Step 1 Revising the lecture transcript
T: Now read through the lecture transcript carefully and complete the article.
Many natural wonders and human civilization are (1)________ (fascinate) but in danger so that UNESCO (2)________ (struggle) to preserve them since its establishment.

Step 4 Understanding the complex sentences
T: Owing to the length and complex grammatical structure, some sentences in the text are hard to understand. However, if you can find out the main body of the sentence, it will be much easier for you to understand the whole sentence. Now let’s try some sentences.
1. If so, you might already understand why UNESCO is fighting to preserve sites of cultural and natural importance to mankind.
2. Every day, thousands of tourists climbing up the narrow stone steps are wearing down these ancient buildings and the long-term consequences could lead to irreparable destruction of the internal structure.
