My busiest period comes from November each year, when I will receive a number of emails and texts from friends who want to volunteer with their families on Thanksgiving as a way to give back. I also field phone calls from organizations that want to donate to local programs that provide Thanksgiving meals.
As an official who still works in the nonprofit sector, however, I also feel deeply anxious because I know in the other 51 weeks of the year, these critical programs that provide food access for residents in need are starved for both volunteers and donations. Hunger is a year-round problem, and each week volunteers are the necessary part to ensure that programs are able to serve the community.
At Food For Free, we rely on about 100 volunteers per week, and each of those volunteers is extremely important for providing fresh, healthy food for people in the Greater Boston area who need it. School children who take backpacks of food home on Fridays, community college students who rely on our Family Meals program to get stronger in class, elderly and disabled residents who receive twice monthly deliveries of food to their doors through our Home Delivery program—they all rely on us ensuring enough volunteers show up to do the work. These volunteers don't show up in your social media feeds, they don't win awards and no one writes about them in the local newspapers. But they are heroes. And you can be too.
If everyone made a promise to volunteer once a month, or even once a quarter, I know that we could reduce some of the anxiety those organizations feel, as a more reliable volunteer network allows them to focus on helping people, but not filling volunteer gaps.
You can look through our list of a few organizations which are doing critical work in Cambridge to address food insecurity. Offer your time to an organization, and they will be deeply grateful—and I am going to bet that you will feel pretty good about yourself too.

A.To ask something related to emails.
B.To offer donations to poor locals.

A.The need for fresh food.
B.The duty of Food For Free.

D.The difficult life of local people.
26.What should we learn from the volunteers
A.Showing up in social media.
B.Winning some useful awards.
C.Spreading our life stories.
D.Serving the poor for nothing.
27.What is the author's aim of writing the passage
A.To call on readers to be volunteers.
B.To express thanks to the organizations.
C.To advertise the official programs.
D.To introduce websites of a local charity.

“The first time I came to Zhadong village, I was struck by its natural beauty. The adobe(土坯) homes fit in perfectly with the green environment,” recalls Hansen Nico Rene, a 63-year-old retired policeman. “But when we entered the houses, we found people were poor. There was a fireplace, a table and some chairs.”
The village Hansen visited is in a remote mountainous area in Guangxi's Hechi city. Before coming to Zhadong, Hansen had settled in downtown Hechi for six years. What brought the retiree to Zhadong was a notice recruiting volunteers to aid in the poverty-alleviation campaign in March 2018.At the time of Hansen's first visit, there were still some parts of the village that were not accessible by road. It was a rainy day, but dozens of people were busy in the fields working with cables, bamboo and iron posts, so Hansen went to see what was going on and found out that they were preparing to grow passion fruit to help people out of poverty.
After the visit, Hansen suggested that the village use the land at the back of it to build a farm, and he also participated in the construction work himself. “It was a jungle. We brought in electricity and water, and then we built a small farm. Now there are nearly 2,000 pigs and 200 cows. It is still growing,” Hansen says.
Today, this farm brings over 100,000 yuan in income to the villagers each year. With Hansen's assistance, the village's officials and other volunteer workers developed characteristic industries, including cattle and sheep breeding and fruit planting. Hansen is quite satisfied with his work in the village. “Now everything has changed. The adobe homes have been gone. Today everyone lives in new houses with separate kitchens, living rooms, bathrooms and bedrooms. There is also electricity and Internet connection.”
Hansen returned to the city in May 2021. However, he maintains a deep attachment to Zhadong, and often goes back to the village to see his old friends and promote tourism by sharing pictures of local landscapes and cultural events on social media with his friends in Europe and beyond.
28.What impressed Hansen first when he visited Zhadong village
A.The adobe homes. B.The natural beauty.
C.The friendly people. D.The green lifestyle.
29.Why did Hansen go to Zhadong village
A.To settle there. B.To be a volunteer.
C.To fund a road. D.To grow passion fruit.
30.How did Hansen help out in the village
A.He took part in building a farm.
B.He worked as the leader of the village.
C.He introduced the village to the tourists.
D.He designed new houses for the villagers.
31.Which of the following can best describe Hansen
A.Creative and ambitious.
B.Talented and productive.
C.Devoted and selfless.
D.Cautious and cooperative.

Volunteering means working for free to help someone else. Many teens agree that helping others feels great and makes a difference. These days, more teens volunteer to work for others. They clean up parks, walk dogs at animal shelters or visit the elderly.
Some cities—including Seattle, Chicago, and Washington, D.C.—require high school students to volunteer. Students must volunteer in order to graduate. The student volunteers learn new skills and help their communities.
Many parents subscribe to the idea—they say volunteering helps teens build job skills. But most teens don't want to be forced to volunteer. They say they are busy and volunteering is only fun if it's a choice.
Read both sides of the debate and decide.
Yes
·Volunteering can help teens get into college or get a job.
·Many cities and towns need help. Volunteers can help keep important programs going.
·Not all teens will volunteer if it isn't required. Schools should require students to do all they can to get ready for adult life.
No
·Most teens are already very busy with classes, homework, jobs and sports. Forcing them to do more isn't fair.
·It should be up to each person. Helping out doesn't feel as good if you have to do it.
·Finding a volunteer job isn't always easy. Students shouldn't be kept from graduating because of something they can't control.
32.What does the “No” side think of volunteer jobs
A.They waste students' precious time.
B.They shouldn't stop students from graduating.
C.They won't help teens prepare for their adult life.
D.They are not as important as students' homework.
33.What does the underlined phrase in Paragraph 3 probably mean
A.Argue against. B.Put forward.
C.Look into. D.Agree with.

A.everyone would like to volunteer
B.finding a volunteer job is not difficult
C.volunteering is a must for college students
D.high school students won't graduate if they don't volunteer
35.What does the text mainly talk about
A.Who are best to do volunteer jobs.

C.Whether students should be required to volunteer.
D.What kind of volunteer jobs students should do.

There are frequent reports on the need of volunteers in so many charitable organizations.Sometimes, people don't know how to get started if they want to become a volunteer. 36
When a person is looking for volunteer opportunities and doesn't care about where he volunteers, a good way to look for jobs is through local volunteer centers. 37 They can help you to choose a volunteer position that will take advantage of your work or life experience, and some volunteer positions do interview job applicants or require they have a certain kind of experience before hiring them. Other employers and companies are willing to take on anyone who has enthusiasm for the work.
38 They might want to help at an animal shelter or work in a hospital. The best route may be to contact such facilities and find out what voluntary programs they have available.
It is not always necessary to look at not-for-profit companies to find volunteer opportunities.Plenty of individuals and for-profit companies might benefit from voluntary help too. A volunteer who helps a neighbor with housework can be making a big difference to a community. 39
When a person would prefer to become a volunteer in a more formal way, there are a few tips to follow. Consider looking for volunteer jobs as looking for paid work. It can help to put together a résumé(简历) and a cover letter explaining why volunteering would be personally satisfying. 40 Reading some guides to résumé writing and interviews may help people secure the volunteer opportunity they want.

After college I wanted to make a difference in the world, so I became a volunteer teacher and 56 (send) to Namibia. Honestly, my first choice wasn't Africa, but I was extremely grateful that I had the chance. So with a group of 57 (equal) eager young graduates, I went on my journey.
Schools were quite bare, and the students 58 (have) tiring days, often walking miles barefoot to get to school. With mountains 59 work at home, few 60 (possession) and little opportunity, these children were joyful, which I admired.
This 61 (be) the first time that I had lived abroad in a different culture, simply getting used to the living conditions required 62 big adjustment. I had no electricity, running water, phone or Internet. Imagine no air conditioning at a place 63 the temperature often goes beyond 38 degrees Celsius! On some days it was just too hot for me to move.
However, I could end each day with a 64 (glory) African sunset. And at night, I had a good view of the Milky Way. Before my time in Namibia, I never thought I would survive in such an environment. My experience awakened me to not only the limitations 65 (place) on ourselves, but also our amazing ability to adapt. My Volunteering Experience

Last summer, Hilda worked as a volunteer with dolphin trainers at a sea life park. Her job was to make sure the tanks were free of any items so that the trainers could train the dolphins to fetch specific items. However, one day after cleaning, one of the dolphins, Maya, presented Hilda with a candy wrapper from the tank. When Katherine, the trainer, saw this, she blamed Hilda for her carelessness. Upset but not discouraged by this event, Hilda decided to do some spying on Maya.
The next morning, Hilda arrived at the park early. She put on her scuba gear(水肺潜水装备) and jumped into the tank for her usual underwater sweep. Finding nothing in the tank, she climbed out of the water just in time to see Katherine jumping in on the other side. After what happened yesterday, Hilda knew what she was doing. She watched as Katherine performed her underwater search, but Hilda wasn't surprised when she surfaced empty-handed.
During the tank sweep, Maya had been swimming playfully, but now the dolphin stopped suddenly and swam to the back part of the tank where the filter(过滤) box was located. She stuck her nose down behind the box and then swam away. What was Maya doing back there Hilda wondered. She jumped back into the water and swam over to take a look behind the box, and her question was answered. Hilda then swam across the tank following Maya's path and emerged from the water to find Katherine removing her scuba gear. As Katherine turned around, her mouth dropped open. There was Maya at the edge of the tank with a comb(梳子) in her mouth waiting for her treat.
“Maya! Where did you get that ” demanded Katherine, taking the comb and throwing her a fish. “I know where she got it,” declared Hilda, climbing out of the tank with a handful of wet items. “What's all this ” Katherine asked, obviously confused.
“This is Maya's secret,” Hilda said with a big smile.

Now Katherine realized what had been going on.

A
What We Look for in a Volunteer部分中的“We ask volunteers to commit a half day a week for three to four months, minimum.”
根据Benefits of Volunteering部分中的“Visit all parts of the museum without any charge.”
根据School Programs中的“Volunteers aged 18 and above will support staff in the in-person delivery of workshops to school groups”可知,学校项目的志愿者需要协助举办讲习班,故选A。
B
文中最后一段最后一句“Offer your time to an organization...and I am going to bet that you will feel pretty good about yourself too.” 故选A。
C
根据第一段的“The first time I came to Zhadong village, I was struck by its natural beauty.”
根据第三段的“Hansen suggested that the village use the land at the back of it to build a farm, and he also participated in the construction work himself”和“Now there are nearly 2,000 pigs and 200 cows. It is still growing”可知,汉森通过建造一个农场,发展畜牧业来帮助村民脱贫。故选A。
根据No中最后一段“Finding a volunteer job isn't always easy. Students shouldn't be kept from graduating because of something they can't control.”

故填was sent。
故填of。
故填being。

One possible version:
My Volunteering Experience
Volunteering has profound meaning, not only for the beneficiaries but also for the volunteers themselves.
I had the opportunity to volunteer at a local community center last year, assisting in various activities and events. Through this experience, I witnessed the transformative power of selflessness and kindness. Helping others brought me immense joy and fulfillment, and it also changed my perspective on life.
I learned that volunteering is not just about serving others, but also about growing as an individual and making a positive impact on society.
