What Are Clouds
A Cloud is made of water drops or ice crystals floating (漂浮) in the sky. There are many kinds of cloud. Clouds are of great importance to Earth’s weather.
The sky can be full of water. But most of the time you can’t see the water. The drops of water are too small to see. They have turned into a gas called water vapor. As the water vapor goes higher in the sky, the air goes cooler. The cooler air causes the water droplets (微滴) to start to stick to things such as bits of dust, ice or sea salt.
Clouds get their names in two ways. One way is by where they are found in the sky. Some clouds are high up in the sky. Low clouds form closer to Earth’s surface. In fact, low clouds can even touch the ground. These clouds are called fog. Middle clouds are found between low and high clouds.
Another way clouds are named is by their shape. Cirrus clouds (卷云) are high clouds. They look like feathers. Cumulus clouds are middle clouds. These clouds look like giant cotton balls in the sky. Stratus clouds are low clouds. They cover the sky like bed sheets.
Most of the water in clouds is in very small droplets. The droplets are so light that they float in the air. Sometimes those droplets join with other droplets. Then they turn into larger drops. When that happens, gravity (重力) causes them to fall the Earth. We call the falling water drops “rain”. When the air is colder, the water may form snowflakes instead. Freezing rain, sleet or even hail can fall from clouds.
Clouds are important for many reasons. Rain and snow are two of those reasons. At night, clouds reflect heat and keep the ground warmer. During the day, clouds make shade that can keep us cooler. Studying clouds helps people have a better understanding of Earth’s weather. People use satellites in space to study clouds.

Four kinds of friends
I once believed that a friend is a friend “all the way”. Now I have changed my ideas about friendships.
Friends of convenience(便利). They can be the people who live next door or the mothers of our children’s closest friends. They will help us when we need it. They will look after our cats when we go on holiday. But we don’t ever get too close or tell too much. We keep our public face and emotional(情感的) distance, which means that we’ll talk about being overweight but not about being happy or sad. However, people still feel these friendships valuable(珍贵的) to them.
Special-interest friends. These friendships aren’t deeply personal or emotional. Their value lies in some shared interest, so we may have an office friend, a tennis friend, or even a shopping friend.
Historical Friends. We all have a friend who knew us well when…, maybe we were back in the second grade of primary school, when our family lived in that two-room flat downtown. He or she was the first, the only friend we told our secrets to.
The years have gone by, and we have gone different ways. We have little in common(共同)now, but we are still a personal part of each other’s past. We know how we looked before our teeth were straightened, and our getting together helps us remember an earlier part of ourselves, which is important and never lost.
Cross-generational(代) friends. These are friendships that from across generations. I have in my own life a precious(珍贵的) friend, a woman of 65, who is wise, who listens well, and who represents(代表) not only an ideal mother to me but also the person I’d like to be when I grow up.
Best friends, I believe, totally love, support and trust each other.
11 of friends Descriptions of friends
Friends of convenience They can be the 12 or the mothers of our children’s closest friends. They can help us when we are in 13 . Though we don’t talk about emotional topics, this doesn’t mean that there isn’t any value to be found in these friends.
Special-interest friends We usually 14 some interests with our special-interest friends, so we may have an office friend, a tennis friend, or even a shopping friend.
15 friends This kind of friendship was usually formed when we were 16 . Although we don’t have 17 in common now, we are still a personal part of each other’s past. Our getting together reminds us of each other’s happy old days.
Cross-generational friends Cross-generational friends usually aren’t from the 18 generations. A friend like this may represent a(an) 19 mother or the person I’d like to be when I grow up.
Conclusion: Best friends need to love, 20 and trust each other totally.

Imagine walking into a movie theater without being greeted by the smell of popcorn. It’s hard to believe, isn’t it For many people, popcorn goes hand in hand with movies. They can’t have one without the other. But how did this happen
The relationship (关系) between the two is younger than you may think. In the mid-1800s, popcorn was already a popular snack in the USA.Vendors (小贩) sold it on the streets. People, especially kids, loved this street food. In the early 1900s, vendors started to sell popcorn outside movie theaters.
However, theater owners were against popcorn. They believed it would make the experience of watching a movie less enjoyable. Eating it would make too much noise during the silent movies.
About 20 years later, when movies added sounds, the eating noise problem went away. More and more people went to the movies. Some of them even secretly took popcorn into the theaters. Later, more movie theaters opened. People were allowed (允许) to eat popcorn in some of the theaters while they were watching movies.
In the 1930s, the theater owners realized that people didn’t need to buy popcorn from street vendors. Because popcorn was easy to make, they could make and sell it on their own. They did that and the smell of popcorn drew more people to their theaters. The owners made a lot of money, and people enjoyed themselves at the movies.
Today, popcorn is still an important part of the movie-going experience. Roles, a man who once ate three bags of popcorn, said, “People come to theaters sometimes just for the popcorn. They don’t even care what is playing!”

Some people would like to have a trip around the world with their family or friends during the holiday. These years are not the right time to take a trip to far places because of COVID-19. So online tourism(网络旅游)comes out.
With the help of mobile phones, computers and some apps like Kuaishou and Douyin, people don’t need to go out to enjoy great places. They can “visit” museums and enjoy some places they always dream of visiting at home. Now, more and more people like a trip online.
Many great museums in China like the National Museum also provide(提供)online trips. Visitors can enjoy plenty of great things in the museums online. Guides in the museums show visitors around and they can also ask the guides questions in real time online. These trips make people know about museums and the things in them better.
Now, there are 5G networks(网络)on the north side of Qomolangma(珠穆朗玛峰). Qomolangma is very high, so not everyone can reach the top. Now some people show the beauty of the mountain online and people can enjoy it at home.
What will online tourism be like after COVID-19 Will people just lose interest in it Well, I think it will develop(发展)very well, because if someone wants to go somewhere, he or she can get a taste of the place online first.

Recently, researchers have found that dolphins know their own names much like people. Dolphins talk to one another with whistles (口哨) and calls. Scientists have known that the animals also use unusual whistles to name each other. They had thought that dolphins only heard each other’s voices. However, the scientists didn’t know that dolphins listen for their names too.
To test this idea, the researchers caught 14 dolphins and recorded their name calls. The scientists then copied each dolphin’s voice. When the changed recordings were played, the dolphins replied strongly to the names of their families and group members. They didn’t care about the names of dolphins they did not know.
Dolphins live in large groups that grow and change. Each dolphin’s unusual whistle helps it find a friend or a family member easily, or call for help. Understanding their calls need learning. Most animals don’t have this skill except (除了) humans, elephants and bats.
Elephants, for example, communicate (交流) with sound. Their sounds can be heard by other elephants miles away. Dolphins, too, communicate with each other like this. Elephants also communicate by moving their head, feet and trunk. In much the same way, dolphins communicate by their movements. Touching each other is a way for dolphins to express friendship. Elephants also communicate by their great sense of smell. They can know other elephants by the smells they have in a short time.
Why do dolphins and elephants share the gift of communication Scientists think it may be because they are social and smart animals. Both have strong family relationship (关系). Now, scientists want to know if they also have nicknames.

November is the final exam season, and everyone worries about it. As a student with some exam experiences, I want to share some tips that have helped me face final exams.
First, no waiting. I usually begin my review about two weeks earlier. Although the exam preparation starts about one week before the final exam. Don’t start it when we are worried by a lot of homework and tests. No one in the final weeks will have much memory of what they learnt in one week. I usually go through the notes I took to refresh(恢复)my memory. This helps me get the parts that I do not understand well and be better prepared for the practice exams that I do later. At least, it gives me a sense of control. This can be very important when you lose yourself.
Second, don’t stay up. A lot of people stay up late reviewing before the exam, but this is not healthy at all. Sleep is necessary to get back our situations. In fact, sleep can help strengthen(增强)our memories! I recommend this based on(依赖于)my personal experience—I always feel tired the next day if I go to sleep after 2 a.m. Without enough sleep, I can’t stay thinking. We don’t need to review instead of sleeping time.
Third, study with friends. This may not work for everyone, but I personally find it helpful. Having friends to study with not only provides us with chances to find out blind spots in our understanding but also allows us to have different ways, which are helpful in problem-solving. Also, studying with friends can keep me thinking, and talking to them can make me calm.
Topic How to face the final exams

As more and more people begin to read online, do we still need libraries now Reporter Ian Clark has the answer. “Libraries are still important-people still find it greater and easier to use them.”
According to him, not everyone has enough money to buy a smart phone, or a computer, and not everyone knows how to search the Internet, but libraries can offer people the same chance to get what they want to know about. And sometimes the information online is not correct. It will take you a lot of time to find what you really need. Libraries are more reliable(可靠的). Moreover, we still need a kind of place that a library provides. In a library, it’s easy to get lost in reading and working and it’s also less possible for us to stop to do something else.
So working in a library is quite helpful. We usually call this kind of place “third places”. There are some other “third places” like coffee shops. They can also make you relax completely. And you see no sellers or advertisements in the library. If you spend all your time on computers, your eyes will get tired. You should go to the library to find out the true, meaningful, and exact information about things. The world still needs libraries and it doesn’t matter if you don’t think so because most people do.
Libraries are still important
Reasons Libraries can offer the same chance 81 people to get what they want to know about.
It is a pity that sometimes the information on the Internet is 82 . You will spend a lot of time 83 what you really need.
We still need a kind of place that a library provides. In a library, it’s easy to lose 84 in reading and working and it’s also less 85 for us to stop to do something else.
It is quite helpful to 86 in the library. Libraries can also make you relax 87 . You see no sellers or 88 in the library.
Conclusion You should go to the library to find out the true, meaningful and exact 89 about things. The world still needs libraries because most people 90 so.
Think you’re smart
Do you think you are smart In fact, smart people have several things in common. These include being self-aware, high self-control and even a funny personality, Business Insider reported. You may think these traits (特点) come from personal experience or habits. But in fact, there is some scientific evidence behind them.
Being self-aware
Smart people are better able to admit (承认) when they don’t know something, according to a study by Cornell University in the US. The study found that the less smart you are, the more you overestimate (高估) yourself.
In one experiment, for example, students were asked to estimate their scores after taking a test. The students with lower scores overestimated the number of questions they’d gotten right. Meanwhile, those with higher scores underestimated how many questions they’d gotten right.
High self-control
Scientists have found a link between self-control and intelligence. In a 2009 study published in the journal Psychological Science, participants (参与者) had to choose between two rewards: a smaller amount of money that they could get at once or a larger amount of money that they could get later.
The results showed that people who chose to receive the larger amount of money at a later date scored higher on intelligence tests (智力测试). These people had more self-control.
Being really funny
Do smart people have a better sense of humor Scientists at the University of New Mexico may think so. One of their studies found that people who wrote funnier cartoon captions (解说词) scored higher on verbal (词语的) intelligence tests. Verbal intelligence is believed to be linked to the whole intelligence.
Other trails
Besides what we’ve talked above, scientists also find that smart people can easily feel what someone else is thinking or feeling and are more willing to listen to others’ suggestions. They are always curious about many things. So, why not have a check if you are smart
Test 91 smart you are

No matter (无论) where you are, you can see birds. Here are some birdwatching tips that make it possible to find and get a good look at more birds.
Keep ________
Birds are easily startled (受惊) by loud noises and will fly to cover. It is almost impossible to get close to a bird, because birds hear much better than human beings do. By making less noise, you can get much closer to a bird. A new bird watcher, when seeing an especially beautiful bird, will shout: “WOW! LOOK AT THAT! IT’S RIGHT OVER THERE!” However, the same message can be whispered. The result is that the bird is more likely to stay there for everyone to see, for a long look.
Avoid sudden movements
Just as loud noises startle birds, so does a sudden movement. Getting close to a bird means following it, moving slowly. A sudden movement, even when swinging your binoculars up to your eyes, can make a bird nervous enough to fly away.
Be ________
Some birds are always flying here and there, some are jumping up and down. It takes long time to wait for the birds to show themselves. A sparrow jumping around in a bush will finally move into a place where you can get a good look.
Try pishing
Sometimes, no matter how slowly and quietly you move, you just cannot get a good look at the bird. When this happens, bird watchers try a skill called pishing. A low whistled pish by blowing air through your closed teeth can attract (吸引) small birds to the watching place. Here’s how to pish: Clench (咬紧) your teeth, open your lips and whisper the word pish.
Just go outside and look around. Use these tips to see more birds and have fun!

You may have been in the situation that you knew someone had trouble but didn’t know what to say or do. There is one solution that is always correct. Listen, listen, and listen.
Listening is the greatest gift you can give someone —especially who is having a difficult time. Listening is more important than any words of comfort. Don’t provide with advice or stories of your own. You can choose to listen. It could be 5 or 10 minutes, an hour, or even all the night.
I have done this for many people in trouble. What I notice is that when they talk with no interruption(打断), they often think more and more clearly.
My mother had been ill in hospital for eight years when a volunteer encouraged her to talk. At first, she didn’t like it, and the volunteer continued encouraging and supporting her. She talked and talked, not at once, but in many different ways. Later, the doctor noticed she was not sad any longer, she smiled and smiled. Have you ever wondered what an American high school is really like That article will describe a typical high school and students.
A typical American high school has several large buildings and enough space for about 1500 students. Every student is given a locker. When students arrive at school, they go straight to their lockers to put away or get their text books and to hang up their outdoor clothes. As American textbooks are expensive, students would like to loan (租借). Students must pay back if they lose any of them.
American students have different types of school transport. They usually take a yellow school bus or walk to school if they live close enough. Sometimes their fathers or mothers drive them to school. When they turn 16 years of age, most will take a free driving class at school for one term. If students pass their state driver’s exam, they can begin driving themselves to school.
Each day, students take six or seven classes. They must take science, math, English and social studies. They can choose art, homemaking, fashion design and other classes. Some schools ask the students to take one or more of the following special classes: health education, physical education or foreign language studies. Students move to different classrooms for each subject. This is because each teacher has their own classroom to give the students time to hurry to their next class.
The regular school day usually ends early in the afternoon. After school, more than half of the students join in after-school activities, such as sports and clubs.

Confucius was a great thinker and teacher in the Spring and Auturmn Period of China. He was born in Qufu, capital of the state of Lu (part of Shandong). He acted as an official there. But he was perhaps a better thinker than he was an official and he ended up having to leave the state of Lu. In the next 13 years, he travelled around the other states, spreading his ideas. And he tried to teach people that peace was very important for a healthy society. However, it was not until the rule of Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty(156-87 BC) that his ideas were accepted by most people. In his last few years, he returned to Qufu, where he spent the rest of his life teaching. His teachings were recorded by his followers in a book called Lunyu.
Confucius’ teachings formed the base of Chinese thought. Confucius thought everyone should develop virtues(美德)and always do the right thing. Confucius' thought is considered to have been the necessity of Eastern thought.
To help people understand how to behave towards others, he taught five virtues accepted by all Chinese. They are ren (kindness, charity), yi (fairness), li (ceremony, tradition), zhi (knowledge), and xin (trust). Another virtue is xiao. Xiao is the duties a person has towards their parents. It means loving, respecting and looking after one’s parents in their old age. Xiao forms the base of a peaceful society. And “he” is the final goal according to his thought. It means peace between people in society.
Here’s one of Confucius’ famous sayings, “Do not do to others as you do not wish to be done to you.” Another saying of his is “In the company off two others, I can always find one worthy of being my teacher.”
It is clear that Confucius’ thought will continue to be a necessary part of Chinese culture. And it will continue to be of great use for the future of China.

One day, I nearly ended our friendship. I remember that day clearly(清楚地). The teacher gave us our results of a Chinese test. I did very badly. I felt so sad that I wouldn’t talk to anyone. At lunchtime, I even stayed in the classroom by myself. Suddenly, I heard a voice. It was Vanilla. “You look very unhappy,” she said. “What’s wrong ” I looked up at her, but said nothing. I knew Vanilla had a good mark in the test. I thought she was making fun of(取笑)me. I kept quiet, but Vanilla didn’t go away. She kept asking me questions, “Is it because of the exam Do you want me to show you the right answers ” I looked away from her. When I looked up again, Vanilla went. And my exam paper was also losing! I looked everywhere for my paper, but couldn’t find it.
In the afternoon, Vanilla came up to my desk and gave me my exam paper back. I looked at it and got a big surprise. The right answers are next to every one of my mistakes. My face turned red. Vanilla tries to help me all along. How nice she is! I wanted to hug(拥抱)her, but all I did was to hold her hands and say “Thank you”. That afternoon, Vanilla and I went home on foot together. Going to a friend’s house is very exciting. You may spend time with a friend and get to see where he lives. So remember to be polite.
When to arrive
The first thing to remember is that when a friend invites you over, you need to arrive on time. If your friend tells you to come “around 3: 00”, that means you can arrive a little late after 3: 00. But usually it is a good idea to arrive at the right time.
What to bring
Often, it is also nice to bring something to your friend’s house. This could be a box of chocolate for you two to share, or maybe a movie that you can watch together. You can also bring some flowers. A small present is a nice way to show your friend that it’s exciting for you to be at his house.
How to greet (问候)
When you visit your friend’s house, you may also meet his parents. You should tell them who you are and they may tell you their names. As a child, I went to visit my friend Paul. I called his parents by their first names John and Mary. But now I know it is more polite to call them Mr or Mrs Smith. This will show them more respect(尊敬)and then they may tell you to call them by their first names. Also, it’s a good way of showing respect to call them Madam or Sir.
It’s a cool thing to visit a friend’s house. Don’t forget to be polite to your friend and your friend’s parents, and you will be a good visitor.
