背景导读
Background of the story:
This is a true story. It took place in Amsterdam, Holland in the early 1940s after German Nazis had occupied most of Europe. They killed many Jews. To avoid being killed, some Jewish families went into hiding, often with the help of non-Jewish friends. This is what Anne’s family did.
About Anne:
Anne was born on June 12,1929 in Germany. Anne’s father was a respected businessman whose family had lived in the city for many generations. In the spring of 1934, a year after Hitler and the Nazi Party rose to power, the family moved to Holland.
About the Nazi Party:
The Nazi Party ruled Germany from 1933 to 1945. One of their key policies was to kill all the Jews in Europe. When Jews were found, they were sent to concentration camps to be killed. To avoid this terrible fate, some Jewish families went into hiding. It was in July 1942 that Anne’s father made plans to hide his family. Anne’s diary was written during that time.
