whom the Chinese people are proud of 是定语从句,修饰先行词explorer。关系代词whom在从句中作介词of的宾语,可用who代替,也可以省去,但当把介词提前时只能用whom而不能用who。

辨析:dead/die/death/dying
①dead adj. 死的 eg. The poor man is dead.
②die v.死亡,断气”。
eg. A year later my dog died. 一年后我的狗死了。
注意:die 表动作,是终止性动词,不能与时间段连用。
他的祖父已死了两年了。
His grandpa died two years ago.
=His grandpa has been dead for two years.
③ death 是名词,用来作主语、宾语等。
eg. Her grandfather's death made her sad.
④ dying 既是die 的现在分词,也是个形容词,表示“濒临垂危”“要死”之意。
