技巧一:细节理解题
例:When you walk by Eric’s home on Balgis Street, downtown Bangkok(曼谷),you will see thousands of books on shelves and on the stairs. Each book is free to anyone who wants it.
“People can borrow, take home, bring back or keep,” says Eric.“Or they can share and pass on to another. But they should just take, take!” He thinks books need to live, and they’re only alive if they are being read.“The act of giving books makes your life meaningful,” says Eric.
06
1.What is Eric’s opinion about books
【答案】He thinks books need to live, and they’re only alive if they are being read.
【解析】根据“He thinks books need to live, and they’re only alive if they are being read.”可知,Eric认为书需要活着,且只有当它们被阅读时才是活着的。

技巧二:推理判断题
例:Wang Maowei,40,comes from Shanxi. He is skilled at making stick puppets(木偶).Since his parents used to work with the Xiaoyi Puppet Troupe(剧团),he fell in love with the art form as a teenager and decided to work for it all his life. When he was 17,he went to Xi’an,Shaanxi Province,to learn puppet-making.Seven years later,he returned to his hometown to work with the same troupe as his parents did.Later,he also passed on his skills and experience to his students.
“To make puppets, you need to have a sense of art.
8
The most difficult part is to keep on working because it can be monotonous and hard work,” Wang said.By his strict standard,it takes at least five years for his students to learn puppet-making.“If a student wants to do better than his teacher,it’s important to be creative,” he said.
Wang is also creative, connecting traditional puppet-making with modern technology. His puppets can do face-changing,a traditional Chinese opera trick. To draw in more young people,Wang has made changes to puppet plays. His troupe now uses background music instead of the singing in local operas. This makes it easier to understand.

1.What is Wang Maowei like
【答案】He is strict and creative.
【解析】根据第二段中的“By his strict standard,it takes at least five years for his students to learn puppet-making.”及第三段中的“Wang is also creative”可知,王茂伟既严肃又有创造力。

“When I reached the bus station,I got to know that the bus to your town couldn’t come,so I returned here.I just can’t leave you here,” she said.“Get in my car and I will take you back to your home.”
“It is a long way,” I said.
“Come on,Sir,” she said.“Let’s go.”
On the way she told me a story.A few days ago, there wasn’t gas(汽油) in her car.
12
An old man drove her up to a gas station and then back to her car.

Nature has many ways to solve problems. We humans
learn a lot from animals and plants in nature. There is a
science about how we copy great ideas from animals and
plants to create helpful products. It is called biomimetics(仿生学).
Some animals such as this sugar glider have wing-like structures(结构) to help them fly from tree to tree.
13
河北中考 · 真题体验
14
When they jump, they spread out their arms and legs to help them fly down easily.Wing-suits,a kind of clothes, can let people experience flying. The idea of these clothes comes from the sugar glider.
Some animals have structures used for self-protection.
An armadillo has a hard cover that can protect it from
other dangerous animals. When an armadillo feels that
it is in danger,it will change into a ball.Once the dangerous animal goes away,it comes out of the ball. The armadillo has taught people to create a backpack with a hard surface.
15
The surface of the backpack protects things inside from being broken.
Plants have helped people come up with amazing inventions, too. Perhaps the best-known example is Velcro(尼龙搭扣).It includes two pieces of cloth. They stick to each other when they are pressed together. Velcro is used on everything from handbags to clothes. The idea of Velcro is from burrs(带芒刺的小果实) of a plant. They have special structures to allow themselves to stick to people’s clothing or hair. They are taken to other places in this way.
16
From these examples, we can see biomimetics is widely used in our daily life. What other problems will nature help us solve in the future Let’s wait and see!

Last week we went on a school trip to a science museum. Ms.Liu, the guide, showed us around a smart home.
We started with the front door. Ms.Liu asked me to ring the doorbell. I didn’t notice the tiny camera that was fixed just above it. After I pressed(按) the doorbell, the camera sent a live video(视频直播) to the home-owners. “They can electronically open the door when they are not at home,” said Ms.Liu.
20
The other thing I couldn’t see on the door was a lock. “There must be one,” I thought. At this time, Ms. Liu took out a smart phone and put it against the door. And it opened. “Oh, the key is on the smart phone.”
After entering the living room, I saw a computer on a table. By using the computer, the owners can control how much energy is used. In this way, they can manage their living cost.
One of the rooms I wanted to see most was the bedroom. To my great surprise, the bed disappeared into the floor at the touch of the smart phone.
21
The window has a smart blind(百叶窗). It can be raised and lowered with a voice.
As I left the smart home, I looked back on what I had just seen. Scientists often say that these products are improving our life. I think the technology in the smart home may make us lazier. However, there is no doubt that it will become more popular in the homes of tomorrow.

When you think of 3D-printing,you may think of small objects. But three companies are working together to print something much bigger. They’re using a giant 3D printer to create what they say is the first two-storey 3D-printed house in the US.
3D-printing has been around for a while. But until recently,it hasn’t been used much for building houses. Now,that’s changing.Several 3D-printed houses have been built in the US,and more are planned.
36
So far,no one in the US has a 3D-printed two-storey house.This 3D-printed two-storey house will be a large,3-bedroom house.
Leslie Lok,who designed the house, says there are special challenges involved in printing a two-storey house with concrete(混凝土).One of the largest is the size of the machine needed for the building. The 3D printer in Houston is massive. It weighs over 12 tons.Ms.Lok says printing the house will take the huge machine about 330 hours. That’s about eight normal work weeks.
37
But the team isn’t in a rush.Though it’s a two-year project, the actual printing didn’t start until last July. The house is now about halfway finished.
They’re using the house as a “big laboratory” to learn more about 3D-printing houses. They want to see how the concrete reacts “under different weather conditions”.They also want to figure out how to make 3D-printing faster and cheaper.Currently,a 3D-printing house with concrete costs more than building a house with wood. That’s partly because the technology is new.
38
With time, the costs of 3D-printing houses will go down.
Ms.Lok says that with 3D-printing,it’s easy to make each house different from other houses. That means that in the future, each house could be created specially for its owners.
But if you want to move into a 3D-printed house, you’ll have to wait. This one has already been sold.
