Aarrav Anil, the 17-year-old student with a passion for robotics from Bengaluru, invented a smart spoon that can help people with Parkinson's disease eat with dignity.
Aarrav's interest in creating a smart spoon came from seeing his uncle Arjun who has Parkinson's disease struggling to feed himself. This disease affects the brain and leads to involuntary shaking. Hence, food kept spilling out of his mouth and onto his clothing.Aarrav wanted his uncle to be able to eat by himself with dignity.
Aarrav took to his room with microcontrollers, motors, sensors and a 3D printer. Not everything went smoothly.“It was frustrating not to be able to find the tiny electronic parts I needed here in India. I had to order some from China, but they took ages to arrive,” Aarrav said. Through tireless efforts, Aarrav made a first model but the handle was too slippery for his uncle to use so he had to change it. Then the prototype(雏形) went to be tested at the R.V. College of Physiotherapy in Bengaluru.
“I've been fine tuning the design based on the college's feedback—that it needs to be waterproof so that it can be washed without damaging all the electronics inside; and that it must be detachable(可拆卸的) so it can be cleaned and replaced by a fork,” Aarrav said. The trials being conducted at the college are expected to be completed by early 2024 and the results will be published in a medical journal.
Aarrav hopes that his smart spoon will begin to be manufactured on a small scale when the testing is complete. While other smart spoons already exist and two US companies are already producing their own versions, the cost is too high for most Indians. Aarrav's version is estimated to cost around $80. His hope is that everyone with Parkinson's disease will have access to a smart spoon.
24.What can Aarrav's invention help people with Parkinson's disease do
A.Maintain their physical balance.
B.Boost their moods and relieve stress.
C.Feed themselves much more easily.
D.Rid themselves of uncontrollable shaking.
25.What is emphasized about the invention of the smart spoon in Paragraph 3

C.Outlining. D.Simplifying.
27.Which of the following can best describe Aarrav
A.Positive and sociable. B.Ambitious and caring.

Switzerland is set to become home to the world's tallest wooden residential building.
The project, named Rocket & Tigerli, will consist of four buildings, including one that takes pride in a 100-meter-tall(328-foot) tower.
The design will offer modern and high-quality housing with a maximum inflow of daylight, according to its designers from the Danish firm Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects(SHL). It will also seek to create an active neighborhood that will be “rooted in the area's historical context”, according to a press release from the firm. The surface, for example, will be covered in dark red and yellow bricks combined with dusty green-colored details—in keeping with the red roofs and yellow bricks of the older buildings in the surrounding area.
“It is a big project that will have a significant influence on the community, socially as well as aesthetically. Because of the strong special knowledge Switzerland has, when it comes to building with wood, we are particularly proud to be working on this groundbreaking project.”
The four buildings will consist of housing facilities as well as spaces for shopping, a sky bar and a hotel. It is expected to be completed and ready for residents to move into by 2026. The striking architectural project is set to shake the world in 2022.
SHL competed with eight other construction companies around the world to design the building. Earlier this year, its design proposal was chosen as the winner—in part because of its open block structure.
The jury(评委会) said in its assessment, “By dissolving the original block structure and integrating(整合) the separate buildings, a larger surface area is achieved and thus more daylight, as well as a stronger connection to the surrounding environment.”
32.What can be a highlight of Rocket & Tigerli
A.Its residents. B.Its designers.
C.Its tall tower. D.Its different surface.
33.What are designed in the project according to SHL
A.Stores. B.Hospitals.
C.Museums. D.Playgrounds.
34.What can be regarded as the main advantage of SHL's design
A.Its low construction cost.
B.Its short construction period.
C.Its advanced firm management.
D.Its creative construction concept.
35.What can be the best title of this passage
A.World Architectural Styles Need Changing
B.World Architectural Competition Comes to an End
C.The World's Tallest Residential Tower in Switzerland
D.The World's Tallest Wooden Residential Building to Be Built

The Taj Mahal
Shah Jahan finished building the Taj Mahal in 1653. He was a rich and powerful emperor, and he built the Taj Mahal as a memorial to his wife. 36 The word “Taj” means the crown, and “Mahal” was the name of his wife. More than twenty thousand people worked for 22 years to complete this beautiful domed building. After you pass through the gate, you step onto a wide stone platform. You catch sight of another garden with pools. Everything is arranged carefully in fours. 39 The garden is divided into four parts. There are straight rows of colorful flowers and trees in each of the parts. At the four corners of the Taj Mahal, there are pointed tall towers. After the gardens, you go down stone steps towards the main building with the tomb of Shah Jahan and his wife.
After hundreds of years, the Taj Mahal remains a lovely and peaceful place. 40

Sitting back in my seat, I can't quite believe that I'm about to travel along the railway that many foreign experts 41 was “impossible”. The train has been racing along steadily since it left Xining. All this time, the song “Sky Railway” has been playing inside my head. The words “railways like massive dragons are 42 among the mountains” seem particularly vivid as I travel across the “roof of the world”.
I was one of the people who came from all parts of China to work on this railway. Taking years to complete, the Qinghai-Xizang Railway is a record of all of our efforts to 43 the most difficult engineering challenges. How to protect the 44 ecosystem was among the top 45 .
The first landmark to catch my eye is the splendid Qingshuihe Bridge, the world's longest bridge built over permafrost. Look! A group of chiru(藏羚羊) is moving under the bridge, with some stopping to eat grass 46 leisure. Thirty-three passages have been built under the railway to allow the animals to move safely and freely in their natural 47 . Wild animals such as these chiru have now been using these passages for years. They seem totally 48 that we are speeding past at over 100 kilometres an hour.
To prevent damage to wetlands and grasslands, 675 bridges with a total length of about 160 kilometres were built between Golmud and Lhasa. We even moved 140,000 square metres of wetland to a new area in order to protect its 49 ecosystem.
The journey has been flying by, and 50 I know it, we have reached Tanggula Station. 51 at over 5,000 metres above sea level, this is the highest railway station in the world. In locations such as this, the thin air, changeable weather and high levels of UV radiation presented perhaps the greatest challenge for railway workers. To make sure we stayed healthy, several oxygen-making stations were 52 . We were also able to enjoy regular breaks in lower areas.
As we pass Cuona Lake, I feel a sense of 53 and achievement. Using thousands and thousands of sandbags, we built a twenty-kilometre wall along the lake to protect it from construction waste. Cuona Lake is so close to the railway that I want to reach out and touch its pale blue mirror-like surface. Water birds playing in the lake, and cattle and sheep wandering the grasslands bring the scenery to life.
The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau has been attracting people's 54 for centuries. Now, 55 our efforts, passengers from all over the country have been enjoying these magical landscapes. I am proud that we built our “impossible” railway, and did so with the care that the environment deserves. It truly is an extraordinary “Sky Railway”.

Deep in the forest, my husband and I had fun climbing over and crawling under the fallen trees that blocked the dirt path before us. It was May, yet we walked up a snow-covered hill.
When we noticed our jeans were wet up to our knees, it did not dampen(减弱) our spirits. Not once did we say, “Let's turn around.” This was our vacation, and we were on an adventure. Little did we know this was the beginning of many more surprises.
The trail was marked as an easy one-kilometer hike, yet we were already walking a long distance. Our lightheartedness(轻松自在) stopped when we came out into a clearing and saw a parking lot without our rental car in it. As my eyes scanned the surroundings, nothing looked familiar. My heart raced. I realized we were lost in a national park that did not officially open.
Usually, I am the calm one in the relationship, but my husband surprised me with his calmness. This did not comfort me; in fact, it heightened my fear. As we walked, I asked my husband to call for help, but there was no cellphone signals in this isolated area.
It was awfully quiet except for our footsteps hitting the road and my heavy breathing. My husband suggested we conserve energy and walk slower. With each step on the road, my feet and thighs(大腿) hurt while my mind raced with thoughts about people who got lost in the Canadian woods for days.
My vision sharpened. I noticed everything around me:the trees, rocks and snow. I thought we could eat the snow on the ground in case we needed water. For the first time in my life I was ready and willing to get a ride, but we did not meet a single car on the road. Silently, I prayed multiple times. We focused on each other, made joint decisions and connected through gratitude. We managed to stay on the main road and walked straight on.
My husband suddenly spotted a small building on a hill in the distance.

Just then,a friendly woman appeared,saying,“Hello.”

43.D 根据“Taking years to complete”以及“the most difficult engineering challenges”可知,这里指克服(overcome)挑战,故选D。

故选A。

One possible version:
Dear Noah,
I'm really glad that you take great interest in ancient Chinese architecture.
Thousands of ancient buildings have survived from China's history. However, there is no better place to visit than the Forbidden City in Beijing. It served as the royal palace for centuries. Summer is a good time for traveling, so shall we go there on August 1 I believe you'll have a better experience if you know its history. You'd better do some research online, which is of great benefit to you.
Please let me know if you need further information.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
One possible version:
My husband suddenly spotted a small building on a hill in the distance. In no time we found ourselves heading for it. We were filled with hope and excitement to find such a building. We climbed up the hill at a swinging pace as if all the pains were gone. As we approached, a sign came into sight, which read:Administration Office. However, it was not open for business. The empty hall made us nervous all at once. We stood there hopelessly, wondering what to do next.
Just then,a friendly woman appeared, saying,“Hello.” I could barely hold back my enthusiasm and blurted, “We're lost!” She comforted us and provided a room for us to take a break. Seeing we were cold and hungry, she treated us to hot chocolate. After studying the map, we figured out that our car was parked over three kilometers away. She offered us a ride back to our car and we accepted gladly. I felt relieved to see our rental car again. What a blessing it was to have such an unforgettable experience!
