When we arrived in Tournus, Gabriel and I parked our bikes near the wharf and walked to the town square, starving after a 33-kilometer ride. We made it within one and a half hours, which is really something! We planned to get lunch and then bike back to Macon, a city on the Saone River where I was staying with Gabriel’s family for the summer.
It was market day, bustling with locals buying groceries and tourists hunting for souvenirs. We bought a long, thin loaf of bread called a baguette and some Brie, a soft cheese I’m obsessed with. It tastes awesome with the crispy crust of the baguette. While eating, I noticed a girl in a USA Basketball T-shirt smiling at us.
Basketball is popular in France too. You can even watch NBA games on TV. The girl stopped to buy cookies with someone that I guessed was her mom because they looked so much alike. We later saw her and her mom by the river, enjoying pastries(糕点) on a bench near a riverboat named Voyageur, which had docked earlier. Then they boarded the boat. As it was preparing to leave, I spotted a colorful shopping bag on the bench. The girl had left it! Gabriel and I called out to her in French and English, waving the bag. When the girl noticed us, she was surprised but disappointed as the boat began to leave. Gabriel suggested throwing it to her, but I feared it would fall into the river. We had to find another way !
Running alongside the boat, Gabriel learned from a sailor that the next stop was Macon-our destination as well. It would take the boat just under two hours at a speed of 12 knots. Gabriel searched on the phone about the speed. “That’s 22 kilometers-or 14 miles-per hour,” he said. “Do you think we can keep up ” I asked. With a laugh, he replied, “We’re about to find out!”

The girl stopped to buy cookies with someone that I guessed was her mom because they looked so much alike.
Gabriel and I called out to her in French and English, waving the bag.
Gabriel searched on the phone about the speed. “That’s 22 kilometers-or 14 miles-per hour,” he said.

In the pursuit of returning the forgotten bag, we discovered that the power of determination and friendship can overcome any obstacle and bring warmth to strangers' lives.
The adventure of chasing the boat was a testament to the fact that when kindness takes root in our hearts, no distance or difficulty can stop us from doing the right thing.
What began as a simple attempt to return a lost item turned into a remarkable journey that taught us the value of perseverance and the beauty of helping others, making this a day we would cherish forever.
This unexpected chase showed us that in a world full of uncertainties, our choices to act with kindness and determination can create ripples of positive change and connect us in the most unexpected ways.
I threw the bag over my shoulder, and we set off. The sun was high in the sky, casting a golden glow on the river. We pedaled furiously, the wind whipping through our hair. The path was narrow and uneven, but we didn't dare slow down. Our legs ached with every turn of the pedals, but the thought of the girl's disappointed face kept us going. Gabriel shouted words of encouragement, and I nodded, too out of breath to reply. We passed by old fishermen casting their lines and children playing by the water. As the boat disappeared around a bend, we pushed ourselves even harder, determined not to let it out of our sight.
The girl's eyes lit up with astonishment while her mom clapped in delight. When we finally reached the dock in Macon, just as the boat was pulling in, the girl and her mom were waiting. The girl rushed forward, a huge smile on her face. "Thank you so much!" she exclaimed. Her mom hugged us both, tears in her eyes. We handed her the bag, feeling a sense of relief and joy. The mom insisted on buying us ice cream, and as we sat by the river, licking our cones, we knew that this was a day we would never forget. It wasn't just about the bag; it was about the journey and the kindness that had brought us all together.
示范二
I threw the bag over my shoulder, and we set off. The road ahead seemed long and daunting, but our hearts were set on returning the bag. We cycled past fields of sunflowers, their bright faces turning with the sun. Our muscles burned, and sweat dripped into our eyes, but we kept going. Gabriel kept checking the map on his phone to make sure we were on the right track. As we neared Macon, we could see the boat in the distance. We summoned our last bit of energy and sped up. The town came into view, and we knew we were close.
The girl's eyes lit up with astonishment while her mom clapped in delight. When the boat docked, the girl and her mom were standing at the railing, looking expectantly. As we handed them the bag, the girl's mom thanked us over and over. She told us how much the items in the bag meant to them. We grinned at each other, proud of what we had accomplished. This adventure had not only tested our endurance but also strengthened our belief in the power of kindness. We parted ways with warm smiles and newfound friends, knowing that this small act of kindness had made a big difference in someone's day.
