In December 2006, a polar bear, Knut, was born at the Berlin Zoo in Germany. The zookeepers didn’t know that this cute baby bear would cause such big changes for the zoo.
Knut was different from other polar bears in two ways. First, his mother would not care for him or feed him. So Knut was raised by humans. Second, he was quite playful with people and very easy to take photos with. Knut became the star of the zoo. Because of Knut, the zoo made more money in 2007 than in any other year. Many visitors came to see Knut and bought toys, DVDs, and books about him. Newspapers called him “Cute Knut”, and there were photos of him on magazine covers worldwide.
As time passed, Knut grew bigger. He wasn’t as cute as before. The once-cute baby bear became a full-size bear, weighing more than 300 pounds! And as Knut grew, his problems came too. He began to cry if nobody stood near his pen. This was a sign that he became too accustomed to having a group of people around him. Also, zookeepers could not get close to Knut any more. They were worried that he would hurt them by accident. Knut went on to live at the zoo, but he was no more a star.
Nobody knows what the future holds for Knut. Some people think he should have a polar bear to live with. Some people worry that his unusual way of growing up will keep him from living a normal life. At the same time, zookeepers go on to look for ways to keep Knut safe and happy.

Honesty is a good thing. But does Mother Nature agree Animals can’t talk but can they lie in other ways
Animal experts may not call it lying, but they do agree that many animals, from birds to chimpanzees(黑猩猩), behave dishonestly to fool other animals. Why Dishonesty often helps them survive.
Many kinds of birds are very successful at fooling other animals. For example, a bird called the plover sometimes pretends(假装) to be hurt in order to protect its young. When a predator gets close to its nest, the plover leads the predator away from the nest. How It pretends to have a broken wing. The predator follows the “hurt” adult, leaving the baby birds safe in the nest.
Another kind of bird, the scrub jay, buries its food so it always has something to eat. They are also thieves. They watch where others bury their food and steal it. But clever scrub jays seem to know when a thief is watching them. So they go back later, dig the food, and hide it again somewhere else.
Chimpanzees, or chimps, can also be sneaky. After a fight, the losing chimp will give its hand to the other. When the winning chimp puts out its hand, too, the chimps are friendly again. But an animal expert once saw a losing chimp take the winner’s hand and start fighting again.
Chimps are sneaky in other ways, too. When chimps find food that they love, such as bananas, it is natural for them to cry out. Then other chimps come running. But some clever chimps learn to cry very softly when they find food. That way, other chimps don’t hear them, and they don’t need to share their food.
As children, many of us learn the saying “You can’t fool Mother Nature.” But maybe you can’t trust her, either.

A.A tourist guide. B.A physics book.

Four kinds of friends
I once believed that a friend is a friend “all the way”. Now I have changed my ideas about friendships.
Friends of convenience(便利). They can be the people who live next door or the mothers of our children’s closest friends. They will help us when we need it. They will look after our cats when we go on holiday. But we don’t ever get too close or tell too much. We keep our public face and emotional(情感的) distance, which means that we’ll talk about being overweight but not about being happy or sad. However, people still feel these friendships valuable(珍贵的) to them.
Special-interest friends. These friendships aren’t deeply personal or emotional. Their value lies in some shared interest, so we may have an office friend, a tennis friend, or even a shopping friend.
Historical Friends. We all have a friend who knew us well when…, maybe we were back in the second grade of primary school, when our family lived in that two-room flat downtown. He or she was the first, the only friend we told our secrets to.
The years have gone by, and we have gone different ways. We have little in common(共同)now, but we are still a personal part of each other’s past. We know how we looked before our teeth were straightened, and our getting together helps us remember an earlier part of ourselves, which is important and never lost.
Cross-generational(代) friends. These are friendships that from across generations. I have in my own life a precious(珍贵的) friend, a woman of 65, who is wise, who listens well, and who represents(代表) not only an ideal mother to me but also the person I’d like to be when I grow up.
Best friends, I believe, totally love, support and trust each other.
77 of friends Descriptions of friends
Friends of convenience They can be the 78 or the mothers of our children’s closest friends. They can help us when we are in 79 . Though we don’t talk about emotional topics, this doesn’t mean that there isn’t any value to be found in these friends.
Special-interest friends We usually 80 some interests with our special-interest friends, so we may have an office friend, a tennis friend, or even a shopping friend.
81 friends This kind of friendship was usually formed when we were 82 . Although we don’t have 83 in common now, we are still a personal part of each other’s past. Our getting together reminds us of each other’s happy old days.
Cross-generational friends Cross-generational friends usually aren’t from the 84 generations. A friend like this may represent a(an) 85 mother or the person I’d like to be when I grow up.
Conclusion: Best friends need to love, 86 and trust each other totally.
