Be responsible travelers
While traveling, we often encounter irresponsible behaviors such as littering, vandalism, and noise disturbances. Such actions not only spoil the environment but also tarnish our image.
It is crucial to be responsible travelers, ensuring that we preserve the beauty and integrity of tourist spots for future generations. By respecting local customs and caring for nature, we contribute to sustainable tourism.
I urge everyone to act responsibly, leaving only footprints and taking only memories. Together, let’s make travelling a respectful and enriching experience.

【答案】
Watching her leave, I stood there, thinking about her words. “We only live once.” It hit me like a bolt of lightning. I realized that if I let stutters hold me back forever, I would miss out on countless opportunities. I made up my mind to participate. I started practicing day and night. I recorded myself speaking, analyzed every stutter, and worked on techniques to control my breathing. With each practice, I felt a bit more confident.
Soon, it was the day for my speech contest. Standing backstage, my heart pounded wildly. But when I stepped onto the stage and saw the expectant faces of the audience, I took a deep breath. As I began to speak, stutters did occur, but I didn’t let them disturb me. I focused on the message I wanted to convey. To my astonishment, the audience listened attentively. When I finished, they erupted into thunderous applause. At that moment, I knew that my decision to be brave had paid off, and I had overcome my inner fear, regardless of the result.

At six o’clock sharp the curtain rises at Southside Cultural Center, in Reno. Two hundred audience members, including the mayor of Reno, look to the stage. Dozens of actors break out into the first number of The Lion King.
But this is not a usual production. The gifted actors are homeless children living at the Volunteers of America family shelter in Reno. The children have been given a chance to live their dreams onstage, thanks to volunteer acting coach Nasya Mancini. “I see so much of myself in these kids,” says Nasya. “I tell them their current circumstance doesn’t have to be their destiny (命运). If they are determined, they can do anything they want.”
Determination is something Nasya knows all about. She was born prematurely (过早地) and was given rare chance of survival. But Nasya kept fighting. Her very name means miracle in Hebrew. Nasya was small, but quickly proved that her talents were as big as her will to survive. She started dancing at two. By six she’d been discovered by an acting coach, who encouraged her parents to send her to drama classes. Nasya said being on stage made her spirit come alive. She decided that she was going to be an actor.
However, her enthusiasm didn’t sit well with some of her schoolmates. They teased (嘲笑) her, “You’re a shrimp. You’re not even pretty.” Nasya came home in tears. Her mother hugged her and told her to ignore it. By high school, Nasya was winning awards in theater competitions. She also provided community service by teaching drama to the children at the shelter. Nasya wanted the kids at the shelter to discover the confidence that acting could bring. The best way to do that, she believed, was to put on a big play.
The production was a hit. The kids took several curtain calls. Donations to the shelter kept coming in. Nasya reminds the kids of something she knows with every part of her spirit to be true: Believe in yourself. The world is your stage.

The full moon climbs over the eastern horizon (地平线) and hangs like a huge orange globe in the sky. A few hours later, the moon is overhead but seems to have changed. The huge orange globe has become a small silver disk. What has happened Why has the orange color disappeared Why does the moon seem so much smaller and farther away
The moon appears orange on the horizon because we view it through the dust of the atmosphere. The overhead moon does not really become smaller as it moves away from the horizon. Our eyes tell us that the overhead moon is farther away. But in this position the moon is actually closer to our eyes than when it is near the horizon.
The change in size is a trick our eyes and minds play on us. When the moon is low in the sky, we can compare its size with familiar objects. It is easy to see that the moon is much larger than trees or buildings, for example. When the moon is high in the sky, however, it is hard to compare it with objects on pared to the vastness of the sky, the moon seems small.
There is another reason why the moon seems to shrink. We are used to staring at objects straight ahead of us. When an object is difficult to see, our eyes have to try to focus on it. When we move our heads back to look up, we will try hard again. Looking at something from an unaccustomed position can fool you into believing an object is smaller or farther away than it is. However, scientists do not yet understand completely why the moon seems to shrink as it rises in the sky.
8 What puzzles us when the moon is high in the sky
A. Its shape changes. B. It looks different.
C. Its color disappears. D. It becomes larger.
9. What really happens when the moon floats farther away from the horizon
A. It is nearer. B. It goes farther away.
C. It turns orange. D. It gets dusty.
10. Why does the author mention trees and buildings in Para. 3
A. To suggest that they can catch our attention.
B. To show that they can influence our judgment.
C. To indicate that they are large objects.
D. To show that hey are small on earth.
11. What can we infer from the text
A. The moon is becoming smaller. B. The moon is actually a big orange globe.
C. We do not see the moon as it really is. D. The moon's size changes constantly.
D
The social media platform Instagram once made headlines for limiting likes in an effort to reduce the comparisons and hurt feelings resulting from attaching popularity to sharing content. It’s a small step in the right direction, says Jacqueline Sperling, a psychologist who works with youth who experience anxiety disorders.
Social media has a strengthening nature. The platforms are designed to be addictive. According to the Pew Research Center, 69% of adults and 81% of teens in the U. S. use social media. This puts a large amount of the population at an increased risk of feeling anxious, depressed, or ill over their social media use. But what makes users come back for more even when it can literally make them feel sick
To boost self-esteem (自尊心) and feel a sense of belonging in their social circles, people post content with the hope of receiving positive feedback. When reviewing others’ social activity, people tend to make comparisons such as, “Did I get as many likes as someone else ” or “Why didn’t this person like my post, but this other person did ” They’re searching for validation on the internet. FOMO — fear of missing out — also plays a role. If everyone else is using social media sites, and if you don’t join in, there’s concern that you’ll miss chats, jokes, connections, or invitations, which can create anxiety and depression.
Sperling admits that we can benefit from social platforms to some extent, as they allow people to keep in touch with family and friends all over the globe. Still, she says, the platforms might have opened a “Pandora’s box” as they continue to change more quickly than we can research their impact.
In addition to limiting likes, as Instagram has done, Sperling suggests social platforms consider decreasing mass sharing. They might function more as messaging services by highlighting one-on-one communications. As to individuals, we can monitor our behavior to see how our use impacts us, and how to act as a result.
12. For what reason did Instagram limit likes
A. To relieve anxiety. B. To make headlines.
C. To promote other functions. D. To control online time.
13. What does the underlined word “validation” mean in paragraph 3
A. Gratitude. B. Recognition.
C. Respect. D. Achievement
14. What's Sperling’s attitude towards social media platform
A. Supportive. B. Indifferent.
C. Opposed. D. Objective.
15. What does Sperling suggest about social media
A. Limiting receiving positive feedback. B. Exchange feelings online frequently.
C. Focusing on face-to-face communication. D. Spending more time on social platforms.

I had stutters (口吃), especially when I was nervous. When our teacher announced the upcoming speech contest in our school for this year, I was filled with a mix of emotions—excitement and regret.
When I got home, Mum saw the sad look on my face and worriedly asked, "What happened "
“This year’s speech contest is coming,” I explained. “I...I...”
“Would you like to attend this year ” Mum asked. “You’ve always wanted to give it a try.” Her words reminded me of my experience last year.
Last year when our our teacher announced that there would be a speech contest and everyone interested in it were welcome to join it. I signed up for it at first but I finally gave it up because of my stutters. At the time, my best friend Amy felt really sorry for me and said, “Alice, actually you’re really good at writing a speech. You have the ability to give a speech.”
I sighed. Seeing my hesitation, Mum patted my shoulder to comfort me, saying “Maybe next year.”
“Maybe,” I echoed. Then I told Mum I wanted to go outside to get some air. She nodded with an encouraging smile.
As I walked into the bright sunshine I couldn’t help but think about the speech contest. I wished I felt a little bit braver. But my stomach felt like a little boat tossed in a heavy storm when I imagined speaking with stutters in public.
While I was wandering in the neighbourhood, I met Ms. Smith, who was walking her dog. She has been a warm kind lady with wisdom who often cared about the children in the neighbourhood. Noticing that I was blue, she kindly ask what happened. I told her about the speech contest.
