Three cute brown bear cubs who got lost after getting separated from their mother gripped the hearts of netizens.
The fuzzy cubs were spotted by Gelek Gyatso, an ecological protection officer, when he was patrolling a riverbed at an altitude of nearly 4, 500 meters in Qumarleb county in Qinghai province’s Yushu.
The little cubs eagerly ran toward the ranger on the snow-covered riverbed, then stopped short at a safe distance to stare at him curiously. After realizing that the man was not their mother, the bear cubs turned around and ran along the river calling for mom.
This was Gelek Gyatso’s first encounter with bear cubs separated from their mother. With his knowledge of wild animals, he drove the cubs towards an area near their cave in the hope of a safe reunion. Thankfully, later that day, other patrol officers found that the mother bear had reunited with her cubs and that the family was happy and healthy.
This year marks Gelek Gyatso’s tenth year as an ecological protection officer. He patrols the area every day, diligently records the animals he sees, carefully checks on the vegetation, and helps clean up litter.
Over the decade, Gelek Gyatso has witnessed great changes in the ecological environment of his hometown. There has been an increase in the number of wild animals, and everyone is participating in the protection of these species, making coexistence between humans and animals more harmonious.
He also reminds people that if they encounter wild animals in the wild, they should keep their distance, not disturbing or feeding them, and that if they find an animal that needs to be rescued, they should call the fire or forest department in time.
4. What happened to the three bear cubs
A. Losing track of the mother bear.
B. Following Gelek with curiosity.
C. Mistaking a man for their mother.
D. Being trapped in the cold riverbed.

A. Changing their living surroundings.
B. Feeding and sheltering wild animals.
C. Getting involved in saving endangered species.
D. Seeking professional help to rescue those in need.
7. What is the best title for the text
A. A project of wildlife conservation
B. A journey of friendship connection
C. A knowledgeable ecological officer
D. An encounter leading to a safe reunion

If you struggle with insomnia (失眠)— and, consequently, the bed-covers—you probably have been tempted to try anything that promises better sleep. One thing might sound a little strange but has been known to work: adding a weighted blanket to those bed- covers. “It has become the sleep tool to have,” says Alanna McGinn, founder and lead sleep expert at Good Night Sleep Site. “I’m a huge supporter because it can work so well.”
About 32% of Americans don’t get enough sleep, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Experts there recommend at least seven hours of shut-eye per night for adults. But as many as 35% of adults have trouble sleeping from time to time, and 10% regularly have trouble falling and staying asleep.
The weight—usually between 5 and 30 pounds which sounds like a lot but is spread out over the entire bed—comes from plastic, glass or metal balls surrounded by filling. The heaviness imitates a touch therapy called deep pressure stimulation. Just as swaddling babies can send them to sleep, using a weighted blanket helps your heart and breathing slow and your body release feel good hormones, including serotonin.
A 2020 review looked at eight studies and concluded that weighted blankets helped reduce anxiety but not necessarily insomnia. Other research tells a slightly different story. A study in Sweden in 2020 looked at 120 people with insomnia and also depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety or attention-deficit/ hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Those who used a weighted blanket reported that they had better sleep and were less tired, anxious and depressed during the day.
People with circulatory conditions such as diabetes, or breathing issues such as asthma or sleep apnea (窒息), should check with their doctor before using a weighted blanket. “And if you’re someone who gets a little claustrophobic, it’s probably not the best thing for you,” adds McGinn.
8. What will people with insomnia probably do
A. Tend to be cheated. B. Struggle to drop asleep.
C. Work for the sleep tool. D. Be cautious about the blanket.
9. What is the second paragraph mainly about
A. The severity of sleep trouble. B. Americans suffering insomnia.
C. Sleep difficulty caused by aging. D. Experts’ advice on sleeping hours.
10. Why does the author mention “swaddling babies” in paragraph 3
A. To define a concept. B. To present a result.
C. To explain the principle. D. To draw a conclusion.
11. What can be inferred about the application of the weighted blanket
A. It can extend people’s lifespan.
B. It can help people feel more relaxed.
C. It is friendly to people with breathing issues.
D. It is a request to get the doctor s permission.
D
Nile crocodiles are uniquely sensitive to the cries of painful primate (灵长类) babies, according to a new study — and the more anxious the cry, the more interested they become. To make the find, Nicolas Grimault, a scientist at the University of Lyon, and his colleagues visited a zoo in Morocco, which houses more than 300 Nile crocodiles. The researchers set up loudspeakers alongside four ponds where, at each, as many as 25 crocodiles sunbathed on red rocks. The speakers played a series of cries expressing varying levels of pain from primate babies. The cries were recorded in different situations to find out which aspects of the voices interest the crocs most.
Many of the crocs, male and female, responded to the cries by suddenly turning their heads, seeking out the source of the sound, rapidly approaching the loudspeaker and sometimes even biting it. One individual even showed protective behavior by positioning in front of the speaker as if to defend it from others. Interestingly, their response depended on the characteristics of the cries they heard: crocs were more likely to react to recordings with acoustic (声音的) features closely related to very upset babies, such as sudden changes and disharmony in frequency, smoothness and tones.
When the researchers asked human volunteers, all of whom had experience with human babies, to listen to the same recorded cries and estimate the level of pain, the participants used different features than the crocs did to evaluate the sounds, basing their decisions largely on the pitch of the cries — how high or low a sound is. But it varies among individuals and across species. That makes it less reliable and accurate than the alternative acoustic clues picked up on by crocodiles.
The findings of the study raise the possibility that emotion may be communicated across species lines in more ways than scientists thought. As Grimault puts it, “If crocs can do it, probably many other animals can do it, too.”
12. Why are the cries collected from different situations played
A. To discover which crocodiles are smart. B. To identify what appeals to crocodiles.
C. To develop how to protect crocodiles. D. To record when crocodiles interact.
13. How do most of the crocodiles respond to baby’ cries
A. Guarding the speakers. B. Sunbathing on the rocks.
C. Attacking other crocodiles. D. Moving towards the sound.
14. Which of the following belongs to “alternative acoustic clues” in paragraph 3
A. The volume of sound. B. The source of the cries.
C. The evenness of tone. D. The pitch of the voice.
15. Which statement would Grimault probably agree with
A. Humans are sensitive to voices of other species.
B. Emotions may be shared beyond species borders.
C. Crocs tend to be friendly to babies of any species.
D. Cross-species communication is an unfading skill.

David was a windsurfer, who was serious and hardworking. He dreamed of becoming a city champion of the annual Teenager Windsurfing Race. To achieve it, he barely missed a single game or practice whatever the weather. After months of intense training, the big day finally arrived!
The beach was crowded with the excited audience, including reporters and photographers. The speaker system was announcing the names of the windsurfers, calling them to get ready for the race. And there was David, in a line with other windsurfers, all of them moving nervously up and down on the waves behind an imaginary starting line. They were all fighting for the best position to start and were tense as a result, ignoring the vast sea they were on.
The moment the starter’s signal sounded, David was off, so natural and quick. He pulled hard at his sail to race just ahead of the group. As he picked up speed, gliding (滑行) over the waves, he felt the familiar joy and freedom that windsurfing always gave him. What he loved was simply being out at sea. He could hardly stop himself from shouting out in excitement, rushing to the finishing line for the first.
“Go! David!” The wind carried over a familiar voice. He looked around and spotted his elder sister Jessica on her speedboat upwind of him cheering for him. She waved at David and he nodded his head in acknowledgement, even though he knew she was too far away to see him. Just as he turned away, however, out of the comer of his eye, he saw smoke behind the speedboat, on the shore. Knowing that the smoke could tell him the direction the wind was blowing, he decided to study it for a moment out of habit. Just as he was getting a better sense of how to use the wind to his advantage, he saw it.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Not just the smoke but a big fire!

【答案】
Not just the smoke but a big fire! David couldn’t believe his eyes. It occurred to him that it was from a restaurant where he once did a part-time job and that all the staff might be among the audience. He looked back at the beach, where all of the audience were too attentive to the race to be conscious of the fire. It was then that he made a resolution to turn around, passing by the other windsurfers and racing towards the shore, rather than the finishing line.
The other windsurfers were far ahead of him at that time. Apparently, this promising teenager had withdrawn the Race. Many confused people who noticed his strange behavior also spotted the shocking smoke and fire on the shore. The teenager rushed towards the fire, followed by many adults, including the staff. More hands made light work. They put out the fire before it was too late, minimizing the losses. Due to his contribution, the organizing committee awarded David the sportsmanship Award. All the audience applauded him for his acceptance speech: “I don’t regret losing the chance of becoming a champion to help others.”
