Step 1 Lead-in
T asks Ss to have a free talk about these questions:
Where do you usually take exercise
What sports can you do there

Step 2 Exploring the rules
1. T asks Ss to read a leaflet about a new sports centre, find the sentences that use the passive voice in the present continuous and present perfect tenses and fill in the table.
T shows more examples of the passive voice in the present continuous tense and asks Ss to explore the rules.
T shows Ss two pairs of sentences and asks Ss to pay attention to the passive voice in the present continuous tense.
The boss is interviewing all the applicants. (active voice)
All the applicants are being interviewed (by the boss). (passive voice)
Right now the scientists are developing the new products in the laboratory. (active voice)
Right now the new products are being developed in the laboratory (by the scientists). (passive voice)
T shows Ss the passive voice in the present continuous tense for phrasal verbs and asks Ss to explore the rules.
Make sure that all the victims are being taken good care of.
Nobody suspects that the plan is being carried out well.

4. Working out the rules
We use the passive voice in the present continuous tense to talk about something that is being done right now. The verb form is “is/are/am being done”.
We use the passive voice in the present perfect tense to talk about something that has been done. The verb form is “has/have been done”.

Step 3 Applying the rules
Exercise 1

T asks Ss to translate some sentences into English, using the passive voice in the present continuous and present perfect tenses.
Exercise 4
T asks Ss to complete the review of the sports centre written by Frances, with the correct forms of the verbs in the brackets.
