J. R. R. Tolkien was an English writer, best known as the author of some of the world’s most popular novels. The famous book, Letters from Father Christmas, is a collection of his letters to his four children at Christmas.
Every Christmas, the children would receive letters from Tolkien under the name of Father Christmas. The letters were beautifully illustrated and these pictures took him a long time to complete. The letters told wonderful stories about Father Christmas’s adventures at the North Pole. His helpers included the Polar Bear and his two cubs (幼崽). The letters did not hold the usual warnings to children that they might not receive their presents if they were not good. However, the letters changed as Tolkien’s children got older. He told his children to remember that many people were poor and hungry when they couldn’t get what they wanted.
