whose ideas are very influential . Born in the
country of Lu in 551BC , he came from a family
which was very poor and was brought up by his
mother. He founded the philosophy called
Confucianism, in which he stressed the importance of kindness, duty and order in society. For many years he was given an important position
by a ruler who followed his ideas and made
contributions to his government. Later he spent
the rest of his life establishing private schools ,
