Exercising regularly not only helps you keep slim, but also improves your overall health and well-being. Different exercises produce different results, as they focus on alternate parts of the body. There are four broad exercise categories: endurance, strength, flexibility, and balance. Many people often only focus on one exercise type, but including all four in your workout will produce better results and reduce your risk of injury. Endurance
Endurance exercises increase your breathing and heart rate. By doing endurance exercises, you are working to keep your heart, lungs, and blood-flow system healthy while improving your total fitness. Over time these activities will make everyday activities seem easier.
Strength
If you want to build up your muscles, then strength exercises, which are also known as "resistance training", are right for you. Even the slightest increase in strength can make a huge difference in your ability to carry out daily tasks. Developing strong muscles also reduces your risk of weak bones.
Flexibility
Flexibility exercises help stretch your body's muscles. This allows for more freedom of movement for other exercises and can also improve your range of motion, posture, ability to breathe deeply, and blood flow. Also, it reduces the muscle tension caused by stress.
Balance
Balance exercises help prevent falls and are especially important to older adults, helping them stay independent. Most good balance exercises are ones that keep you constantly moving with your feet on the ground. Heel-to-toe walking and standing on one foot are simple ways to improve balance.

When a hurricane hit her hometown, Karen Lauder chose to stay at home because she didn’t know how strong the storm would be. Karen was 84 years old and depended on a wheelchair to get around because she was missing a leg. Her son, Johnny Lauder, tried repeatedly to get her to leave, but she refused.
Johnny and his whole family live within a few blocks of one another. They kept in touch with Karen as the storm continued violently (猛烈地) outside, watching the water rising dangerously all around them. When Karen reported that the water in her house had reached her bottom, Johnny knew he had to take action.
First, Johnny ensured his sons and their pets were taken care of. Then, he jumped out of a window and began to swim. Johnny used to work as a rescue swimmer. He is obviously a strong swimmer, but the flood water was filled with dangerous materials. There was also a strong current (水流), and he had to swim against it for most of his trip to Karen’s. As he made his way through the water, Johnny stopped periodically to snap selfies (自拍) to show his worried family that he was okay.
Johnny was racing against the clock. He knew he only had a short period of time to get there before the water rose above Karen’s head. It took him 40 minutes to swim four blocks. The sound of Karen shouting inside was music to his ears!
"If it would’ve been 20 minutes later, she wouldn’t be here," Johnny said. "She’s never been happier to see me."

Are you looking for something exciting in your life? How about trying a new hobby that gets your heart racing?
You might enjoy running, right? Well, then you’re already on the right track to becoming a trail runner It is not so hard as you think. All you need to do is just taking your runs off the pavement and explore some hilly or mountainous trails. There’s no age limit for this sport, and it can be a great way to build confidence and overcome fears. For example, Sarah, a young girl from a small town, started rock climbing at the age of 12 and has since fallen in love with the sport. She says, "Every time I reach the top of a climb, I feel a sense of success that’s hard to describe."
Some people take their adventures to even greater heights by trying wingsuit flying. In this extreme sport, participants (参与者) wear a special suit that allows them to fly through the air like a bird. It requires a lot of training and courage, as there are significant risks involved. However, for those who are interested in it, there is no feeling like flying freely.

As a saying goes, love your neighbor as yourself. Yet we all struggle and often come up short in loving our neighbors. Too often we miss the opportunity to be available to our neighbors in need of help and care. When a neighbor approaches, we may concentrate too much on our own problems or care too much about our loved ones to realize that we’re not paying attention to the neighbor.
Although we know loving our neighbors is the right and moral thing to do, it takes courage to live it out. It means stepping out of our comfort zone. Jill Briscoe, an author, tells a story about when she heard gossip that her neighbor’s husband had left her. She knew the neighbor casually. When they spoke, they talked about the weather. She realized that in her community most people didn’t know each other.
Jill struggled with what to do. Finally, she gathered the courage to walk over and pay a call. When her neighbor opened the door, Jill shared that she had heard on the grapevine that her husband had left. Could she do anything? The woman burst into tears and said, "Come in, come in." Jill spent the entire morning listening, putting her arm around her neighbor and having coffee. It was the start of a relationship.
In these challenging times, let us choose to be the neighbor our faith calls us to be. When we do, love wins and makes the world a better place for everyone. "All of us, at some time or other need help. Whether we’re giving or receiving help, each one of us has something valuable to bring to the world. That’s one of the things that connect us with neighbors — in our own way, each of us is a giver and a receiver," said Fred Rogers, who created and hosted the preschool television series "Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood".
12. Why are we not paying attention to the neighbors?
A.They are familiar to us.
B.They always trouble us.
C.We are not willing to do so.
D.We care about our loved ones more.
13. What effect did Jill’s visit have on her neighbor?
A.Anger
B.Happiness
C.Embarrassment
D.Comfort
14. What can be inferred from Fred Rogers’ words?
A.Nobody is a lonely island in life.
B.Giving help means receiving help.
C.It is easy to know about the neighbors.
D.Good neighborhood relationship is beneficial.

Johnhas been working hard to achieve his dream.
44.答案: pretended ; to ; be; doing
解析: "pretendto be doing sth."
45.答案: didn’t; lose; heart
解析: "lose heart" 是固定短语,意思是"灰心",前面提到"Tom failed again and again",后面又说"he made it at last",从逻辑上需要表达出他没有灰心的意思,并且句子时态是一般过去时,所以填"didn’t lose heart"。
46.答案: dates; back; to
47.答案: as; if/though
No; matter; where
49.答案: despite; her ; efforts
解析: "in spite of" 的意思是"尽管",它和"despite" 意思相近,并且后面都是接名词或者名词短语,"her efforts" 就是名词短语,所以可以把"in spite of her efforts" 转换为"despite her efforts" 来实现同义句转换。
50.答案: was; in ; shock
解析: "be shocked at" 意思是"对…… 感到震惊",它可以转换为"be in shock" 来表达同样的震惊的状态,句子是一般过去时,所以填"was in shock" 来完成同义句转换。
I still don’t know the reason why he is absent from school today./I still don’t know the reason for which he is absent from school today.
It was what you said just now that made her upset.
It makes no difference to me what he will do next.
