I. Learning objectives
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
1. collect and sort the materials needed in making a poster about their chosen painter;
2. know how to make an appealing poster about a well-known painter;
3. cooperate better with group members and present the poster of group work;
4. evaluate and comment on each other’s poster.
II. Key competence focus
Collect relevant and reliable materials and sort them according to the given sample.
III. Predicted areas of difficulty
1. Design an informative and eye-catching poster.
2. Give an oral presentation.
IV. Teaching procedures
Step 1 Lead-in
T shows several famous paintings and asks Ss to brainstorm some well-known painters and their
works by asking the following questions.
Who is your favourite painter
What are his or her famous works
What else do you know about him or her

Step 2 Deciding on the painter to research
1. T asks Ss to have a discussion and choose a painter to research.
2. T asks Ss to have a discussion and decide what topics they want to contain in their
poster.

Step 3 Learning more about poster design
1. T asks Ss to reflect on their precious experience of poster design.
What adjectives would you like to use to describe a poster that attracts your attention
What makes your poster successful
What aspect(s) do you need to improve And how
2. T asks the Ss to read the sample in Part C and answer the following three questions.
When was Xu Beihong born
Where was Xu Beihong born
What are his famous works
3. T guides the Ss to think about how to make a better poster.
Tip 1: Select the most important information and make the language concise.
Tip 2: Combine selected texts with typical pictures of the painter and his or her works.
Tip 3: Display the content with a well-designed layout.
【设计意图:学生在之前的学习中已经制作过海报了,他们有了相关的体验,教师引导学生
回顾反思之前做海报的经历,总结经验及教训,并学习教材上的海报范例,为制作高质量的
海报打下基础。】
Step 4 Task division
T asks Ss to discuss in groups to think about all the work that needs to be done and how to
divide the work properly among the group members. The tasks include
Collect materials (pictures and texts).
Organize the information according to different topics
Design a poster
Polish the poster
Make a presentation
【设计意图:这一步骤由各小组讨论完成,商议组员如何分工合作,将一项比较大的项目分
解成更具操作性的小任务,提高组员的积极性和参与度。需要说明的是,Project 这堂课需
要学生走出课堂,学以致用,迁移创新,所以本课要完成的步骤分成两个阶段,到
Step 4 为止属于第一阶段。之后学生利用课后时间合作完成任务,制作出他们的海报。】
Step 5 Presentation and assessment
1. T asks each group to display their poster on the blackboard and choose one member to present
the poster orally. When displaying the poster, they should pay attention to the following points:
Speak clearly and confidently.
Make eye contact with the audience.
Keep your facial expressions relaxed and friendly.
Talk at a proper speed and pause when it is necessary to give your audience time to think about
what you have said.
2. T asks Ss to assess other groups’ work and give points according to every team’s performance
(10 points in total). They can make comments and give some suggestions.
【设计意图:这是 Project 的第二阶段——在课堂上展示海报(课下准备好, 课上展示)。通
过小组展示和相互评价以及给出建议,让学生参与课堂评价,实现课堂评价多样化,提高学
生的合作能力与批判性思维,从而更好地达成本堂课的教学目标。另外学生也能发现自己在
某些方面的不足,以便获得提升,同时这也有助于学生表达能力、胆量、表现力和自信心的
增强。】
V. Homework
1. Make improvements to the poster of your group according to your classmates’ comments and
suggestions.
2. Put your group’s poster on the classroom wall and appreciate the posters of other groups.
