IV. Teaching procedures
Step 1 Lead-in
1. T asks Ss to read the quotation from Bill Gates.
T: Open your book at page 43. Let’s have a look at the picture on this page. What can you see on it
T: Yes. A handsome young man is enjoying VR and a robot is standing on the beach. Now let’s go through Bill Gates’s words under the title “Living with technology”. It reads “The advance of technology is based on making it fit in so that you don’t really even notice it, so it’s part of everyday life”. What does it mean
T: Right. What Gates says is about the relationship between technology and life. He emphasizes that technology has become an indispensable part of our life.
2. T asks Ss to watch a video carefully and fill in the blanks.
3. T asks Ss to watch the video again and answer the three questions on page 43.

Step 2 Reading for the structure
T asks Ss to get the main idea of each paragraph.
T: What do you know about artificial intelligence How is the author likely to organize the information on artificial intelligence Please read through the whole article and complete the chart on page 46.
T: Have you got another way to conclude each paragraph I have got a more concise way to express them. Let’s complete the following chart with some words or phrases to conclude each paragraph.
【设计意图:通过完成练习A1帮助学生整体把握课文结构,培养学生快速阅读以获取主干信息的能力,也为掌握本单元的学习策略(理解说明文的文章结构)埋下伏笔。此处用了两种总结方式,第一种是完整句子,总结细致一点。第二种是短语,总结更为抽象。】
Step 3 Reading for the detailed information
T asks Ss to read the article again and answer some questions.
T: Now you have got the general idea of the article. Please go through the questions in A2.

Step 4 Further reading
T asks Ss to discuss the questions in A3.
T: We have read through the whole article and many ideas may appear in our mind. Certainly there are some arguments, some of which have been listed in A3.

V. Homework
Write a summary of the article.
