Step 1 Lead-in

T: China’s science and technology have developed rapidly in recent years. Can you share some tech news with the whole class I can give you some examples first.
·China launched its Chang’e-5 lunar probe. It made a soft landing on the Moon and brought samples back to Earth successfully.
·The new vaccine has been developed and put on the market. People can get vaccinated against COVID-19 now.
·Yuan Longping’s team successfully tested two-season sea rice in Wenchang Saline-alkali soil.

Step 2 Pair work
T asks Ss to discuss a plan for holding the Science Festival.
T: Now you are divided into a group of four to discuss a plan for holding the Science Festival, please use the following questions to help you:

A possible answer:
Theme: Materials Physics
Materials physics is closely related to our daily life. Think about smartphone touchscreens and the fibre optics used in telecommunications. In fact, we use these every day, and they were made real thanks to breakthroughs in materials physics.
·If you are going to invite a person to give a lecture, what kind of person is he or she What is a good topic of the lecture
A possible answer:
lecturer: famous, popular, successful, humorous, innovative, professional, and knowledgeable
topic: interesting and popular
·By these standards, choose a lecturer and a proper topic of the lecture.

Topic: chemically strengthened glass, which is used as a cover for many portable devices

Students can try to make their own materials by using the raw materials and different equipment provided in our laboratories.

Step 3 Writing
1. Planning your writing
(1) Learning about the text type
T asks the students to answer the following question:
What should include in a detailed proposal

What: something participants will do
Why: the aim of the activity
How: the way the activity will be arranged
(2) Learning about the structure
T guides the students to answer the following questions:
·What is the structure of your plan

·What events can be organized
A possible answer:
A lecture, experiments and Science Fair.
(3) Learning about the language
a. T asks Ss to write the theme
Tip: In order to attract the readers, we can use rhetorical questions at the beginning of the passage.
b. T asks Ss to write the events

2. Finishing your writing
T: Now please finish your writing, pay attention to the content, the structure and the language of your writing. You can also use your ideas from part C and the information in parts A and B to help you.
3. Checking your writing
(1) Self-review
a. T leads Ss to revise their own writing in terms of the six aspects:

b. T leads Ss to revise their own writing considering the following questions:

T asks Ss to exchange their writings and do some peer review considering the following questions:
·What does your partner think of the theme and events you suggest
·Which sentences does your partner appreciate most
