三、阅读理解。(每题2分,共16分)
A
We can see circles, squares and triangles(三角形) everywhere in our daily life. But have you ever thought about their meanings in films
Circles stand for things that are soft and natural. The round shape reminds us of things that appear in nature, like the sun, flowers, raindrops and so on. We can also connect circles with beautiful eyes, babies’ round faces… All these things make us feel happy and warm. This is probably why so many cartoon characters’ bodies are round in shape. Here, round bodies show the characters’ goodness, happiness and friendliness.
Squares show things that are unnatural or man-made, or things that are boring or old-fashioned. In Up, Carl, an elderly man, has a square face and wears square glasses, while Russell, an 8-year-old boy with a round face, always wears round medals. These shapes show the characters’ different personalities. Carl is stubborn (执拗的) and lonely, while Russell is lovely and full of energy.
The angriest shape is the triangle. Every kid who draws a monster(怪物) with awful sharp teeth draws a row of triangles, don’t they That’s because the shape stands for fear, distrust and doubt in some way. Look at the bad guys in cartoons—they are all drawn with plenty of triangles, like Shenggongbao in Ne Zha.
Not only in cartoons, but also in other kinds of films, different shapes are used for the same purpose. So, next time you see a film, try to find the hidden shapes and you will know what the characters are like.
( ) 1. Which of the following characters is probably the friendliest according to the passage
A. B. C. D.
( ) 2. How does the writer explain the relationship between squares and personalities of cartoon characters
A.By giving examples. B. By raising a question.
C.By showing the results. D. By giving the reasons.
( ) 3. Why is Shenggongbao mentioned in Paragraph 4
Because many kids like drawing him.
Because he has a row of sharp teeth.
Because he is a bad character drawn with many triangles.
Because he stands for fear, distrust and doubt in Ne Zha.
( ) 4. What does this passage mainly talk about
What makes heroes in films fascinating.
How to understand different shapes in films.
Why people make cartoons in different colors and shapes.
How to identify bad guys in different films.
B
Is there a way to help people quickly remember some information Scientists say that walking backward might be a good idea to improve memory.
Researchers asked 120 volunteers in an experiment to watch a video. After watching it, the volunteers were divided into three groups. One group was told to walk 10 meters forward. The second group walked 10 meters backward. The third group just stayed where they were. All the three groups were then asked 20 questions about what they saw in the video. The researchers found that people in the backward-walking group generally got two more answers correct than the other two groups.
The result of the experiment(实验) tells that the changes of space have an influence on people’s memory. How does it work When we are walking backward, we see things from a different angle, and we also have to pay more attention to the environment around us to avoid accidents. By doing so, our brains become more active so that we can remember things that happened in the past more easily.
The benefit of walking backward is not only about improving our memory. Compared to walking forward, walking backward is more challenging because it requires more energy in a short time and burns more fat. Besides, walking backward is also less stressful for our knees and keeps our spines(脊柱) strong, which do help to strengthen our bodies.
Next time when you want to improve your memory, why not try walking backward It is as simple as it sounds, but remember to “watch” where you are going and who or what you may knock into.
5. ______

An energy drink is a kind of popular drink with much caffeine (咖啡因), which is marketed as providing mental and physical “energy”. They may also have much sugar or something else.
Whether it's because they taste good or because people just want to feel more alive, energy drinks are becoming more and more popular around the world. According to market study, the sale of energy drinks increased by 73% between 2018 and 2023. Men between the ages of 18 and 34 have the most energy drinks, but it's not just adults buying them. Research done in 2024 by a market research company, called Gitnux, found that about a third of children aged 12 to 17 drink energy drinks often.
It is true that energy drinks have the influences caffeine and sugar provide, such as increased attention and thinking speed, but having energy drinks raises some problems. For example, between 2017 and 2021, the number of energy drink - related visits to the hospital doubled. About 25 percent of college students drink wine with energy drinks, which results in many social problems. Another study shows that the use of energy drinks among children may lead to higher levels of anxiety (焦虑) and stress. This is because the high levels of caffeine and sugar in these drinks can influence the nervous system (神经系统) and sleep, especially those who are under 16. Taking in the proper amount of caffeine is safe for the typical healthy adults. However, it is not safe for children.
Because of this, some health organizations in the US are calling on the stores not to sell energy drinks to people under the age of 18. The UK has also been talking about stopping the sale for some time. While it hasn't been decided yet, many supermarkets in the country have already chosen to stop selling these drinks to children under the age of 16.

These days, people of all ages are under too much pressure. Adults worry about losing their jobs and teenagers worry about the increasing competition at school. But no matter how life is, we must find good ways to relax ourselves. A new kind of relaxing way, Zentangle Method, or simply Zentangle, seems to interest more and more people around the world.
Actually, Zentangle is a way of drawing. But unlike the professional way of drawing, such as sketching (素描),Zentangle can be easily learned by people without a drawing background. The main point of Zentangle, as its creators pointed out, is to help people relax their minds by drawing something simple like a line, dot , or curve . The drawing tools may just include a pencil, a pen, and a piece of paper. People may not have a clear idea of what the final picture will be like, but they will realize how creative they can be after seeing what they draw.
How was Zentangle invented A husband Rick interrupted (打断) his wife Maria while she was working on a piece of art. After that, Maria recalled how she felt when she was adding patterns to her big picture before Rick interrupted her. She thought her mind was relaxed and she cared about nothing but the drawing itself at that moment. Hearing it, Rick knew his wife was going through some kind of "meditation (冥想)". After that, the idea of creating a creative but simple way of drawing was developed by them. At first, they wanted to name the way“Tangle" but finally decided on "Zentangle".
