a small tool inside hit just the right piano string to make a note. Early typewriters were similar. They had all these levers with a metal letter at the end of each of them. You had to press a letter key quite hard to make the metal lever fly across and hit the paper.
The first machine did have the letter keys in the order of the letters we learn. But the trouble was that if you hit two keys quickly the levers would jam(卡住). Jams were most likely when the two keys were close together on the keyboard.
Christopher Sholes, an American inventor, succeeded in dealing with the problem. He tried many ways to avoid the need to type two keys that were close together. The best way he could find was similar to the QWERTY keyboard we all use today.
Sholes also made the name of his machine easy to type. He placed on the same line all the letters of the words"type"and "writer".He sold his invention to the Remington Company which built and sold the first successful typewriters.Later, many other kinds of the letter keys have been tried. Some are said to be easier to learn or faster to use. But none has proved good enough to beat QWERTY.
QWERTY was developed for the English language. The keyboard slightly differs around the world. For example AZERTY is commonly used for French, QWERTZ for German, and QZERTY for Italian. Perhaps you can find someone from India, Japan or Korea. Ask them to show you the keyboard they use in their language.
32.What is the author’s purpose in writing the first paragraph
A.To explain the difference between the typewriter and the piano.
B.To show how the piano influenced the typewriter.
C.To tell why the typewriter was invented.
D.To explain how the early typewriter worked.
33.Why did Christopher Sholes change the order of the letters on the keyboard
A.To make people type quickly.
B.To solve the jam problem.
C.To help people remember it easily.
D.To put frequently used letters together.
34.What do we know about the QWERTY keyboard from Paragraph 4
A.It was doubted at first.
B.It still needs to be improved.
C.It's better than other keyboards.
D.It made the Remington Company successful.
35.What is the main idea of the last paragraph
A.The keyboard is changing over time.
B.The word "QWERTY"is out of date.
C.The QWERTY keyboard is very popular.
D.The keyboard changes with some languages.
