Teaching Procedures
Step 1: Warming-up (5 minutes)
1. Greet the students and have a free talk with them.
2. Play a short video about different occupations to lead in the topic.
Step 2: Vocabulary Presentation (10 minutes)
Show pictures of different occupations on the PPT and teach the new words
one by one.
Have students repeat the words after the teacher and practice the
pronunciation.
Step 3: 1a Activity (8 minutes)
Ask students to look at the list of occupations on Page 41 and
Explain the instructions clearly: "Rank the occupations from 1 to 12. 1 means the mot interesting and 12 means the least interesting."
2. Give students a few minutes to complete the ranking individually.
3. After that, organize students into groups of four to share and discuss their rankings.
Answer like:I think the pilot is the most interesting and bus driver is
the least interesting
Step 4: 1b Listening Practice (8 minutes)
Before listening, briefly introduce the task and preview the occupations and phrases in the blanks.
Say: "Now, we are going to listen to some conversations. Please listen carefully and fill in the blanks to match the occupations and the plans."
Play the recording for the first time. Students listen and try to fill in the Blanks,check the answers:I am going to study computer science.
3.Play the recording for the second time and match the items.Check the answers.
Sb: I want to be a computer programmer, I am going to study computer science.
Step 5: Pair Work (7 minutes)
1. Ask students to look at the example dialogue on the PPT.
Explain the key sentences and language points: "What do you want to be when you grow up " and "How are you going to do that "
Have students work in pairs to make their own dialogues using the
information in 1b.
Invite several pairs to present their dialogues in front of the class.
Step 6:Thinking (5 minutes)
Lead them to write down their dream jobs and plans. And then share their dreams with whole class. Finally,put their dreams on the blackboard.
Step 7: Summary and Homework (2 minutes)
1. Summarize the key points of this lesson, including the new vocabulary and the "be going to" structure.
2. Assign homework:
Level A: Talk to your best friend, then write a short passage about his/her future plan.
Level B: Find more job words on the Internet.
