一、阅读理解

Improvements in technology often happen overnight. Some gadgets get smaller and faster. Others are replaced (代替) by newer things like smartphones. They can do hundreds of things. Here are some old gadgets that people used to use.
①
Do you have a landline at home? These are phones that people plug (插入) into their living room walls. Mobile phones didn’t use to be so common at that time, so most families had a landline. But landlines only worked at home. What did people do when they were outside and needed to call someone? They looked for a pay phone! Then, most people had their own mobile phones and many homes no longer had landlines.
②
People today store plenty of information online, or on SD cards. But in the 1980s and 1990s, people used to use floppy disks. The first floppy disks were large, expensive, and not very useful—each disk could store just 175 KB of information! Later, floppy disks got smaller and better. But even the best ones could only hold 1.44 MB. You would need three or four disks just for one song, and about 22,000 disks to match the storage (储存空间) available on a 32 GB phone!
③
It’s easy to take photos today. People often have thousands just on their phones! But photos used to be expensive, and people took fewer of them. To take a photo, you had to buy a roll of film. This allowed you to take about 30 photos. After finishing the roll, you left it at a shop. The shop developed the photos to make them be seen, which you could collect after a few days.
Technology changes all the time, and the gadgets we use today will one day be old. What do you think will be next to disappear?

Technology is the first power!
It is a great joy and a matter of pride to see China’s high technology is brightly shining from the sky to the ground.
It is widely known that China has well developed high speed railway network(铁路网)in the world. Now,the country is breaking its own speed record with the CR450. The CR450 can travel at a top speed of 453 kilometers an hour. Once put into use,it will take just about 2.5 hours to travel from Beijing to Shanghai, which takes at least 4.5 hours at the moment. Even though it can travel so fast,it can also start braking(刹车)quickly, taking just 1.7 seconds, and its noise level keeps low. It creates a safe and comfortable environment for passengers. With the advantages, the CR450 shows China’s leading role and great power to the world.
The AG60E is China’s self developed lightweight two seat electric plane. It is 6.9 meters long,2.6 meters high and 8.6 meters wide. It is mainly designed for pilot training, flight experience, and private travel. It uses an electric power pared with the traditional plane,it doesn’t send out greenhouse gases, and its noise level is much lower. The AG60E electric plane draws the world’s attention, for it is a practice of China’s aviation industry(航空工业) towards air pollution. The AG60E is only a starting point. It is expected to become an important force to achieve green and low carbon development in the field of aviation.

What’s your dream neighborhood like? Recently, forty communities have been chosen as the coolest neighborhoods in the world in 2024. TimeOut, the magazine that has been hosting this event for six years, considers sides like community projects, green spaces, and lively streets.
At the top of the list is Laureles from Colombia. There’s a famous street called La 70 where all the bars and restaurants turn into dance floors when the right music plays. It also has a big soccer gym. You might think this community is quite noisy. But in fact, Laureles is known for being a relaxing neighborhood. Outside of La 70, you can find peaceful parks, streets with lots of trees and many cafes.
If Laureles is a mix of both noise and peace, then Sheung Wan(上环) in Hong Kong, China, is the perfect mix of the past and the present. Once known for its funeral services(丧葬服务), Sheung Wan has become an exciting place. You’ll find old temples and dried seafood shops there. And right beside them, there are cool art galleries(画廊), Melbourne style cafes and stores for designer clothes. Here, you’ll see citywalkers hanging out with their pets in cafes, and older people visiting cheap markets.
As seen in Laureles and Sheung Wan, in 2024, our communities are becoming more global than ever. There’s a rise in culture centers with many uses, new community spaces, and cafes. (2024·四川遂宁中考)As language learners, it’s important to use dictionaries. Paper dictionaries are often great choices for us. They lead us to think in a more exact way. However, with the rapid development of the Internet, many websites and apps offer us information about the language we are learning, so some language learners like online dictionaries better. Here is what some students think of the two kinds of dictionaries.
Lin Tao,14 I like to look up something in a paper dictionary better. Their explanations are so clear that I can understand them better. I don’t think some online dictionaries are believable. There are many incorrect usages which can make us confused.
Wang Lan,15 If we are not good at memorizing English words,we can look up their meanings online very soon. It helps us finish reading the English articles more smoothly. If we are good language learners,we can always learn more in a shorter time with an online dictionary. It saves much time.
Meng Hao,14 My paper dictionary is a great friend for me. Whenever I don’t know the meaning of a new word,I can learn it well by understanding the notes and the example sentences in the paper dictionary.
Tian Xiao,13 I don’t like carrying a heavy dictionary wherever I go. It’s really convenient to learn a language with the help of an online dictionary. We don’t need to spend much time looking up new words. Using an online dictionary makes a more effective learner.

Microplastics(微塑料) are small pieces of plastic that enter and pollute the environment. Microplastics are not a specific kind of plastic, but any type of plastic piece that is less than five millimeters(毫米) in length.
The team, from South Korea’s Incheon National University and Greenpeace East Asia, examined 39 brands of salt from 21 countries. Of these, 28 were sea salt, 9 were rock salt, and 2 were lake salt. Microplastics were not found in three of the samples(样品):refined(精制的) sea salt from Taiwan, China, refined rock salt from Chinese mainland, and unrefined sea salt from France.
Salt made in Asia had by far the most microplastics of all the samples, which has to do with where plastic most often enters the ocean. Nine of the top 10 sea salt are sampled with the highest amount of microplastics that come from Asia.
Actually, microplastics are everywhere. Sea salt and lake salt are made by evaporating(蒸发) water and getting the salt that remains. Plastic waste comes into the bodies of water from rivers, so it’s no surprise to find microplastics in salt. Scientists have been finding microplastics in salt for years, including in salt from countries in Asia, Europe, and Africa. But the latest study goes a step further, finding that looking at where the salt was produced is a good way to find how much plastic pollution is in that country.
According to their results, the researchers said that an adult ingests(摄入) about 2,000 pieces of microplastics in salt per year. But microplastics in salt amount to about 6% of a person’s total microplastics ingestion. Microplastics have also been found in water, fish and both indoor and outdoor air. All together, an adult ingests over 32,000 pieces of microplastics per year. 80% of them come into our bodies with the air.
It’s almost impossible for humans to avoid microplastic pollution.
1.What is microplastic?
A.A kind of special plastic.
B.A kind of polluted plastic.

D.Small harmless plastic.
