Wheelchair basketball is becoming more popular in South Sudan. The sport offers hope for athletes
with disabilities.
U.S. professional wheelchair basketball players recently helped 80 South Sudanese players in a
week-long training program and competition. Among them was Malat, a Sudanese- American wheelchair
athlete.
Malat was three years old and living in South Sudan when he lost the use of his legs due to polio. He
lived in a refugee camp for several years. When he was 12, his family moved to the United States. He later
played wheelchair basketball at the University of Arizona.
At last, he returned to South Sudan as a role model for other disabled athletes. “I went through the

The fast development of AI-generated (AIGC), especially AI translation, is accelerating(加速) the
speed at which China's online novels are being introduced to the world, while global online writers tend to
flock to a common platform to expand the world's online novel market, according to the 2023 China Online
Literature Exporting Overseas Trend Report.
"Online literature not only brings Chinese culture and works to the world, but also witnesses the
global development of this Chinese model," said Hou Xiaonan, president of China Literature.
After going through publishing authorization (授权), overseas translation and exporting models
overseas, China's online literature has reached "a new stage of global IP co-creation as writers from
different countries and regions work together to develop online literature IP", which has led to a new wave
of globalization in online literature, he added.
Since October 2023, WebNovel, an overseas website owned by China Literature, had launched about
3,600 translated works of Chinese online literature and 610,000 overseas original works, said the report.
The platform has been visited by more than 220 million users, who spend more than 1.5 hours daily on
reading. More than 150,000 comments are usually made in a single day, including exchanges about works
and discussions about the cities, food and culture from various countries.
With the help of AI, the translation efficiency of online novels has increased by nearly 100 times, and
the cost has been reduced by more than 90 percent. Due to these advantages, the platform WebNovel will
introduce AI translation for English, Spanish, French, Japanese and other languages, to help good Chinese
and foreign stories to reach a wider international audience, said Yang Chen, editor-in-chief of China
Literature.
Chinese online literature has been exported overseas for more than 20 years. It has shared with the
world not only excellent cultural works, but also a set of creative mechanisms and industrial models based
on the digital age. As such, global industrial integration has become a significant trend in the development
of online literature.

From ancient myths to modern research, the label attached to being left-handed is undeniable.
Left-handed people, or "lefties" as they are often called, are generally believed to be good at art—Leonardo
da Vinci, Picasso and Michelangelo are all left-handed. But what exactly makes someone left-handed or
right-handed
Our brain is divided into two parts: the left hemisphere, and the right hemisphere. The left hemisphere,
linked to logic and analysis, is responsible for the right side of the body. The right hemisphere, linked to
creativity and imagination, controls the left side of the body. So people tend to believe lefties are controlled
by the right side of the brain, and are more creative than right-handers. Some also think that lefties may not
be as good as right-handed counterparts in mathematics and problem-solving skills.
However, a study carried out by scientists from the University of Liverpool in the UK and the
University of Milan in Italy proved this theory wrong. The study involved more than 2,300 students in Italy
aged between 6 and 17 years old. They were asked to complete several mathematical tasks of different
levels. It turned out the left-handers outperformed the others when the tasks involved difficult
problem-solving. This pattern was particularly clear in male adolescents. It was also discovered that those
who are "severely" right-handed performed less well in all the experiments compared to "moderate"
right-handers and left-handers.
"Taken together, these findings show that handedness does influence abilities to some extent," the
study's authors wrote. "Nevertheless, handedness is just an indirect expression of brain function," wrote
psychology professor Giovanni Sala from the University of Liverpool in the UK, the lead author of the
study. Sala also noted that only one third of people with a highly-developed right side of the brain are
left-handed. It means that there are lots of right-handed people with a similar brain function as left-handers.
32. Why are left-handed people usually believed to be more creative
A. Because their left side is controlled by the creative right hemisphere.
B. Because their left hemisphere of the brain is more developed.
C. Because they have a special gene for creativity.
D. Because they outperformed others at art.
33. What did the experiment in paragraph 3 discover
A.There was no difference between left-handers and right-handers.
B.Male adolescents performed worse than female adolescents in all tasks.
C.Left-handers always performed better than right-handers in all experiments.
D.“Severely” right-handed people were outperformed by all other groups .
34. What can we infer from the passage
A. Not all left-handed people have a highly-developed right side of the brain.
B. There is no relationship between handedness and mathematical performance.
C. Being left-handed is what determines a person's creativity.
D. All right-handers have similar brain functions as left-handers.
35. What is the best title for the text
A. Left-Handed: Naturally Smarter B.Left-Handed: Beyond Common Belief
C.Left-Handed: Superior Creators D. Left-Handed: The Genius Marker

How to Cope With Stress at School
No matter if you’re in junior school or senior school, it’s natural to experience school-related stress.
36 Here are several strategies that will set you on the right track.
Get to know your stress response.
You can react to stress faster when you know it’s coming on. 37 Your shoulders might tighten,
your jaws might clench, your palms might get sweaty, your stomach might feel knotted up, your body
might start shaking, and so on. Listen to your body so you know when stress is coming on. In that way, you
can better identify(识别) what’s causing your stress and more effectively manage your stress.
Identify what fuels your school stress .
It’s hard to manage stress when you don’t know what’s causing it. It’s not enough to say that “school”
is causing you stress—dig a little deeper! Is it too much homework, worries about grades, lack of sleep,
lack of free time, peer pressure, bullying, some combination of these, or something else entirely 38
Make a schoolwork schedule.
39 Instead, plan out your time to help prevent your work from piling up. Stick to a daily
schedule to keep things manageable so you're never left with a tower of work to conquer by tomorrow. This
way, you can not only reduce stress but also enhance your productivity and efficiency.
Divide your work into manageable pieces.
Set aside blocks of time for each thing you need to do. If you have a 10-minute presentation on Romeo
and Juliet due next week, for example, you might feel like it’s an impossible task. 40 Spend one
day making an outline, for instance, then another making your poster. Keep reminding yourself that it's not
one giant project — it's a bunch of little, manageable ones.
A. Each person responds to stressful situations differently.
B. When you feel the stress building up inside you, take a break
C. But school stress is also something you can successfully manage.
D. Never feel ashamed to talk about your school stress, and you can successfully manage it!
E. It’s really not an easy job to stay calm when you have piles of homework staring back at you!
F. Instead of stressing over the entire thing, break it up into smaller tasks you can knock out one at a time.
G. Once you’ve identified the source(s), you can come up with targeted stress-management solutions.

Dear David,
Hearing you encounter some difficulty when planning to hold an activity called Into Chinese Characters, I’m
writing to offer some relevant suggestions.
To hold the activity successfully, it is advisable to organize a Character Storytelling Session. In this activity, you
can share fascinating stories about the origins and meanings of various Chinese characters. This will not only educate
participants about the language but also immerse them in the rich history and culture of China. Additionally, a Chinese
character dictation competition would be an excellent choice, which not only improves participants' writing skills but
also sharpens their memory of characters.
I'm confident these activity forms will contribute to the great success of your event. Eagerly anticipating the
wonderful outcomes of your activity.
Yours,
Li Hua

Jess
故选 A
The fast development of AI-generated
(AIGC), especially AI translation, is accelerating the speed at which China's online novels are
being introduced to the world",可以看出是 AIGC 的快速发展,尤其是 AI 翻译,加速了中国
故选 A
故选 A
33. D 推理判断题 解析:第三段明确指出“It was also discovered that those who are'severely'
right-handed performed less well in all the experiments compared to'moderate' right-handers and
34. A 推理判断题 解析:文中第四段提到“only one third of people with a highly-developed
right side of the brain are left-handed”,这意味着并不是所有左撇子都有着高度发达的大脑右
Left-Handed: Beyond
common belief(左撇子:超出常规认知)”这个标题最能概括文章内容。A 选项“Left-Handed:
D 选项“Left-Handed: The Genius

觉难以完成,F 选项 “Instead of stressing over the entire thing, break it up into smaller tasks
you can knock out one at a time.”(不要对整个事情感到压力过大,把它分解成你可以一

Text 10
Thanks for the introduction back at our news station, Ariel. I’m John, reporting from a small
town in the Chinese countryside. I’m visiting this village because it is a new tourist area. (17) Now,
tourists worldwide are coming to see its unique buildings and history.
The local characteristic buildings, (18) also called Diaojiaolou in Chinese, have a long history.

were built to prevent animals’ attacks at the beginning. (18) Now buildings and streets are both
protected well by local people. That makes a deep impression on me. (19) Also, this town has an
exciting culture. Local people have passed on traditional art and foods from generation to
generation.
As this village has become more popular, many visitors have brought opportunities to create
businesses and spread culture. Next, we will talk to one of these shop owners about their art and
items. He’s already told us about this town’s beauty. Plus, he explained that October and the rest of
fall is the most popular time for tourists. (20) Here he is now.
