As I’ve grown older, my connection to nature has become stronger. Recently, I was fortunate to spend a good part of a week immersed in the wilderness, following the teachings of my father from my childhood. Ever since I was 10, my sister, father, and I would load up his canoe (独木舟) with supplies and venture into the heart of Algonquin Park.
There were years when I ignored the call of Algonquin, caught up in the busyness of life — graduate school, and raising young children. It all felt overwhelming. But as time passed, my children grew older, and the call of Algonquin grew louder. With the support of my family, I finally heeded that call again, and started planning to take part in one of our family trips there.
My family’s expertise in the outdoors has been invaluable for such trips. My sister, a teacher, carefully plans our trips while my dad, a skilled outdoors man, effortlessly handles tasks like setting up camp and preparing meals. And my husband is really strong and good at moving things around.
But, as the trip got closer, my husband suddenly hurt his leg. And suddenly, I was faced with managing the first part of the trip as the only adult. Could I drive my daughters, alone, to Algonquin’s remote north boundary to meet my dad and stepmom Could I steer the canoe Could I carry the canoe
I had driven across Canada, alone, in my twenties, well before Google Maps. I was pretty sure I could steer if we kept to smaller lakes that were less likely to become windswept. But I feared carrying a canoe. Plus, lifting it onto my shoulders seemed impossible for someone of my strength.
But Algonquin was calling me. I channeled the fearless independence of my younger self and called Dad. “If we shorten the route and I find a lightweight canoe, the girls and I are coming,” I told him.
With guidance from YouTube and my sister, I mastered the technique of lifting the canoe onto my shoulders and on the day, I unloaded it without a hitch.
The trip was serene. I was reunited with the beauty of Algonquin — the majestic red pines, serene lakes, and the sense of peace that comes with being in the wilderness. This journey felt like a pilgrimage (朝圣), reconnecting me with my adventurous younger self who isn’t extinct, just out of practice.
24. What contributed to my taking part in a family trip again
A. Ignorance of the call of Algonquin.
B. Confidence in family and support from them.
C. My children getting older and louder.
D. Being caught up in the busyness of life.
25. Which of the following was the author confident of
A. Managing the first part of the trip. B. Carrying the canoe by herself.
C. Steering canoe in small and calm lakes. D. Lifting the canoe onto her shoulders.
26. What kind of person can we learn about the author
A. Independent and humorous. B. Pessimistic and unmotivated.
C. Ambitious and self-confident. D. Nature-loving and adventurous.
27. What message is mainly conveyed in the text
A. It’s never too late for a woman to take a risk.
B. Your family is there for you whatever happens.
C. You should find and stick to what you are good at.
D. Reunion with nature brings back one’s real self.
C
When people take with them their own expectations about tipping as they travel around the world, it generates no small amount of confusion. Norwegians, who come from a culture where wages are high and tips are low, could burn through Las Vegas leaving a trail of outrage with their tiny offerings. Meanwhile, high-tipping Americans might offend everyone in Tokyo because good service in Japan is a matter of honour, as in: “How dare you suggest I be rewarded for handing you a plate of sashimi without dropping it in your lap ”
We’re all in an embarrassed mess because there’s no consistent logic to any of this. None!
Tipping, as we know it, started in Tudor England when noblemen visited each other’s country homes and gave extra money to the servants as a thank-you for helping them with their clothing. Hundreds of years later, the tradition has become totally random. A recent study found that people are twice as likely to tip a grocery delivery person than a grocery store clerk, and roughly twice as likely to tip a waiter than a fast-food restaurant worker. Why is that A paid job is a paid job, right The grocery deliverer is paid to deliver and the grocery clerk is paid to clerk. So tipping one and not the other only makes sense in terms of what has become customary.
No one expects a tip in much of Southeast Asia or Australia, beyond saying “keep the change.” Compare that to the United States, where restaurant tips of up to 25 percent are now expected for very good service; in Canada, it’s 15 to 20 percent. Sometimes, that too can feel tense. “Even when the server tells you about it up front, it’s awkward,” one friend who encountered this custom said. “Do you tip more if they were really good What if they weren’t good ”
It’s enough to make your head hurt — but will we soon have to worry about tipping with bitcoin I don’t even understand the notion of cryptocurrency (数字加密货币), much less how to use the new tipping apps that are popping up around it. Maybe that’s how people used to feel about money itself, back when they traded goods and services with shells and weapons and rice. Back when there was no tipping.
28. The first paragraph is intended to ______ .
A. emphasize the universal importance of tipping
B. argue that tipping customs are confusing in certain cultures
C. illustrate the global variations in tipping practices
D. describe the economic impact of tipping on different countries
29. By origin, a tip was ______ .
A. a customary part of grocery delivery
B. an expected payment for essential services
C. a gesture of gratitude from the upper class
D. a modern concept in cryptocurrency transactions
30. What can be learned about Americans’ tipping practices from the passage
A. Americans give fatter tips in restaurants than elsewhere.
B. Americans are used to give tips wherever they go.
C. Americans are generally unwilling but forced to give a tip.
D. Americans mainly tip those who provide very good service.
31. The author mention bitcoin when talking about tipping in order to ______ .
A. argue that traditional tipping methods are outdated
B. emphasize that digital payments have simplified the tipping process
C. criticize the idea of using virtual currency for everyday purchase
D. suggest that cryptocurrency may complicate tipping customs

Artificial intelligence-powered medical treatment options are on the rise and have the potential to improve diagnostic (诊断的) accuracy, but a new study led by University of Arizona Health Sciences researchers found that about 52% of participants would choose a human doctor rather than AI for diagnosis and treatment.
“While many patients appear resistant to the use of AI, accuracy of information, encouragement and a listening patient experience may help increase acceptance,” Marvin Slepian, who led the research, said. “To ensure that the benefits of AI are secured in clinical practice, future research on best methods of physician incorporation and patient decision making is required.”
In this study, participants were placed into settings as mock (模拟的) patients and asked whether and under what circumstances they would prefer to have an AI system or a physical doctor for diagnosis and treatment.
In the first phase, researchers conducted structured interviews with actual patients, testing their reactions to current and future AI technologies. In the second phase, researchers surveyed 2,472 participants across diverse ethnic, racial and socioeconomic groups using a blinded, randomized survey.
Overall, participants were almost evenly split, with more than 52% choosing human doctors as a preference and about 47% choosing an AI diagnostic method. If study participants were informed that their primary care physician felt AI was superior, the acceptance of AI by study participants on re-questioning increased. This signaled the significance of the human physician in guiding a patient’s decision.
Disease severity did not affect participants’ trust in pared to white participants, black participants selected AI less often and Native Americans selected it more often. Older participants were less likely to choose AI, as were those who self-identified as politically conservative. These findings suggest that differing groups will need specific sensitivity and attention as to informing them about the value and usefulness of AI to enhance diagnoses.
“I really feel this study has the importance for national reach. It will guide many future studies and clinical transitional decisions even now,” Slepian said. “The onus will be on physicians and others in health care to ensure that information in AI systems is accurate, and to continue to maintain and enhance the accuracy of AI systems as they play an increasing role in the future of health care.”
32. What can we infer about AI treatment from Paragraph 2
A. Further clinical research is required.
B. Its benefits remain to be confirmed.
C. It can ensure a good listening patient experience.
D. Physician involvement will increase patients’ acceptance.
33. What may affect participants’ preference for AI treatment according to the research
A. Their personal backgrounds. B. The questions they were asked.
C. The access to the physicians. D. Their sensitivity to AI’s value.
34. What does the underlined word “onus” in the last paragraph probably mean
A. Attempt. B. Opportunity. C. Impression. D. Responsibility.
35. Which would be the best title for this passage
A. Bridging the Gap: Human Doctors and AI
B. The Trust in AI: A Split Among Patients
C. An Important Study: The Future of AI Systems
D. Improving Diagnostic Accuracy: The Role of AI

I was eight years old when my family moved from Towoomba to England in 1950. My mother was suffering from a rare disease and had to take treatment in London. The day before we boarded the ship, Father sent his five-year-old red heeler (Australian cattle dog), Spider, who was loved by us all, to his friend Sandy, as Sandy was to be his guardian while we were overseas. We didn’t know how long my mother’s treatment would take or how long we would be away.
Six weeks later, an air letter arrived from Sandy, giving my father the news that Spider had run away just two weeks after we had sailed. I will always remember my father’s face as he read this news. My mother and I tried to comfort him, knowing in our hearts how useless this was.
Sandy had advertised constantly on the media. Despite many “sightings”, the dog was never found. It seemed Spider just kept running and searching for us. My father worried he would be shot or dead from starvation. But our family thought that Father held a secret hope that Spider was still alive.
We sailed back to Australia two years later and my father immediately began his own search for Spider. He repeated calls to the people who had said they had seen his dog, but it turned out to be clueless.
One cold winter’s Saturday morning, eight months after our return, my father had a call from Gin Gin, 375 kilometers from Toowoomba. An elderly lady living on her own was putting food out “for a very old yellow dog”. This had been going on for a few weeks. Immediately we set off.
Five and a half hours later, we found the old house beside the bush (灌木丛). Sadly, the lady told my father that the dog hadn’t been around for a few days. My father had an upset look in his eyes. He put two fingers to his mouth and did his special whistle for Spider.

Suddenly there was a sound in the bush. My heart leaped into my throat as we all turned towards the noise. Out stumbled Spider, his body battered and his fur matted with dirt and twigs. But his eyes were fixed on my father, filled with a mixture of exhaustion and sheer joy. Father rushed over and scooped him up into his arms, cradling him gently as if he were the most precious thing in the world. Spider's tail managed a feeble wag, and he licked my father's hand weakly. We were all in tears, amazed and overjoyed at this miraculous reunion.
Once home we gently cleaned him up. We took our time, carefully washing away the grime of his long journey. As we worked, Spider seemed to relax, as if he knew he was finally safe. We gave him a warm, soft bed and a bowl of fresh water and food. Over the next few days, he slowly regained his strength and his old spirit. He would follow us from room to room, never wanting to be far from our sides. His return was a reminder of the incredible bond we shared, a bond that had withstood time and distance. We knew then that Spider was more than just a pet; he was a beloved member of our family, and we would never let him go again.

M: (20)Why is a seven-year-old musician named Alma Deutscher from Britain regarded as “Mini Mozart” Most children of her age would not be able to sit through an opera. (17)But Alma wrote her own sonata at the age of six. And she composed her first opera The Sweeper of Dreams this year. The English National Opera thought it was great work! Alma said, “The music comes to me when I’m relaxing. I like thinking about fairies a lot, princesses, and beautiful dresses.” She likes to sit on a swing in her garden and compose there.(18) She also keeps a tape recorder by her bed for when inspiration strikes. According to this talented young musician, the idea for The Sweeper of Dreams came from a dream. But not only is Alma good at writing music, she is also a skilled violinist and pianist as well. And she always works hard. Now, Alma has become famous, and many people like to compare her to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. (19)“I don’t mind if I am famous or not,” she says, “I like Mozart, but I’m not trying to become him. I’m going to be like Alma, not Mozart.”

根据文章第一段内容“When people take with them their own expectations about tipping as they travel around the world, it generates no small amount of confusion. Norwegians, who come from a culture where wages are high and tips are low, could burn through Las Vegas leaving a trail of outrage with their tiny offerings. Meanwhile, high-tipping Americans might offend everyone in Tokyo because good service in Japan is a matter of honour, as in: “How dare you suggest I be rewarded for handing you a plate of sashimi without dropping it in your lap ”(当人们带着自己对小费的期望环游世界时,这会产生不小的困惑。
根据文章第三段“Tipping, as we know it, started in Tudor England when noblemen visited each other’s country homes and gave extra money to the servants as a thank-you for helping them with their clothing.(我们所知道的小费制度起源于都铎王朝时期的英格兰,当时贵族们互相拜访乡间宅邸,会给仆人一些额外的钱,以感谢他们帮忙整理衣物。)”
根据文章第第一段“Meanwhile, high-tipping Americans might offend everyone in Tokyo because good service in Japan is a matter of honour, as in: “How dare you suggest I be rewarded for handing you a plate of sashimi without dropping it in your lap ”(与此同时,给高额小费的美国人可能会冒犯东京的所有人,因为在日本,良好的服务是一种荣誉,比如:“我递给你一盘生鱼片,而没有把它掉到你的腿上,你怎么敢建议我得到奖励?”)”和第四段“No one expects a tip in much of Southeast Asia or Australia, beyond saying “keep the change.” Compare that to the United States, where restaurant tips of up to 25 percent are now expected for very good service; in Canada, it’s 15 to 20 percent. (在东南亚或澳大利亚的大部分地区,除了说“不用找零钱了”之外,没有人指望得到小费。相比之下,在美国,现在餐厅的小费高达25%,因为服务非常好;在加拿大,这一比例为15%至20%)”可推断,美国人在餐馆给的小费比其他地方多。故选A。
根据文章最后一段“It’s enough to make your head hurt — but will we soon have to worry about tipping with bitcoin I don’t even understand the notion of cryptocurrency (数字加密货币), much less how to use the new tipping apps that are popping up around it.(这足以让人头疼——但我们很快就要担心用比特币付小费了吗?我甚至都不理解数字货币的概念,更不用说如何使用那些围绕它而出现的新款付小费应用程序了。)”可知,作者提到比特币是为了暗示数字货币可能会使小费习俗变得复杂。故选D。
D【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了一项患者对于在医疗诊断与治疗中使用人工智能态度的研究,通过实验的过程来说明新的科学研究发现及其启示。
答案 D A D B
根据第二段““While many patients appear resistant to the use of AI, accuracy of information, encouragement and a listening patient experience may help increase acceptance,” Marvin Slepian, who led the research, said. “To ensure that the benefits of AI are secured in clinical practice, future research on best methods of physician incorporation and patient decision making is required.”(“虽然许多患者似乎对使用人工智能有抵触情绪,但信息的准确性、鼓励和倾听的患者体验可能有助于提高接受度。” 该研究的负责人马文·斯皮安说,“为了确保人工智能的好处在临床实践中得到保障,未来需要对医生纳入和患者决策的最佳方法进行研究。”)”可知,医生的参与会增加患者对人工智能治疗的接受程度。故选D。
33.细节理解题。根据第四段“In the second phase, researchers surveyed 2,472 participants across diverse ethnic, racial and socioeconomic (社会经济学的) groups using a blinded, randomized survey. (在第二阶段,研究人员采用盲法随机调查,调查了不同民族、种族和社会经济群体的2472名参与者。)”可知,在第二阶段,研究的参与者来自不同背景。再根据第六段“Disease severity did not affect participants’ trust in pared to white participants, black participants selected AI less often and Native Americans selected it more often. Older participants were less likely to choose AI, as were those who self-identified as politically conservative. These findings suggest that differing groups will need specific sensitivity and attention as to informing them about the value and usefulness of AI to enhance diagnoses. 故选A。
根据最后一段“and to continue to maintain and enhance the accuracy of AI systems as they play an increasing role in the future of health care.
所以“The Trust in AI: A Split Among Patients(对人工智能的信任:患者之间的分歧)”作为文章标题最为合适。故选B。
