①Growing up, I always took notes in class by hand. I would copy everything from the blackboard or slide (幻灯片) while listening to the teacher. When I entered college, I noticed that many students were using laptops (笔记本电脑) to take notes. ②A study at Princeton University looked at different note-taking skills. The researchers asked pairs of students to take notes during an online course. In each pair, one student used a computer, and the other used pen and paper. The researchers found that the students performed similarly on fact-based (基于事实) questions. Recently, 16 Chinese online novels have been added to the collection of the British Library. As one of the largest libraries in the world, the British Library holds more than 170 million items (项). It usually collects works that are popular with readers or of high value. Now readers can check the information about the 16 books on the library’s website and borrow printed copies.
This is the first time that Chinese online novels have been included in the British Library. It means that Chinese online literature (文学) is becoming increasingly recognized (认可的) both at home and abroad.
In fact, many Chinese online novels have already been seen in Chinese libraries earlier. In 2019, 10 online novels were added to the collection of the Shanghai Library, and between 2020 and 2022, 144 online novels entered the collection of the National Library of China.
In recent years, Chinese online literature has attracted (吸引) an increasing number of foreign readers. One of the largest online literature platforms (平台), China Literature Group, has seen nearly 100 million readers visit its international website for works that are translated from Chinese. Also, more than 300,000 writers from around the world have created over 420,000 works online.
“It’s surprising that Chinese online novels can be added to the collection of a foreign library,” said Dajun, one of the writers whose work is included in the British Library. “I’m also happy for the achievements of Chinese online literature. It makes me feel that the path (道路) of online novel writing is getting wider.”
