Love pushes us to overcome various struggles in life! The reason why Keith Limbert learned to drive at his old age was a touching love story, as he was forced to face the lessons for driving a car for his wife. 79-year-old Keith from West Yorkshire put all his efforts into passing the driving test, so that he could take his wife for treatments every day.
Even though he had attempted (尝试) driving when he was 25, he couldn’t get through the first two tests. Since then, his loving wife Anne had always driven him around. However, when 58-year-old Anne’s health took a turn for the worse, he had to go back to the driving school again.
After Anne had a stroke (中风) in 2015, leaving her in a wheelchair, the couple had to rely on others for their travels. Annoyed with many difficulties, Keith realized that it was time for him to take up learning to drive again. Eventually, it became a necessity when Anne was diagnosed (诊断) with breast cancer in late 2016.
Unfortunately, his wife’s condition required regular trips to and from hospital and he was Anne’s full-time caregiver. He loved his wife so much that he did his best to pass his driving test on the third attempt. This time, his hard work paid off. Keith passed his driving test at the age of 79, so he could take his poor wife to hospital by himself.
Now this loving couple is leading a comfortable life and on most days, he takes himself to the gym and takes his wife for a coffee.
“I don’t feel like I am 79 at all,” Keith is happy to keep his youthful spirit with a pleasant smile on his face.

People who work with their hands may have more job security in 2023 than those who depend on technology. A leading expert in the field of artificial intelligence, Professor Wooldridge, explains that those manual (体力的) workers, such as construction workers, are likely safe from the expansion (扩张) of AI.
“There are lots of examples of the huge range of technologies which will make people’s lives better,” Professor Wooldridge said. “But the ‘importance of people’ in carrying out a lot of jobs has been underestimated by modern society. There are an awful lot of jobs which really require human understanding and having a human there is really important. I’m not as pessimistic (悲观的) about AI and jobs as most media has showed.”
However, Professor Wooldridge warned that the new technology would be a “damaging force” for employees who perform duties like taking phone calls. “A type of job I’m worried about is call center operators. If your job is to understand what people are telling you but you are more or less following instructions that you’ve been given, this kind of job is easily affected when artificial intelligence steps onto the stage.”
A 2022 study found automation is partially responsible for a drop in US industrial jobs. Previous research has estimated a loss of 420,000 to 750,000 jobs during the1990s and 2000s, most of which were manufacturing jobs. Despite that, Professor Wooldridge says the technology is far from capable of performing manual labor roles. He suggests that the technology like robots is indeed taking jobs from humans, but at a much lower rate than most assume.
A recent study found that only 14 percent of workers in their study have lost their jobs to a robot. As Professor Wooldridge said, people are generally quick to vastly exaggerate (夸大) the rate of robot takeover.

Children who are given opportunities to manage money when they’ re young are more likely to be financially responsible as they enter adulthood, says a new study from Brigham Young University.
The study, led by Dr. Ashley LeBaron-Black, surveyed over 4,000 young adults, asking a series of questions in order to understand how they learned money management from their parents during childhood. The results of the study found that while it was important for parents to talk to their kids about money management and to model good financial behaviors, these efforts alone weren’t enough to prepare children to become financially responsible young adults. The most effective thing a parent can do is to provide experiential learning opportunities for their children, allowing them to manage their own money and practice making financial decisions.
Allowing children to manage money can be intimidating for parents at first, but LeBaron-Black suggests parents relax and start with simple activities. For example, a young kid could be given a simple 3-slot (三个投币口的) money box to store their money: one slot for savings, one for giving, and one for spending. As they grow, children can practice budgeting (预算), saving for short-term goals like a bike, saving for long-term goals like college, spending money wisely, and opening savings or other investment accounts.
“Keep trying, even when it seems difficult,” said LeBaron-Black. “Parents need to know that setting children up with a strong foundation (基础) of money management takes time. In the years to come, the small efforts you’ re making are going to pay off for your kid.
“It’s a pattern that can apply to many aspects (方面) of parenting. Discussions are necessary, but verbal (口头的) teaching alone is not enough. When parents give children opportunities to make their own choices and experience the results, whether positive or negative, children will be much better at making choices throughout their lives,” LeBaron-Black explained.
