I used to be a very self-centered person, but in the past two years I have really changed. I have started to think about other people before I think about myself. I am happy that I am becoming a better person.
I think my change started when I was at Palomar College. At first, I just wanted to get my degree and be left alone. I thought I was smarter than everyone else, so I hardly ever talked to anyone in my classes. By the end of my first semester, I was really lonely. It seemed as if everyone but me had made friends and was having fun. So I tried to change something.
I started asking people around me how they were doing, and if they were having any problems I could help with. A simple "Hey, how are you " often led to a long conversation. I found out that most people were just like me, they were all longing for friendship and human connection. And once I started building relationships, I realized that making friends was not as hard as I thought.
Now, I have friends who I can count on and who can count on me. I have also become more active in different clubs and organizations on campus. I am no longer the self-centered person I used to be.

In some Western countries, many children do chores to get pocket money. They usually start to do this when they are ten years old.
School students have to do homework and study for tests. They don't have much free time on weekdays. So they often do chores on weekends.
Young kids only do easy chores. So they don't get much money. But that's enough for their candy. For example, they can wash the dishes, sweep the floor or feed the pets. When they get older, they can do more difficult chores. They can help wash the car, cut the grass or even cook meals.
Doing chores is good for children in many ways. It teaches them responsibility. Also, they can learn some life skills. And when they get paid, they know the value of money.

My Big Change
My life has changed a lot in the last few years. I used to be very shy and quiet. I was afraid to speak in public and had no special hobbies. I just liked staying at home alone after school. But now I become outgoing and confident. I take an active part in all kinds of school activities and even won an award in a speech competition. I'm also interested in reading. Through reading, I have made many friends who share the same interests and learned a lot of knowledge. The changes are mainly because of the encouragement and help from my teachers and classmates. And reading has broadened my horizons and made me more confident.
