The story happened on January 31st,1978. Three boys were skating in Montvale, New Jersey when they saw a flying object in the sky. The boys had a good look at the object, for it stayed for nearly five minutes. It was square with round corners. And at each corner there was a yellow light.
Before they talked about what had happened, they noticed a man in a yellow suit cross the road from the field. The boys thought he was the neighbor who often walked in the evening. “Mr. Johnson,” they asked,“did you see that UFO?” Suddenly the man turned to the boys, but it was not Mr. Johnson. He looked more like a hawk than a man. Then, before he could answer, ten other creatures, all in yellow suits, joined him. Each one had large, dark, square holes.
The boys noticed another one—a woman, they believed. She was wearing a short dress and walking down the road. As she got farther away, something even stranger happened. Parts of her body kept going away and coming back again. Finally, the woman disappeared completely.
The boys concentrated so much on the woman that they did not see what had happened to the other creatures before they disappeared.
The boys hurried to the nearest house and after a few minutes’ discussion, they decided to telephone the police. It turned out that no other UFO reports had been made that night, but the boys didn’t doubt what they had seen.

A myth is something that is not correct, but many people believe. There are a lot of myths about the human brain.
One of the biggest myths is that we only use 10 percent of our brains. The next part of the myth is that if we can learn to use the rest of our brains, then we’ll be much smarter. People say this all the time, but it’s absolutely not true! The truth is that although we don’t know everything about the human brain, we know that each part of it has an important function(功能). Modern scientists think the “10 percent myth” ridiculous(荒谬的).
Another most popular myth is about being “right brained” or “left brained”. According to this myth, people who use the right side of their brains are more artistic and creative. People who use the left side of their brains are better at math and science. This is as popular as the 10 percent myth, and it’s also wrong. In 2013, a study at an American university examined the right brain and left brain myth. According to the study, we use both sides of our brains equally(相等地).
It’s true that we use different parts of our brains for different things. We use our left side for language more, and our right side when we need to pay attention. But there is no evidence(证据) that creative people use the right side more, or that scientific people use the left side more.
We’ve talked about myths, so let’s look at a few interesting facts about the brain. First of all, the brain feels no pain. Second, about 75 percent of the brain is made of water. It’s also the fattest organ in your body. Here’s another interesting fact about the brain. Around the time you turn 18 years old, it stops growing.
( )25. We can infer that from Paragraph 2.
A. there are only two myths about the human brain B. we can’t use the rest 90% of our brains
C. every part of our brains has its own function
( )26. The underlined word “This” in Paragraph 3 refers to .
A. the left brain myth B. the right brain and left brain myth C. the use of human brains
( )27. According to the facts mentioned in the passage, may use the
left brain more.
A. Robert, who is learning English B. Kate, who is drawing pictures
C. Jenny, who is designing clothes
( )28. The passage mainly tells about .
A. the growing of the brain B. different functions of the brain C. myths and facts about the brain

The largest ones were two meters across. The society that made them is gone, and no one knows why they were made. Because people have moved the balls,it is difficult to study them. 32.
In June of 1908,there was a large explosion(爆炸) over Russia. The explosion gave off about 1,000 times more energy than the atomic bomb dropped in Japan. It knocked down about 60 million trees over 2,000 square kilometers. People call the explosion “The Tunguska Event”. 33. Scientists are still working to understand it.

Many strange creatures lie deep in the ocean. One of the most mysterious is the giant squid(巨型乌贼). Some had been caught in fishing nets or found washed up on shore. No one had ever seen a giant squid alive up close—or had even gotten a picture of one.
That all changed a few years ago. Researchers got the first pictures of a giant squid alive and swimming in the deep ocean.
Scientists didn’t know just where to look for the squid. It lives in the ocean, about 660 to 2,300 feet deep. Then the scientists had a bright idea. They knew sperm whales(抹香鲸) like nothing better than a delicious squid dinner. Why not follow the whales?Scientists, led by Tsunemi Kubodera, followed some sperm whales off the coast of Japan. Their idea turned out to be correct. Just as they thought, the whales led them to a huge squid.
The squid wasn’t going to come to the scientists. So they used a baited(带诱饵的) fishing line to draw it in. Scientists dropped a remote-control camera into the ocean. Then they used the bait to attract the squid. The trick worked. As the squid went after the bait, the scientists took hundreds of pictures. The squid swam away finally.
In this way, scientists got the first pictures of a giant squid.
