From self-driving cars to carebots for elderly people, rapid advances in technology have long represented a potential threat to many jobs normally performed by people.
But experts now believe that almost 50 per cent of occupations existing today will be completely unnecessary by 2025 as artificial intelligence continues to transform businesses. This could put some people's livelihoods at risk.
“Experts predict that 50 per cent of occupations today will no longer exist by 2025 as people will take up more creative professions,” said Martin Chen, Chief Operating Officer of Genesis. “This means that jobs will develop and so will real estate development.”
Workspaces with rows of desks will become completely needless, not because they will not be fit for the purpose, but simply because that purpose will no longer exist, according to the report. “The next fifteen years will see a revolution in how we work, and a corresponding revolution will necessarily take place in how we plan and think about workplaces,” said Peter Andrew, Director of Workplace Strategy for CBRE Asia Pacific.
A growing proportion of jobs in the future will require creative intelligence, social skills and the ability to apply artificial intelligence. “And for most people that will be a route to happiness and fulfillment,” the report states.
Data in the US suggests that technology already destroys more jobs than it creates, as the GDP has been able to grow faster than employment since 2000. A 2014 report by the Pew Research Center found 52 per cent of experts in artificial intelligence and robotics were optimistic about the future and believed there would still be enough jobs in the next few decades.
“The optimists imagined a future in which robots and digital agencies will not replace more jobs than they create,” Microsoft's Jonathan Grudin told researchers. “Technology will continue to break up jobs, but more jobs seem likely to be created. Although there have always been unemployed people, when we had a few billion people, there were billions of jobs. There is no shortage of things that need to be done and that will not change.”
1.What can put some people's livelihoods at risk

A.Self-driving cars and carebots. B.Artificial intelligence.
C.Business. D.Real estate.
2.Why will desks in offices be unnecessary in the next 15 years
A.The desks in workspaces will serve no purpose.
B.The desks will no longer be fit for the purpose.
C.The office revolution will make people rethink their work.
D.The development of technology will remove the need for desks.
3.What will the characteristic of the jobs be in the future
A.Most jobs will use high technology.
B.Most jobs will require social ability.
C.More and more jobs will focus on happiness and fulfillment.
D.More and more jobs will focus on artificial intelligence.
4.What can be implied in what Jonathan Grudin said in the last paragraph
A.There will be billions of people in fifteen years of time.
B.Enough jobs will be created for everyone to choose from.
C.People needn't worry about the job opportunities in the future.
D.Robots and digital agencies will create more jobs than they destroy.

make the most/best of 意为“充分利用”,是固定搭配,故填定冠词the。
be greedy for...
be of+抽象名词=be+该名词的形容词形式。be of importance=be important,故填介词of。
come to a/the conclusion 意为“得出结论”,是固定搭配,设空处后的that引导同位语从句,解释说明conclusion。
be dedicated to意为“致力于……”。
accuse sb. of doing sth.
make contributions to 意为“为……

4.Although/Though/While 考查让步状语从句。

根据第二段的“as artificial intelligence continues to transform businesses. This could put some people's livelihoods at risk”可知,人工智能未来可能危及一些人的生计。
根据第四段的第一句“Workspaces with rows of desks will become completely needless, not because they will not be fit for the purpose, but simply because that purpose will no longer exist, according to the report.” 故选A。

本题易误选B项或D项,根据“there have always been unemployed people”可排除B项,文中只说工作机会不会减少,但没有说每个人都会找到工作;根据“more jobs seem likely to be created”可以排除D项,D项的说法太过绝对。

  本题易误选B项,原因是受B项中“what you like to do”的影响,但考生需要注意后面的状语“in high school”,这篇文章讲的是在大学选择专业的问题,“in high school”显然在时间上不符合要求。
4.A 主旨句。

12.D 根据上文可知,已经超过了约定的时间,作者还没有得到答复,因此开始悲伤和失落起来,结合上文“if I hadn't got this job, I wouldn't have had any more strength”可推知,如果得不到这份工作,作者也没有力气再去尝试了。A.逃跑;B.询问;C.放松;D. 故选D。
