I. Learning objectives
By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
1. express their opinions about creating a picture using unusual materials;
2. master the skill of writing step-by-step instructions for creating an unusual picture;
3. polish up writing through cooperation in a group;
4. keep a positive attitude towards life.

IV. Teaching procedures
Step 1 Lead-in
1. T shares a picture made by the teacher:
Making an orange picture
At first, you need an orange, some egg liquid, some raisin and two pieces of walnut. To begin with,
empty the orange and then put some egg liquid into it and mix the liquid up. The next step is to steam the orange. It lasts for 10 minutes. Finally, add eyes and mouth by using two pieces of
walnut and some raisin.
2. T asks Ss to answer the following questions:
What image will you create
What materials and tools will you use for your picture
What steps will you take to create the picture

Step 2 Discussing in pairs
1. T asks Ss to talk about their pictures in a group.
2. T presents Ss some useful expressions for their reference and illustrates the way to begin the talk.

Step 3 Sharing
1. T asks some pairs to share their discussion and reminds them to use the useful expressions learned before.
2. T asks the rest of the students to listen carefully to collect creative ideas as many as possible.

Step 4 Writing
1. Planning your writing
T explains the information about the instructions for creating an unusual picture, including the text type, the structure and the language.
(1) Learning about the text type
T: Instructions are the written information that tells readers how to do or use something. This type of writing is supposed to include enough details so that readers can follow easily.
(2) Learning about the structure
T: When writing step-by-step instructions for creating an unusual picture, you can follow the structure below:
·Start with a brief introduction explaining what kind of unusual picture will be created.
· List the things needed to make the picture. You can use a heading like “What you need”, “Things you need” or “Materials and tools” .
· Give well-organized directions under the heading of “What to do”, “Procedures” or
“Directions” . You can use numbers when listing the steps in order. Make sure to include key points and important warnings.
(3) Learning about the language
· Make your sentences short and clear.
· Use the imperative mood or passive voice in each step.

2. Finishing your writing
Pay attention to the content, the structure, the format and the language of your article.
3. Checking your writing
(1) Check your writing and exchange drafts between you and your partner. Pay attention to the
following aspects:
□ Punctuation □ Spelling □ Grammar
□ Choice of words □ Style (formal/informal) □ Structure
(2) Fill in the table of self-review and peer review.
Give answers to the self-review questions and make improvements.

Step 5 Presentation
1. T invites several Ss to show their writings to the whole class.
2. T evaluates their writing in terms of structure, language and handwriting.
3. T asks Ss to give some suggestions to improve the writings.

Step 6 Conclusion
T encourages Ss to create something.
T: As Simonides of Ceos once said, “Painting is silent poetry, and poetry is painting that speaks.” Our life is full of beauty. We can explore the world through both our minds and hearts. Let’s show our imaginations and make the world a better and more beautiful place.
