Integrated skills (I)(教学设计)
I. Learning objectives
By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
listen to know how to express one’s opinion of popular history books;
write an article on popular history books;
express themselves freely through listening and reading.
II. Key competence focus
1. Use listening tips to get the right information.
2. Get some useful information to prepare for writing an article on popular history books.
III. Predicted area of difficulty
1. Understand the introduction of Alan’s favourite popular history book through listening.
2. Accumulate some useful words and expressions about writing an article on popular history books.
IV. Teaching procedures
Step 1 Lead-in
T asks Ss the following question.
Do you like reading If yes, what kind of book do you like best and why
【设计意图:通过问答,快速激活学生对本堂课主题的认知。引导学生进入历史书籍这一话题,旨在给后面的听力和阅读文章做好铺垫,让学生能够自然地过渡到本课的学习中去。】
Step 2 Listen and answer
T instructs Ss to understand the listening tip on page 36.
(1) What is paraphrasing
(2) How do we recognize paraphrasing
T asks Ss to listen to the recording for the first time and finish A1 on page 36.
T asks Ss to predict the answers of A2 and finish it by listening to the recording again.
T checks the answers and listens to the difficult points with Ss again.
【设计意图:听前进行听力技巧 recognizing paraphrasing的指导,继续督促学生在听音时抓住表示时间、事件等信号词,训练学生抓取特定信息的能力。听后两两讨论答案,学会向同伴学习,交流听力内容、修正答案,最后老师给出参考答案。】
Step 3 Read and speak
T asks Ss to scan an article about popular history books on page 37 found by Alan and answer the following questions.
(1) According to the historian, why can popular history books attract a wider audience
(2) What is the feature of most academic books
(3) What is the historian’s attitude towards popular history books Use details in the article to support your opinion.

Step 4 Discuss and share
T asks Ss to share something in pairs by asking the following questions.
What do you think of the popular history books
How do you express you opinion of popular history books
·What is the current situation of popular history books
·What is your opinion of popular history books
·What are the features of popular history books
Write down notes from what you have learnt on part A, B and C.

V. Homework
Search some information about the popular history books online and try to write an article on it.
